Chapter 1114 -665: Daniel Thompson – I Feel Someone Needs Me in the Distance_2

Daniel Thompson turned his head.

A vigorous woman in a grayish-green technician’s jumpsuit stood below, looking up at him.

The woman had shoulder-length short hair, which gave her a clean and neat appearance, and her face showed a curious and nervous expression.

Daniel Thompson turned back and walked down a couple of steps, getting closer, “Yes, who are you?”

Blushing, the woman turned her face away, “My name is Vincent Lewis, I’m a heavy nucleus collection technician.”

“Oh, hello there, Vincent. How do you know me?”

Daniel puzzled.

“Well… that…” Vincent stuttered.

It took her a while to say, “We’re neighbors; my family lives downstairs from yours. We often bumped into each other when we were kids.”

Daniel thought for a moment; a spark appeared in his eyes, “Little fat girl.”

“Hmmm!”

Daniel cheered up, “I can’t believe how beautiful you’ve become. What brings you here?”

“I… I just came for a walk, to clear my mind.” Vincent lied.

She was not a professional undercover agent, nor an actress. Her nerves made her a poor liar.

But she could not admit that just a day ago, while working on the Regeneration Saturn Ring and constructing a Heavy Nucleus Rapid Circulation Station, she received a message. The message informed her that Daniel Thompson, the older brother she sneakily watched countless times as a child, had successfully graduated and was now of marriageable age.

Not thinking too much about it, she took a leave of absence, boarded the Solar System Transportation Network Rapid Shuttle back to Earth, and just happened to intercept Daniel here.

She came to get married. But as a girl, her face was too thin, and she couldn’t bring herself to say it.

Completely oblivious, Daniel didn’t understand Vincent’s thoughts. He just saw her as an old friend and eagerly invited her, “Why don’t we hang out together?”

“Okay.”

What was one person’s walk became a walk for two, and Daniel’s attention was diverted.

While walking and talking, they covered all sorts of topics from their childhood playfulness to their current jobs and even their outlook on the future.

“Is it hard being a collector?”

“Not really, most of the time I work in a spatial office, coordinating with AI to handle unexpected situations. It’s definitely more relaxed than being in the military.”

“Hey! There’s no distinction between hard and easy jobs; everyone contributes in their own way.”

“Daniel, you really love quoting classics.”

“Ahem, I don’t have much culture myself, so I memorize these quotes to bluff.”

“Hahaha, you’re so funny. As a child, I didn’t dare talk to you. You always seemed serious, and your excellence made me nervous.”

“Wow, really? I guess you’re the only one who thinks I am excellent. I’ve worked so hard, but all I am is a B-class warrior.”

“There are plenty of people who only make it to C-class. For instance, my combat talent evaluation is D-class. I don’t qualify for the military, so I have to be a collector.”

Daniel: “It doesn’t matter. A collector is also an important position. It’s good that you’ve worked hard.”

“You too.”

“Hmm.”

“So, what are your plans, Daniel? Have you made a decision?”

“I want to go to the front lines, but my family doesn’t agree. It’s not that they’re afraid of me sacrificing myself, but they believe my level isn’t good enough for the front lines. If I die there, it’d be a waste. They want me to stay as an instructor in the school since they think I have a knack for training new recruits.”

“Is that so?” A hopeful Vincent replied, thinking that if he didn’t leave, their chances of being together would be higher.

“I agree. Since your talent is in that area, why not strengthen it? Stay here then.”

“But I… I’m not satisfied. In my opinion, an instructor who hasn’t been tested on the battlefield is just all talk. It’s irresponsible to the students. Also, I feel like…”

“What do you feel?”

Daniel suddenly stopped, slowly saying, “I feel someone far away needs me, calling for me.”

“Huh?”

“I can’t describe this feeling. Maybe it’s just my delusion, or perhaps I think too highly of myself, but I feel that fate has a plan for me. This plan might get me killed, but if I don’t try to fulfill it, I won’t find peace. I’d be living like a walking corpse.”

Vincent didn’t know what to say, “But… but…”

“I know what you’re thinking; you don’t think I’m strong enough to handle the responsibility, right? Haha, don’t worry, I know myself.”

“So will you still go to the front line?”

“I don’t know.”

As they were chatting, Daniel’s communicator beeped.

It was a broadcast message.

He opened it and his expression shifted slightly.

The third option appeared.

Real-time intelligence from the front lines indicated that the Sky Hole Portal in the Cloudtop Star Region’s Dagger War Zone had been functioning stably for two years. Numerous human fleets had already passed through the Sky Hole Passage and entered the Cloudtop Star Region to partake in the most intense battle between humans and the Compound-Eyed Observer.

Humanity was up against an exceptionally strong Compound-Eyed Observer military force in that region, and the battle was fierce. In order to prevent the backup forces from falling behind and not keeping up with frontline consumption, The Morrowind Empire launched a full-scale recruitment involving the entire empire ahead of schedule.

Effective immediately, all soldiers of the rear echelon star systems’ garrison troops could choose whether to register for the selection. Those who passed the selection would enter the frontline reserve service and go to the Warp Stargate leading directly to the Sky Hole Stargate, while receiving intensified training.
