Chapter 266: A bright new day

"Good morning, Ash," Ravi said as he entered the living room. His face was aglow and all that remained was for him to skip down the stairs.

"You are chirpy this early morning." Malik said as he raised the mug of coffee to his lips, "Your boyfriend makes good coffee."

"Good morning, Ravi." Asher greeted, smiling as Ravi kissed his head before he rushed back to the television.

"Hey! Ravi." Sage did not even bother to turn, his entire focus on the screen in front of him. There seemed to be some kind of action animation that was playing.

Yesterday had been so beautiful and the memory made Ravi smile even more. They had moved from the painting studio to a hot pond in Orwick and then back to Ravi’s bedroom.

This morning, he had felt Arlen kissing his forehead before he headed for work. They were still processing the serial killer and he knew that Arlen’s absence had been felt yesterday and the ABI still needed him in the prosecution of Lisa’s Ex.

He should still be in so much pain. Ravi smirked.

"Such malice, are you thinking about your little colleague?" Malik asked, his cane was right next to him.

Ravi had been ignoring Malik but then considering that the person did not know he was ignoring him, Ravi gave up. He entered the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee for him.

"Good coffee."

"So you are speaking to me again."

Ravi raised a brow, so he did know that Ravi was ignoring him.

"Where have you been the past few days?" Even since he had called Malik to help him with the killer’s punishment, he had not seen his next-door neighbor.

Malik turned his head in his direction, those empty green eyes gazing towards him, "Out. Did you tell me to get something and I forgot? You had sex the whole of yesterday, why are you still so prissy."

Ravi’s heart pounded, "Shhh!!" He then looked but the boys were too engrossed with the television to pay any attention to their conservation.

"And I am not being prissy, whatever that means." He sighed, "You left, you did not tell anyone where you were going and I could not reach you either."

"You could just have told Sage to get it."

"Damn it! Malik. It is not about the purple yam, I was worried."

The relaxed Malik tensed and frowned, his brows knitting, "Yes, I can feel it now but why, you know how strong I am."

Ravi thought back at the feeling he had, "I am not sure. I have a feeling that something bad might happen." He sat down on the kitchen table across from Malik, "Malik, you have to be careful."

Malik was quiet, "Can you pull down your shield?"

Ravi gritted his teeth, "I am being serious here."

"Same, I want to access that particular feeling of foreboding."

"I can send it to you. I don’t need to pull my shield down." He was already taking therapy sessions with Malik and the other already knew the worst of it, Ravi was not sure why he was being stubborn for stubborn stake.

He closed his eyes and sent the creepy foreboding that he had received two days ago.

"Just so you know. To an outsider, your conversation is as weird as fuck." Sage said, his head popping out of a dark purple dimensional gateway in front of the fridge. He opened the fridge and took out two tiger nut juice, "One more thing, I know we have chores to do this morning but if we don’t watch this movie now, they will spoil it for you on social media."

"Neither of you have social media and Ash has to be 18 to open an account."

"Good point."

Malik’s mind grew even more tense as he felt for the emotion that Ravi was exuded. His heart started beating faster and faster.

Anouk. He had an insistent feeling to contact him.

Malik frowned, there was nothing he hated that was controlled by someone or something.

"What is wrong?" Ravi noticed the frown that graced the beautiful features of the man in front of him.

"Nothing." Malik took a sip of tea. Ravi was the happiest that he had ever seen him, the emotions radiating off him were a far cry from when he had first Ravi.

"Malik?"

"What are we having for breakfast today? My eyes hurt."

"You are blind." Even though he said that Ravi still went outside to check what he could use for breakfast.

His lips titled into a smile, the ready-to-eat cabbage had already been harvested and kept in the bamboo basket on the veranda. The way the cabbage was stocked, it made him smile.

Four down, three, and then two on top. Even with his fruit pickings, Ash always starts with the largest number the basket can layer and then decreases each layer by one. He should probably take some cabbage to the office one of these days.

He looked across the building where Lana was surely studying or in her lab, concocting something that the public would very much appreciate if it could stay in her lab for as long as possible.

"Just separate the lean ones from the fatty ones. You can feel it."

"So you would let the boys watch a movie so early this morning when they can come and help. You are spoiling them too much."

Ravi rolled his eyes, "That would take you a minute to finish."

He was too glad that Ash was finding out things he loved and taking an interest in movies. Besides, the house was already swept and the cabbages harvested. Where was he spoiling him?

He needed to increase his allowance though. Cinema was an expensive hobby to keep up with.

He began to mix the dough and as he waited for it to rise, he began to mince the lean meat while rendering the diced fatty pork into crispy bits.

"Do you have the receipts to prove that you have paid me back?" As he worked, he and Malik soon fell into an easy conservation about the outstanding debts each one owed the other
