I Reawakened as an Inferno Hero-Chapter 25: Disruption caused by the strange Portal
Chapter 25: Disruption caused by the strange Portal
It wasn't actually a figure coming out of the portal but instead, two.
Dan was alarmed now and turned to look at Axel.
"How could this be? This— this place is off-limits to anyone. How come?"
Axel couldn't answer the question. He only clenched his fists, ready for battle.
Some superheroes were beside him, while others were unsure because they were at his back, appalled looks on their faces.
Dan stood in front of Axel, his fists also clenched, radiating cosmic energy all over his body.
The portal was still there, the edges scintillating and shimmering and all, but the problem was that the figures that should have come out of it weren't coming out.
They seemed to be prolonging their entrance. Axel, squinting his eyes, realized that they might be calculating the situation at hand.
Royal Cloak's voice thundered now:
"We're in danger, the damned people of this hall. I have already listed your powers. It's now time for you all to use them."
Axel almost frowned, at least to act cool, but he didn't— not when he was nervous.
Some superheroes who had earlier been scared to fight now stood beside Axel, ready to battle.
Axel looked at them very quickly, by the way. Doing so, he saw Ember Lancer. She was fully activated, ready to fight.
Royal Cloak still stood where he was. Axel threw a glance at him and shrugged. You couldn't blame him. He was safe, all right. That was a safe spot. Before any danger was to reach him from where he was, a superhero would have intervened.
Axel, now looking forward, threw a glance backward again at Royal Cloak and saw that the wagon stuff was slowly going up. Soon, it was all the way up to the roof, and two hefty-looking men in cool superhero-like suits, black in color, flew in the air and stood (also in the air) beside Royal Cloak. Apparently, they were protecting him.
Other men, like the guards, flew and surrounded the portal, the superheroes beside them too.
They all paused and...
Silence!
It was very loud, and that seemed ironic because silence had never been heard before, but at this point, it was.
Piercing, fueled with tension.
Everyone was sweating now, their hands clenched. The open portal was dashing out gusts of wind into their faces, and they had to twist them into grimaces to reduce the effect.
Dan shouted now:
"Who the hell are you? Come the f**k out!"
They paused, even holding their breaths, but still, nothing happened. No one was coming out. They could only see two figures standing toward the end of the portal, their presence tenebrous.
Ember Lancer was shooting fire fragments from her hands now toward the portal. Aura Strike was about to do the same too, to throw something at the portal with her powers when—
WHOOOSHM!
Portalwalker was thrown out of the portal. He hit his face on the ground, his breath coming in ragged and rough.
Dan was shocked and was about to move closer to Portalwalker (Jeffery), but then Portalwalker raised his face upwards and went on his knees before saying:
"I wanted to come here. I— I had summoned the portal. But out of not wanting to lose, I entered a villain's lounge. God! I've been beaten as hell. I had to struggle to summon this portal. And —"
Jeffery (Portalwalker) looked frightfully pale now. He looked at the portal and said, almost in a whisper,
"They are primitive-looking, have no superpowers. But they have technology. Goddamn technology."
Dan looked at him and said, his voice hoarse and loud:
"Move. C'mon, move! Get out of there. Come!"
Jeffery let out a sad laugh.
"If I move, they'll kill me!" he said in a very low whisper. "I don't know what to do. Help me! If I move, I'll—"
KA!
The sound of a bullet from the portal. It came at rapid speed toward Jeffery. Everyone seemed to see it— even Jeffery. It was going to meet him.
[STOP]
Time slowed down, fervently. It reduced. Axel could now see everything very clearly but then, very slowly.
He realized that things weren't actually slow, at least to everyone. It was only to him. This wasn't the first time things had been slow now. This was actually the third.
And any time things became slow, it was in a dangerous situation. Something was about to happen, something dangerous. And so, time, due to his system, stopped.
Axel blinked and looked at the portal. A bullet had shot out of it, and now it was heading toward Jeffery's neck, who was now pale.
Axel sensed that Jeffery must have heard the sound of the bullet, and so he had welcomed death. Death was about to kiss his neck. Not metaphorically but instead, literally. Death was about to grab him.
Axel was like a messiah now. He was Jeffery's savior.
'Enough of thinking!' Axel thought. 'Time to get into action.'
Like a speedster, Axel dashed forward, very swiftly, the flames all over his body flickering as the wind licked them.
But Axel actually wasn't fast. Since everything was in slow motion, his speed was suppressed by the 'slow motion' force in the hall.
And so, Axel struggled forward, very swiftly. A single kiss of the wind against his skin set him ablaze even more.
Axel smiled at this. He was ablaze?
Hell!
He had already created his superhero name now. He was going to call himself:
INFERNO BLAZE!
Not too unique or original, but at least it was better than many of the other superheroes who had weird names. To Axel, they weren't even cool. They seemed like something a robot would come up with.
He almost tripped but steadied himself, and with a spin, he was almost at Jeffery, who had already started to close his eyes, ready to die.
The bullet was just a decimeter (if that was a thing and if it was possible) from Jeffery's neck.

Axel felt like he couldn't do it. He held his breath.
'Would Jeffery die?'
