Chapter 300: Chapter 296: A Long Corridor
Fang Xiaocao rushed to the woman’s bedside, lifted the hair from her face, and only when she saw the lovely face under the strands did she finally breath a sigh of relief.
She had guessed right—it was indeed Hummingbird.
“Hummingbird, Hummingbird…”
Fang Xiaocao patted Hummingbird’s lovely face, softly calling her name.
After a few calls, there was no response from Hummingbird.
But seeing Hummingbird’s faintly rising and falling chest, Fang Xiaocao knew that she was okay.
Fang Xiaocao picked up the Dagger, cut the straps binding Hummingbird’s limbs, then staggered over to the table, picking up both their clothes before returning to Hummingbird’s bedside.
Suppressing the intense pain in her hand, she put on her clothes, secured her weapons close to her body, and sat on the ground next to Hummingbird’s bed. With the Dagger and her good hand and teeth, she carefully bandaged her mangled hand.
“I wonder if it will get infected…”
Leaning against Hummingbird’s bed, looking at her hand wrapped in the bedsheet, Fang Xiaocao murmured to herself.
“Ah…”
She sighed and cocked the gun.
With her good hand firmly holding the gun, a cold glint flashed across Fang Xiaocao’s eyes.
All the fault of the person who had tied her and Hummingbird to the bed.
She would never worry about blaming the wrong person for tormenting her so heartbreakingly just to save herself.
What kind of good person could strip two unconscious girls to their underwear and confine them to a bed?
Would a normal person do such a thing?
Fang Xiaocao had a suspicion in her mind.
The person who had tied her and Hummingbird up.
It was very likely the person from the Pawnshop that Taotie mentioned; she and Hummingbird might already be living organ transplant stock for the Pawnshop.
Once a successful tissue match was found, she and Hummingbird could be wheeled into an operating room, vivisected to harvest the organs the Pawnshop needed, then their bodies could be thrown into the Man-eating Rat Nest that Taotie and Tom had burned.
“Hmph…”
Just as Fang Xiaocao was deep in thought, an unconscious moan came from Hummingbird on the bed behind her.
Fang Xiaocao’s heart lifted, knowing that Hummingbird was about to wake up.
Fang Xiaocao helped herself up using the edge of the bed.
She gently patted Hummingbird’s lovely face, “Hummingbird, Hummingbird, please wake up…”
It seemed that Hummingbird heard Fang Xiaocao’s calls as her eyebrows slightly furrowed, and her eyelids began to flutter rapidly.
“Hummingbird…”

“Hummingbird…”
Amidst Fang Xiaocao’s calls, Hummingbird slowly opened her eyes, casting a somewhat baffled look toward Fang Xiaocao.
“Princess Your Highness…”
Hummingbird hoarsely called out to Fang Xiaocao.
Fang Xiaocao smiled and embraced Hummingbird tightly.
“It’s good you’re awake…”
“It’s good you’re awake…”
Fang Xiaocao kept repeating these words under her breath.
Tears flowed uncontrollably from her eyes.
Hummingbird had woken up, and Xiaocao could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The pain and loneliness, coupled with tense nerves, had kept her on the brink of collapse.
Now that Hummingbird was awake, she finally had someone to share her fears with.
Hummingbird embraced Xiaocao, gently patting her back, and whispered softly, “Be good, Princess Your Highness, don’t cry, okay? With Hummingbird here, there’s no need to be afraid…”
In the soothing murmur of Hummingbird, Xiaocao’s emotions gradually eased.
Hesitantly, Xiaocao shared her suspicions, experiences, and self-rescue efforts.
After listening to Xiaocao’s story, Hummingbird glanced at the blood-stained bed and the hand still oozing blood despite being wrapped in sheets, a fierce glint flashing in her eyes.
“Huh…”
Xiaocao let out a deep breath, feeling much better. A bit shyly, she struggled out of Hummingbird’s embrace and handed her the clothes lying nearby. “Quick, put on your clothes. Let’s figure out a way to escape and find Taotie and Tom,” she said.
Hummingbird nodded and took the clothes.
She dressed neatly in front of Xiaocao.
Fortunately, their equipment bags were still with them.
Nothing had been taken.
This made Xiaocao breathe another sigh of relief.
She could lose everything except her phone, which could contact her future self. That, she couldn’t afford to lose.
Although since entering the ancient tomb, she had lost contact with Hot Noodles and her messages had gone unanswered like stones sinking into the sea.
But Xiaocao knew this was only temporary; perhaps Hot Noodles was facing some issue and couldn’t reply to her messages.
Or perhaps being in the ancient tomb, faced with various dangers and choices, Hot Noodles was too engrossed in his own experiences to be distracted.
Xiaocao believed that if she were to face a real crisis, Hot Noodles would send her a message as before, reminding her of the danger.
Once Hummingbird was appropriately dressed, she picked up Xiaocao’s backpack, found a small refrigerator holding vaccines, took out a tetanus vaccine, and injected Xiaocao. After packing everything up, she helped Xiaocao on with her backpack and took her own. Hummingbird, holding a gun, moved to the door.
Seeing this, Xiaocao also picked up a gun and joined Hummingbird. Hummingbird glanced at Xiaocao, who nodded in understanding, raised her gun, and aimed it at the door, as Hummingbird held out her gun-holding hand, putting up three fingers and began the countdown.
When the last finger clenched the gun handle, Hummingbird’s hand on the doorknob forcefully pushed, and the tightly shut metal door swung open.
As the door opened, Hummingbird flashed past it, rolled tactically out of the room, and surveyed her surroundings with her gun before signaling it was safe to Xiaocao.
Xiaocao immediately dashed out of the room, watching Hummingbird’s back attentively.
This was a long corridor with rooms identical to theirs on both sides, even the metal doors were the same.
Xiaocao and Hummingbird exchanged glances.
Hummingbird pointed at the metal door across them, gesturing Xiaocao to go closer and have a look.
Xiaocao nodded and tiptoed to the metal door. Seeing the small sliding window, she turned off her gun’s safety, tucked it into her waist, and gently slid open the window to peek inside.
The room was empty, no people as imagined, just a blood-stained bed and a shadowless lamp directly above the bed.
“It’s an operation room!”
“This must be the Pawnshop!” Xiaocao whispered to Hummingbird.
Hummingbird nodded and came closer to take a peek.
Xiaocao cast a glance down the long corridor with several rooms and asked in a low voice, “Hummingbird, do you think Taotie and Tom might be in one of these rooms?”
Hummingbird shook her head. “No!”
“If we could get out, with their skills, if they were really trapped here, they would have escaped and started looking for us by now.”
“Plus, they weren’t with us during the earthquake, so it’s not likely they were captured.”
Xiaocao couldn’t help but admire how quickly and logically Hummingbird’s mind worked.
