I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 41: A Bargain of Life
Chapter 41 - 41: A Bargain of Life
"Let's end this."
Blaze's voice echoes through the room. The black sphere of darkness disappears, and he reveals himself.
Blaze drops down from the ceiling, the Tattered Cloak covers himself whole. His head is slightly lowered.
Anton stops in his tracks and does a 180-degree turn, now aiming at Blaze.
The fusion between the two grants them some sort of flight ability. The Human Torpedo hovers slightly above the ground and dashes at an extreme speed.
But it never goes above two or three meters high. It's probably the limitation of this ability.
For someone who cannot move vertically, this ability surely becomes a death sentence for them.
Blaze was able to dodge all that thanks to the Grappling Hook.
The original three items, Tattered Cloak, Grappling Hook, and Lantern of the Damned, always find themselves useful in all scenarios. A true package that is needed for Beginners.
The System did not lie when it gave Blaze the Beginner's Gift.
Blaze lifts his head up, and the Tattered Mask once again lights up in red. The dark energy pours out again and enters the flesh bullet that is coming toward him.
It seems like others cannot see this energy, only Blaze can sense it.
The Human Torpedo breaks apart. Hugo's and Anton's bodies split and fly over to two sides.
They writhe on the ground, grabbing their head like some sort of insect just drilled a hole in their brain.
These goons do not have any resistance to the Tattered Mask at all, the same as before.
Its power is almost entirely mental, and no matter how fit your body is, you will get affected by it.
The only exception was Nadyr, he was able to resist the effect of Fear and run away.
Blaze wonders if it's because Nadyr has some sort of mental superpower or if it's purely because his mind is stronger and more fortified.
Once the two fall into the fear state, they are no longer a threat and are simply at the mercy of Blaze.
But he does not want to kill them yet.
These two interest Blaze, he wants to know who they are and why they lost themselves on this despicable path.
Blaze approaches the two and sucks their souls out of their bodies.
Two yellow fireballs flicker on Blaze's palm. His eyes turn yellow, and the light beam shoots into their soul, examining their memories.
Hugo and Anton were truly different from the others.
Different from William, they did not choose to become criminals. The two were orphans and were left at the doorstep of a church.
The church raised them until they were around five or six, but then it got demolished so that Vox Entertainment could build a new studio there.

The children inside the church were scattered on the street, fighting for their lives and finding their own way to survive.
Hugo and Anton were inside a group of seven children. They died off one by one.
The first was taken by hunger.
The second died due to the cold.
The third was killed. Her naked body was left in an alleyway.
The fourth killed himself after seeing the third.
The fifth tried to kill Hugo so that he could eat him. Anton intervened, and they both ended the fifth's life.
Seven children, all dead, only Hugo and Anton survived.
Then a man found them. He saw the resilience and violence the two were capable of. He found them useful, so he took them in.
Giancarlo Cavalcante, the Iron Knight. A named hero and billionaire of Ranas. He is one of the shareholders of Vox Entertainment. People call him the most influential man in the country.
"So you are the man behind everything."
Blaze mumbles.
Cavalcante's wealth must come from something. He did not inherit a fortune, nor is his family line powerful Awakened. He gained his wealth from human trafficking.
Blaze clenched his fist.
"What man does to gain power..."
After taking the two orphans, Cavalcante trained them to be killers, bodyguards, and henchmen who do his bidding. But the two proved to be inefficient in this job, as their heart was pure.
They can never outright murder people unless that person harmed them first. Not a good mentality for henchmen.
So Cavalcante transferred them to the Roof, where their antics and personality are no longer a problem.
The two are still too naive for this type of depravity, so they mostly do security work inside the Roof and never dip their hands in shadier business.
They are still virgins, for God's sake, they never take their hand on any girls.
Blaze sighs. This cruel world has pushed people into monsters.
"What they do is wrong, but they don't have a choice. It was either death or corruption.
But maybe they can redeem themselves."
It is obvious that Blaze doesn't want to kill them. He empathizes with their situation.
If it wasn't for the System, Blaze could have easily strayed from his path and fallen into their shoes.
So he decides to give them a choice.
Blaze releases the two souls back to their body and removes their Fear state.
Hugo and Anton slowly gain consciousness and stand up again. This time, they are both silent.
"It seems like you understand your situation."
Blaze says.
The two look at each other and nod. They are no match for Blaze, keep going, and they will surely die.
"I saw your life. It was hard and unforgiving.
I can understand why you became who you are. But wrong is wrong, and right is right.
What you do is despicable. Even if you don't directly take part in it.
I now give you a choice. To die right here, right now. Or become my servants.
The choice is yours."
Anton gulps, eyeing Hugo. Hugo is always the brain of the two, and Anton is the muscle. He lets Hugo decide everything.
"It's not that simple. The man..."
"I know who Cavalcante is. I will come for him eventually."
"I understand. But he saved us. Even if he himself is a monster."
Hugo says. His bizarre antics from before have completely disappeared, only seriousness is left.
"If you decide to kill him, we cannot just stand and watch. We owe him."
"So you choose death?"
Sweat runs on Hugo's face. He bites his lips and thinks hard.
"Only me. Kill me now so that our debt to him is paid. We did what he asked, and I will die for his cause.
But I beg you to let Anton live. He is too pure for this world.
He shouldn't be a criminal. He should have a family and become a construction worker somewhere."
"Hugo... You?!"
"Shut up, Anton!"
Blaze claps slowly.
"Very admirable, Mr. Hugo. But I am not a charity. I only let you live because you may be useful to me.
Remember, what you did, even if you don't want to do it, is despicable.
So there are only two choices.
You two become my servants for eternity. Or die together right now."
Hugo bites his lip harder, blood bursts out from the flesh.
He wants to save Anton so that he can repay his debt to him. Without Anton, Hugo would have died that day when the fifth child tried to kill him.
"Sire... Your Honor... Whatever you truly are...
I cannot betray Cavalcante because we owe him. So I have to give my life to repay this debt.
And that should be enough.
I beg you to keep Anton alive after my death. He can be very useful for you."
"Hugo! No! If we die, we die together!"
"Anton, shut the fuck up, will you?!"
"Very well. You were brothers in life.
Now, you can be brothers in death."
Blaze takes out the Destruction Wand. A ball of darkness appears on the tip of the wand.
