Chapter 42: A B Stats Upgrade

Scavratt sniffed again and froze.

His eyes sharpened.

"...There you are."

He turned toward the corner of the room, a crooked smile curling across his beast-like features.

He flexed his claws, metal groaning under his grip.

"Enough of this rat game. Time to end it."

With a burst of power, Scavratt shot forward, claws extended, tail whipping behind him.

His footsteps slammed into the ground, fast and vicious.

But just as he crossed into the shadowed path, Zain appeared.

Out of nowhere, a blur.

Quick Step.

Zain materialized directly in front of him, standing tall with eyes glowing faintly red.

His right hand ignited.

Fire Hand, glowing with heat.

Zain’s smirk was calm.

"Burning Fist."

BOOM!

The punch collided squarely with Scavratt’s face, flames erupting.

Scavratt’s body was launched backward, slamming into the concrete wall with a deafening CRASH.

He dropped to a crouch, smoke rising from his cheek, a scorched claw twitching as he slowly looked up.

"The hell...?" He snarled,"

His voice was shaken, more confused than hurt.

"How the fuck did you get this strong so fast?!"

Zain didn’t answer.

He just tilted his head slightly and smiled, the flames still dancing across his knuckles.

---

Zain’s smirk widened as the system interface appeared in front of him.

---

Zain rolled his shoulders.

His bones cracked in perfect sequence, muscle fibers coiling tighter with newly enhanced force.

His blood felt lighter. Sharper.

His senses expanded.

He could hear Scavratt’s breath stutter from across the room.

His balance? Flawless. His energy? Overflowing.

"Hah..." he exhaled slowly, a wicked grin forming.

"It worked."

Cheaper than I expected...

And more than enough.

He clenched his fist, watching flames gather across his knuckles with renewed heat.

Even if it’s just base stats, paired with my low-tier abilities and experience...

He looked up, eyes glowing under the dim light.

I don’t need to overpower Scavratt... I just need to control the fight.

Zain took a single step forward, smiling.

"You’re tough, Scavratt."

The rat beastman growled, wiping the scorched side of his face.

"Don’t start talking like you’ve won."

Zain raised his fists. "Not yet. But I’d get ready."

He cracked his neck and tilted his head.

"Because it’s time to cook the main dish."

Scavratt’s claws clenched. "You cocky little—!"

Zain interrupted with a smirk.

"Let’s see how you squeal when the heat’s turned up."

---

Zain vanished. Quick Step activated.

In a blink, he reappeared right in front of Scavratt, flame bursting from his hand.

"Flame Hand. Hard Grip."

He drove his fist straight for Scavratt’s head.

But the rat beastman’s Agility was higher—not just in speed, but in reflex.

Scavratt’s eyes twitched.

His body dropped low, spine flexing unnaturally.

He bent backward, balancing on his tail like a spring-loaded whip—using it as suspension.

And in the same move, he launched upward with a brutal dropkick.

THUD!

Zain crossed both arms and caught the blow, sliding back along the cracked floor.

He grunted, his boots digging into the stone.

The force rattled his bones, but—

He didn’t fall.

"Not bad," Zain muttered, shaking off the pressure.

"If I were still C-Rank, I’d be on the floor."

Scavratt landed like a beast, crouched on all fours, teeth bared.

He blinked once.

His slitted pupils narrowed.

He didn’t go down...?

What the hell did he do?

But the rat beastman didn’t speak. He ignored the logic, growling deeper instead.

Scavratt’s body twitched.

His claws stretched longer.

His breathing got louder.

Drool ran from his fangs as his rat side grew more feral.

With a screech, he lunged again.

Claws glowing with Rust Touch, he slashed at Zain with furious speed.

But Zain’s eyes glowed back—this time colder.

Night Eyes. Sharp Eye.

The world slowed.

Every movement, every twitch of muscle, every ripple in Scavratt’s moves became visible.

Zain stepped aside, letting one claw miss by inches.

He ducked under the next, then leaned back from a wide swipe aimed at his throat.

"Hmph."

He smirked as flames flickered in his palm.

"Rust Touch? Not gonna work if you can’t touch me and I’m not even steel."

Scavratt hissed.

His slashes came faster. More desperate.

But messier.

He no longer fought like a calculated beastman.

Now he moved like a rabid, cornered rat.

Zain exhaled and moved calmly, weaving through the attacks with growing confidence.

"Is that it? You’re just muscle and rage now?"

Scavratt’s pupils shrank. His tail slammed the ground in fury.

"ARRRRGHH— I’LL KILL YOUUU, DEEEEEMOOON!!"

His roar echoed through the shattered walls, shaking loose dust and debris.

With a violent lurch, his body twisted—fully embracing the rat beastman form.

His jaw extended, ears sharpened, fangs glistened with spit.

His hands were no longer hands, but hooked claws, twitching with bloodlust.

Zain stood still, eyes glowing faintly red as flames curled around his fists.

He exhaled slowly.

Then smirked.

"Perfect."

Scavratt sprinted, claws scraping the floor, tail whipping for momentum.

He rushed forward in an unpredictable zigzag—erratic, fast, and vicious.

But Zain didn’t flinch.

"Fighting a beast...is easier than human."

Quick Step.

Zain vanished just as Scavratt lunged—and reappeared behind him.

Hard Grip. Fire Hand.

He twisted mid-air, one hand igniting, the other tightening.

WHAM!

Zain slammed a burning fist straight into Scavratt’s back.

Flames exploded on contact.

Scavratt shrieked, spinning with fury, trying to slash blindly.

But Zain was already moving again.

One clean step to the left, dodging the claws, and—

He pulled the small pistol from his side coat.

With a smooth motion, he loaded a custom Blast Breath blood bullet into the chamber.

He aimed it directly at Scavratt’s snarling face—point-blank.

"Say cheese."

BOOM!

The shot lit the air with red fire, slamming into Scavratt’s skull.

But—

CRACK—

His head didn’t explode.

It snapped back hard, blood spraying, part of his cheek and upper eye seared off in the blast—but not destroyed.

Scavratt screamed.

"GGRRAAAHH!!"

The impact only made him angrier.

Steam poured from his mouth. His claws twitched. His body spasmed with rage.

"You... YOU SHOT ME IN THE HEAD!!"

Zain’s eyes narrowed.

He tanked it... no way he’s standing after that.

But he was.

Scavratt surged forward again, eyes wild, leaking blood, screaming like a demon-possessed animal.

Zain didn’t wait.

Quick Step.

He vanished before Scavratt’s claws could tear into him.

SHHHFT!

Reappearing behind a broken pillar, he immediately activated—

Fading in the Dark.

Quiet Steps.

His aura vanished. His breathing slowed.

The sound of his steps dropped to silence.

Zain gripped his blast breath blood bullet, loading it into his sniper rifle this time.

"One last shot," he whispered.

"One move to end it all."

Scavratt spun, snarling.

"WHERE ARE YOU?! COME OUT AND DIE!!"

He stomped across the ruin, sniffing, tail whipping, blood dripping from his face.

His claws gouged stone as he turned and searched.

"I’LL RIP YOU APART, DEMON!! I’LL EAT YOUR BONES!!"

Zain was already moving.

Silent.

Invisible.

Positioning himself behind Scavratt—careful, steady, calm.

His eyes focused.

His aim was perfect.

"Time to shut your damn mouth..."

He raised the gun.

"...permanently."
