Chapter 31 - 31: Soul Raven
Chapter 31: Soul Raven
[Power evolving...]
[Congratulations, your Beast's Tongue (E-rank) has evolved into Beast's Eyes (D-rank)]
[Beast's Eyes: You can communicate with animals. You can see into the vision of an animal companion of your choice.]
Rank: D (0/500 EXP)
[Remaining Experience: 20]
Veins are popping up around Blaze's eyes. The feeling is similar to first acquiring this power, a satisfied sensation goes inside his head.
It comes quickly and goes quickly, leaving Blaze wanting more. The veins around his eyes calm down and return to normal.
"Share vision, huh? It's actually useful. If only the egg was already hatched." Blaze mumbles.

"But maybe I can figure out a way around it."
The Lantern of the Damned appears in Blaze's hand. Its Hidden Power Soul Slave can create a half-physical body for one of his trapped souls, enabling it to interact with the real world.
Especially, he can create whatever body he wants for the soul.
"I wonder if I create an animal body for one of the souls, can I look into its vision via the Beast's Eyes..."
Blaze goes down to the dark basement of his house and equips the Tattered Cloak. His appearance changes to the Wraith once again.
"Now, which soul is suitable for the job?"
Blaze looks into the yellow light inside the Lantern. In there, Phuc is burning with agony. Alongside him are Jake, Veronica, and the three remaining members of the Nocturnal Animals.
All are suffering and screaming for Blaze's forgiveness.
The only exception is Isaac, the waterbender Awakened. He can see that Isaac is sitting down, his face fills with anguish and guilt, having no begging for his crimes at all.
He is just silently taking the punishment Blaze is giving.
"Interesting..."
Blaze remembers this guy. He was the one who immediately lost his will for fighting and begged for forgiveness.
Blaze pulls the soul of Isaac out of the Lantern and puts him on the floor.
The yellow fireball expands into a translucent body.
Isaac feels the burning stop and opens his eyes with surprise.
The first thing he sees after death is the shadow figure who killed him and his accomplices.
Isaac lets out a long sigh and lowers his head.
"Vengeful spirit. Please tell me, what do you need?"
Blaze smirks, the white crescent moon appears on the shadowy figure's face.
"You don't seem to be so enraged?"
"Why should I, spirit? It is my deserving punishment."
"Elaborate. I want to hear your side of the story. Or if you're not in the mood, I can look into your soul if you want."
Isaac's entire body shakes. He doesn't know what looking into one soul can mean, but he bets that it isn't good.
Isaac sits on his knee and starts speaking.
"I have done many bad things, vengeful spirit. Things that I know and you know are unforgivable sins. For it, I deserve to be punished.
I have no excuse for it. Only that I regretted everything."
The low, hoarse voice of the figure answers him: "You know that no amount of regret can change the past.
It can never change what those girls had gone through and the many sorrows the people related to them feel."
"I know, vengeful spirit.
Because of that, I do not dare to ask for any reduction to my sentence.
I am willing to be burnt for eternity more. To experience this unimaginable pain to repent for my sins."
Isaac's expression twists horribly, the light of his soul flickers just because of the thought of eternal damnation.
He is truly scared of the pain. But he accepts it.
"Interesting. But burning you won't make any changes to this wrathful, unfair world.
I am giving you a choice here. A choice to make up for your mistake by rescuing the people you have harmed and destroying the culprit.
I am not saying that you will be spared from your sentence. But maybe.
I'm saying just maybe, your soul may have a chance of redemption.
Do you accept this task?"
Isaac lowers his head to the floor. He does not even think for a second.
"Whatever it is, vengeful spirit. I accept it."
"Good...
You will be my eyes from now on. The eyes of the sky. The eyes that look for those who have sinned. My messenger of retribution.
Come forward, Isaac Everdeen.
You will now be reborn as my raven!"
Blaze holds up his palm, a raging yellow fire incinerates in his hand.
[Creating Soul Slave...]
[Please design the appearance of your Soul Slave]
Isaac's soul gets sucked inside the ball of flame.
"A raven of the dark. Birthed out of sin and regret. It is tasked with becoming my eyes of the sky. To act as the watcher and witness for my vengeance."
A pair of dark wings bursts out from the flame, spreading its feathers outward to the side.
A raven is formed from the yellow fire, its feathers as dark as the night with gleaming yellow light acting as its outline.
On top of its head is a weirdly huge eye. Two eyes reside on the side, and two more eyes in the back are blinking.
A five-eyed black raven is born.
The raven closes its wing and lowers its head. Isaac now has a physical body in the realm of the living.
"Master! I am your eyes from now on!"
"Good! Let's test it out."
Blaze closes his eyes, and at that moment, yellow color takes over the raven's irises.
A 360-degree field of view appears in Blaze's mind. He can see everything in the basement as clearly as day.
For the first time, Blaze sees himself in his Tattered Cloak from another point of view.
His appearance truly is otherworldly and has an unsettling vibe to it.
No wonder everyone freaks out when they see me.
Beast's Eyes does work with a soul in animal form.
Blaze opens his eyes again and the yellow colors leave the raven's irises.
"How did you feel?" Blaze says.
"It is a bizarre sensation, Master. I can almost feel you taking over my soul."
"Hmm. Alright. I will summon you when I need you. Return to the Lantern. You will not need to suffer for now."
"Thank you for your benevolence, Master!"
The raven turns into a fireball and flies into the Lantern again.
The Moonlight Karambit appears in Blaze's right hand while the Destruction Wand appears in his left hand. One close-range weapon and one long-range weapon.
The element of the Moonlight Karambit doesn't react to the Tattered Cloak at all. He can use both of them simultaneously, there's no conflicting elements between them at all.
"There's only the Tattered Mask left."
The weapons disappear into the Inventory, replacing them on Blaze's hand is an old white mask.
The mask only covers half the upper face of the wearer, stopping right below the eyes. Its edges are cracked and filled with questionable inky veins.
When Blaze turns it over, he discovers that the inside is filled with foreign symbols and scribbles of an unknown language.
But the most unsettling parts are the thin, black tendrils writhing on its surface, looking like they are ready to dig into the wearer's skin the moment it is worn.
The view causes Blaze to feel uneasy.
[Warning!]
[Warning!]
[Tattered Mask is a soul-bound item! Wearing it will immediately bind it to the user as its forever master!]
[Please consider carefully before equipping the Tattered Mask!]
Invisible sweat runs down the shadowy face of Blaze.
He has a bad feeling about this. It may be a one-way ticket to hell knows what if he wears this mask.
Better try it out.
