Chapter 231 - Targaryen Torment

(Third Person POV)

[King's Landing]

"If anyone could go and reason with him, it is probably I." Alysanne told her husband as he was getting up and walking to the door, "I might need to go and speak to him, to make a deal if necessary."

"He's not accepting deals, Alysanne." Jaehearys turned around with a frown, "You know that."

Alysanne sighed, "We have to try something." She said, "We've sent men to die for the sake of aiding the Vale, but he's overrunning the region by the second. There is so many dead men that are piling up in his wake, all of this has to stop at one point!"

"You need to understand, Drakken cannot be reasoned with. Not now." Jaehaerys said seriously, "After what we tried to pull off, his woman was caught up in that and now he is more angry than we had hoped for. I have no idea what he has planned, but for him not to kill us for it, I don't like it one bit! Do not go near the Vale, nobody. If our Dragons are spotted, he will use the thing that destroyed Driftmark. Not only that, The Stormlands are placed in a perilous position, the Storm Beast has started a tempest...."

Alysanne looked down, "I am tired of people dying simply because he cannot control his anger." She said, "I must do something."

"If you go near him, he will kill you." Jaehaerys said, "As my torment, Aemon and Baelon's too. Right now, he is angry, he will destroy and destroy until he is satisfied. And we're trying, Alysanne, I have sent another detachment of 6,000 men to help the Vale. Some Houses from the Reach have volunteered but we still need to be careful!"

"What do we do?" Alysanne looked at him, "Just what do we do, Jaehaerys? By the second, the people will lose faith in us and they will start to think that House Drakkengard is the supreme power in the Realm. How long until they try to take us out of the equation and plant Drakken on the Throne?"

"Something tells me that Drakken cares not for thrones." Jaehaerys said, "He really does believe himself to be above Kings, on the level of true gods."

Alysanne looked to the side, "All of this...." She said, "We should have done a proper deal with him. One that would have ensured peace and prosperity between us. I don't understand why he's so bent on making us suffer, we already gave him two daughters."

"Perhaps that is all he wants." Jaehaerys said, "To take all that is ours. Our daughters, our dragons, our Realm. Slowly but surely, he will overcome us and plant us in the dirt."

"We need to do something, Jaehaerys." Alysanne said seriously, "We must."

"I will think of something." Jaehaerys said as he walked out the door, "I promise."

After closing the door, the King walked the hallway and made a corner. He then proceeded to make his way to his chambers slowly, pondering on what he could do in order to put an end to this conflict. He had tried allying himself with the Red Cult, but that failed terribly and now Drakken had unleashed his wrath on the Vale. The Cultists have made no contact with Jaehaerys regarding what had happened.

He knew that he had give the Red Priestess the promised payment but was unsure if it was right since the plan failed. He was going to come up with a solution regarding that situation and he needed to get Baelon involved with it.

After minutes of walking, Jaehaerys eventually made another corner and heard slight footsteps.

He stopped and turned around, seeing nothing but the shadows of the hallway and the moonlight reaching through the windows.

Jaehaerys frowned, "Hm..." He said as he reached for the dagger he carried in his casual clothing, "What....."

He took another step and immediately heard the footsteps. He then looked around to see that there was nobody in sight.

"Who goes there?" He said as he clutched the handle of the dagger, "I should have gotten one of the Kingsguard..."

He saw that on one of the windows, one of the curtains was fluttering due to the night breeze. He focused on it, squinting his eyes to see the faint outline of a figure.

"What....?" He said

As the curtain fluttered, the figure of a small girl was clearer.

Jaehaerys narrowed his eyes, "Who are you?"

The small girl who had white hair and purple eyes smiled, "Do you not recognize me, Father?" She said, her voice was ethereal, almost like it was not real, "It is i...."

Jaehaerys widened his eyes, recognizing the voice, "N-No..." He said as his legs wobbled, "D-Daenerys?" fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

The little girl smiled and took a step forward, "Yes~!" She said with a bight tone, "It has been so long, Father! You've grown wrinkles~!"

Jaehaerys simply stared at the image of his dead daughter, standing still with his hand on the dagger.

"Impossible....." He said as he began to sweat slightly, "Daenerys...."

The girl took another step, "I've missed you~! I've missed Mother~!" She said with a bright smile, "How have you all been? I do wonder what has happened in my absence...."

Jaehaerys let go of the handle of his dagger and his arms slumped down, his entire face gone pale, thinking of the grief and sorrow he had gone through all those years ago. His first daughter, the Princess Daenerys Targaryen, had died prior to the birth of Alyssa.

"Daenerys...." Jaehaerys said as he took a step forward, "I...."

"How are my brothers?" Daenerys asked, "Aemon, Baelon. Are they well? I wonder if they've grown...."

Jaehaerys reached for her, "T-They are....." He said, "They are.....all of them.....you've had so many siblings....."

"Daenerys...."

"Aemon...." Daella Targaryen said as she walked up to her husband, "Are you alright?"

Aemon was sitting on the couch, rubbing his hair, "No, Daella...." He said softly, "I....there is so much on my head...."

Daella sat next to him, "It is going to be okay...." She said as she placed her hand on his lap, "I know you have been rather stressed. But know that I am here for you, you have nothing to worry about."

"No matter how hard I try....." Aemon said, "I fail. I cannot do anything to keep my family safe.....we are all at the mercy of that Monster, that thing."

Daella nodded, "I understand." She said softly, "It is a terrifying thing, to be before someone like Drakken."

"You don't understand, Daella." Aemon said as he looked at her, "I am the Heir. The responsibility of our people is also mine, not just Father's. I am the rider of Caraxes, Prince Aemon Targaryen, and yet.....I am nothing but a little useless boy against Drakken!"

"Aemon...." Daella frowned sadly

"My younger brother, he is the rider of Balerion, the wielder of Dark Sister." Aemon said, "More recently, he has shown bravery that surpasses my own. He had no doubts and hesitation when it comes to Drakken, even if it is pointless.....Baelon, he doesn't care...he will raise his sword against him. But me? No.....I cannot....we've tried.....we've failed..."

"That is not true." She said, "Y-You....you are still brave...."

"Ever since the Sword Incident...." Aemon sighed, "I have felt less and less confident.....ever since Jocelyn and Aenys...I have felt nothing but a pit in my stomach."

"Aemon." Daella patted his cheek, "You don't have to feel this way. You're like this because you allow yourself. You don't want to let anyone in....but you can...you can let me in.....I am your wife.....I am with you till the end....you can count on me...."

Aemon looked at her, "I..." He said softly, "Daella.....you are my sister.....and my heart..."

"It can belong to Jocelyn..." Daella said softly, "But it can also belong to me....there is nothing wrong. I don't want to replace her.....I just want to make you feel better....I want you to make you forget your problems...."

"So....please let me..."
