Chapter 38: 038. Madman’s Knowledge_1

“He Dao, Night Country, Abandoned Capital, these places shouldn’t be from this world, right?”

“So they’re from a Foreign Domain?”

Lu Ban found this to be quite reasonable.

Just like his suona, if it originally existed in this world, it would’ve surely caused a disturbance and left behind records.

But in reality, there was no such description.

Through his research on the products from the Silent Department Store, Lu Ban was able to roughly identify a few Foreign Domains.

One is He Dao, which seemed to be composed of islands, with the sea being the main area, where pirates were rampant and monsters lurked within the sea fog.

Another is the Night Country, mostly situated within the Black Forest, with two organizations known as the Gray Tower and the Hei Tower wielding powers like magic and other extraordinary powers.

One is the Abandoned Capital, which seemed to be close to the level of modern civilization, with cars, trains, gangs, and of course, monsters and divine beings.

There’s also the Wasteland, descriptions of which are somewhat complex, including divine idols and modern tools, faith and science; since it wasn’t one of the three areas Lu Ban had to deal with this time, he didn’t study it in detail.

The sourc𝗲 of this content is freēwēbηovel.c૦m.

Another part was vaguely described, unclear which region it came from.

“Anyway, let’s start with a daily single draw and judge based on the knowledge obtained,” he said.

Lu Ban spent fifty Silence Points to obtain Madman’s Knowledge.

In his hand, a strangely shaped skull suddenly appeared.

It resembled a human, but the teeth and eye sockets were distinctly different; the entire head leaned more towards that of some rodent, sharp and elongated.

Within the skull burned a pale fire, this flame was not hot but rather cold. Touching it with a finger felt like moving through extremely cold water, making one’s teeth chatter.

“How do I use this?”

Holding the skull in his hand, Lu Ban didn’t feel horrified but was extremely puzzled.

“Grind it into powder and eat it? Soak with goji berries? Surely it’s not something you just microwave for three minutes and eat right away?”

He looked at the skull.

On the back of the bone, at the base of the skull, was a row of embossed golden letters.

[Crush to use].

“Crush it?”

Lu Ban exerted some force with his hand.

Crack—

The skull, which resembled both a rat and a human, turned to dust under the slightest force from Lu Ban, its pale flames turning to ash mist, seeping into his brain through Lu Ban’s nose, mouth, ears, and eyes.

Lu Ban leaned back in his chair.

Some knowledge, like a drill breaking through the earth’s surface, was forcibly stuffed into his brain, spreading between the folds of his cerebral cortex and stirring in the neurons of his hippocampus.

Countless whisperings rang in Lu Ban’s ears.

These whisperings came from different languages, uttered by people of varying ages, genders, and statuses, the majority of which Lu Ban couldn’t discern their origin.

He managed to catch only fragments of sentences.

“…They dug down and finally found the treasure, and the evil from ancient times…”

“…It’s all fake, all illusion, hahaha, I got it! Hahaha…”

“…The gang for the Abandoned Capital is like white blood cells to humans, do you get what I mean…”

“…Those flowers, they’re inside my body, wandering through every blood vessel, every muscle, growing, feeding on my life, and then, they’re born…”

“…Hey, buddy, when you see a fish in the desert, you know what I mean, right? Then you better run!”

Along with these whisperings, Lu Ban saw a grand, dark city with buildings closely packed together, witnessed a magnificent field of flowers, observed gang members in suits and sunglasses fighting in a damp and cold alley, envisioned whales singing joyfully above the desert, witnessed a dying beggar’s struggle, viewed the debauchery of high society, and saw the eyes that dwelled high above.

Eyes eyes eyes eyes eyes eyes eyes eyes…

Countless eyes, even denser than the starry sky, were suspended above Lu Ban’s head.

Lu Ban’s body trembled slightly as blood trickled from his eyes, nose, mouth corners, and ears. His joints became distorted to angles completely impossible for humans, and his whole body convulsed grotesquely and bizarrely for a full five minutes.

Suddenly, everything came to an abrupt stop.

The room was quiet as a grave—as if devoid of any living soul, not even the sound of breathing could be heard.

The cabinet door moved slowly, but it didn’t open.

The curtain fluttered, as though someone stood behind that plain cloth.

Scraping sounds emanated from under the bed for a moment before plunging back into silence.

Lu Ban’s body suddenly shook.

“Huh—”

He inhaled sharply and only then sat up.

Ignoring the now sticky blood on his face, Lu Ban’s first glance was at the familiar ceiling.

On that plain ceiling, there was nothing.

No.

As Lu Ban stared intently, an eye suddenly opened on the wall.

One, two, three eyes—in an instant, countless eyes opened on the ceiling, walls, even on the computer, desk, cabinet, curtains, and Lu Ban’s hands, looking around in all directions.

Eventually, all these eyes turned towards Lu Ban’s position.

Blood rushed from Lu Ban’s nose again, dripping onto his clothing and pants, soaking a large area.

He closed his eyes and when he reopened them, everything had returned to normal.

“…the clothes I just changed…”

He glanced at his blood-red clothes and jeans, silently got up, and opened the wardrobe.

In one corner of the wardrobe, some darkness seemed to cluster, but Lu Ban ignored it and took out a change of clothes, immediately stripped off his bloodied clothes and trousers, revealing his well-defined six-pack abs, and began to change.

After throwing the blood-stained clothes into the washing machine for cleaning, Lu Ban washed the blood off his face and returned to the computer.

His vision was still a bit blurry but would soon clear up.

No big deal.

“This is knowledge from the Abandoned Capital…”

Lu Ban opened a document and briefly summarized his recent gains.

“The cultural level of the Abandoned Capital is roughly equivalent to the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by a mix of Eastern and Western influences, and beyond the densely populated megacities lies desert and wasteland.”

“The wealth disparity in the city is significant; the poor dwell in cramped old districts, while the central city areas are exclusive to the rich.”

“Gangs hold an important position in the Abandoned Capital; they even become the judicial spokespersons in certain regions.”

“The desert outside the city hides a myriad of monsters, including flowers that wriggle and spread contagion, and whales that can fly, among others.”

“There are still riches in the desert, luring people to venture out and explore.”

“And… the ruler of the entire city, the owner of those eyes, might be a Divine Being equivalent to the existence that resides on Aldebaran.”

“Now that I’ve acquired knowledge of the Abandoned Capital, this place seems not so dangerous after all…”

Lu Ban seemed to have made a decision.
