Chapter 43 - King of Myrrhaven! I

When everyone dismounted the beast, a servant stationed at the corner of the platform noticed the duke and ran towards him.

"Good morning, Duke. How may I help you?" he questioned in a submissive tone.

The Duke looked around without entertaining his question. "The palace is quite lively today," he mused as he saw people coming and going in a similar fashion.

Rex also admired the palace he was standing on, while Darius tucked at his shirt as he whispered, "You sure we should be here?"

While Arcane looked at all the beasts that were perched around their owners, like Arcane was on Rex's shoulder, sitting calmly.

Her mystical and strong presence turned a few heads to look at her, as if appreciating what needed to be appreciated.

Instead of the Duke, the butler stepped forward as he answered the servant's question. "Please arrange an audience with His Majesty," he replied in a calm tone.

The servant nodded hesitantly, but nevertheless followed their orders as he led them downstairs.

After walking for a few minutes, the servant showed them a luxurious room that wasn't very far from the Royal Hall where they would be meeting the king and asked them to wait until summoned.

After waiting for barely a few minutes, they were summoned to have an audience with the King.

Duke Asselin and Rex stood up while Darius, Arcane, and Scias were asked to stay behind, and bringing Arcane was of no issue as Duke Asselin reassured Rex, "You can bring along that beast, as it's a symbol of power and strength."

Rex nodded and followed along with the Duke, both of their beasts resting on their shoulders.

Normally, bringing in a beast wasn't allowed, but the Dukes of Myrrhaven were given special permission, and since Rex was with him, he too was allowed.

"I'll be the one doing all the talking in front of Majesty," Asselin asserted, glancing at Rex as he nodded in return.

After walking through the corridor, the person guiding them pushed open the Royal Hall's giant door.

Rex exhaled steadily and stepped in, the vibe becoming much more tense.

He saw the one ruling this kingdom sitting calmly on a throne, bright golden sunlight filtering through the small windows as it lit up the hallway dazzlingly.

Asselin and Rex walked with steady steps, as the King looked at them in a calm, welcoming gaze, while others in the court looked at them with varied gazes.

"Asselin, my friend." A carefree voice echoed in the Royal hallway, yet it carried undeniable authority.

as it was answered with equal respect. "Your Majesty," Asselin spoke and knelt down quickly, displaying his respect and obedience to the king.

Once knelt, his gaze moved toward Rex as he... did not kneel in the presence of the king!

Rex stood there in a dazed manner—at least pretended to, as if to show he was genuinely confused. For some reason, something within him said that if he knelt here, he wouldn't be able to rise...

After witnessing Rex's behavior, murmurs began to echo throughout the people, as the advisor and a minister sitting just below the king's throne stood up in defiance and shock.

"What is the meaning of this, Asselin? You bring someone here and he dares not kneel before the king? Are you planning a rebellion?" the minister yelled, looking at Asselin.

"Calm down, Frederick. He is just a kid," the same carefree voice echoed as it silenced all the murmurs and noises in the hall.

From the corner of his eyes, Rex barely glimpsed the man's visage sitting on the throne, because looking at him directly could escalate things even further.

The king had silky golden-white hair, as he wore a white suit that was more of an armor. Behind him, a white cape of fur covered him, giving him a majestic look, as his facial features looked sharp with a small, clean beard.

Asselin frowned at Rex while still in the kneeling position, as he was yet to be ordered to rise from the king. Looking at this, King Edmund gave a small nod, prompting Asselin to stand up.

"State your business, Duke Asselin, and it better be worth the commotion you've caused," the king rumbled, looking at Rex with a scrutinizing gaze.

Though he wasn't petty enough to hold a 10-year-old kid accountable for not kneeling in his presence, he was a king and still had to maintain his image, so he directed his attention to Duke and questioned him.

While Rex didn't even try to use Eye of Tamer, as that might cause even more problems.

"Your Majesty, I want to recommend this kid for the Verdant Abyss Forest as a special candidate," the Duke began, as he got straight to the point. The murmurs that had started to turn silent became lively once again.

Asselin had decided to praise Rex while building up his character in everyone's eyes. That way, he would be respected and rewarded handsomely, but seeing the atmosphere, the Duke decided to be blunt.

"Hmmm." The king hummed, eyebrows lifting in delight as he glanced at Rex, who met his gaze with a wry smile, not knowing what else to do in this situation.

"Tell me, what ability does our young rebel possess?" the king questioned in an amused tone, finding someone gifted was a one-in-a-million chance, and that too for them to be talented without any resources.

"I'm looking forward to this," he mumbled, tapping his finger on his regal throne.

The Duke smiled as he presented Rex like a trophy before the king.

"Your Majesty, this boy possesses a rare gift. he can appraise beasts and humans alike with perfect accuracy, instantly revealing their bloodlines.

A talent like his is priceless in any court or battlefield." He paused,

but before people could begin to talk, he continued, selling Rex, as anything that benefited their kingdom was a national matter.

"In a world ruled by strength and lineage, such power could change the fate of our kingdom.

And what if we add him to the Verdant Abyss Forest, which is teeming with the beasts?"

the Duke stated in a calm tone, like a true salesman selling Rex to His Majesty, his voice echoing throughout the court.

Why did the Duke do so? It was rather simple. the happier the king became, the better rewards or resources he got.

And who doesn't want resources that make them stronger?

Murmurs that were muffled before now came in full vigor, as everyone became excited, some looking at Rex with greed-filled eyes, as he was that sweet, rare candy their teeth were itching for.

"Interesting. This could very well make our kingdom prosper and thrive, making us the strongest," the king calculated instantly, as he too looked at Rex with possessive eyes.

One thing to note was—no humans or beasts, for that matter, could tell what being a bloodline possessed.

At most, even the oldies or appraisers who worked directly for the throne had their heads scratching on how to appraise the unknown and different types of beasts.

Their only way of appeasing a beast was to note down certain qualities like marks, colors, and habitat. Basically, everything was done through research.

Even the research papers and journals were kept inside the Royal Library, hidden from the common people.

There was simply no sure-shot method to tell if a beast was pureblooded or not. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

In simple terms, there are an unknown number of purebloods, while the people were only aware of some famous bloodlines.

That is also the reason why many people possessed similar kinds of purebloods. But with Rex, most of the beasts out there could turn out to be pureblood.

"Your Majesty, I think we should test him," the advisor, seated on the left, suggested, cutting through the murmurs, as everyone agreed with him.

"Certainly," the king affirmed and called out with a wave of his hand. "Come out, Dravion."
