I, the Villain, Want to Save Myself, But the Yandere Heroines Disagree-Chapter 23 - Sandstorm Subsides and Family Crisis (2/9)
“The structure here feels unlike a simple maze.”
Walking through the underground maze, Orson felt increasingly uneasy.
From the outside in, the number of rooms was decreasing.
Each room on the outside housed a bronze statue of a creature, making it look like a museum. However, based on Orson’s understanding of Limusa, Lord of All Beasts, during this time, this didn’t seem like a spontaneously built “museum,” but rather a tomb.
The bronze statues here were realistically crafted representations of the beings he had created with his own hands during his lifetime. Their purpose was to accompany him after his death and protect him for eternity.
Just as Orson was thinking this, only one room remained ahead.
This room was incredibly large. On the left and right sides of the room, there were various kinds of fierce beasts, and near the central steps, a beastman was kneeling.
On the central steps was a large stone coffin. At this moment, the lid of the stone coffin was open.
And on either side of the stone coffin, there were two bronze statues.
What surprised Orson the most was that the race of the statues was not the beastmen, Limusa’s favorite creations as described in the ancient temple book, but demi-humans like Laina.
“...This place seems to be Limusa’s tomb,” Orson said this, which startled Laina.
“Wait, wait! Then, big brother, have we offended Lord Limusa?!” Her tone was a little anxious.
After all, this was a deity’s tomb. Disturbing someone’s resting place after death was a great act of disrespect.
Just then, behind the two, at the entrance of the tomb, another sound of footsteps returned.
“I truly didn’t expect that at this time, Hela’s kin would come here.” Standing at the entrance was none other than the beastman Shaman who had talked to the two about the basement on the ground level.
“If you hadn’t suddenly asked me, I wouldn’t have thought you might be that kind of person,” the Shaman looked at Orson, his eyes fierce.
And at this moment, the beastman Shaman was not alone. Behind him were many muscular beastman warriors, each of whom seemed to have Tier 6 strength.
Although the temple had no guards, the Shaman had quite a few personal guards. They were usually stationed elsewhere, not to obstruct people who entered.
If anyone dared to commit blasphemy within the temple, the Shaman would still summon his guards to drive them away, or even execute them in front of the deity.
“Wait, Great Shaman! Let’s talk properly. Big brother Edward is not...”
“Enough! We have nothing to say to humans and lowly demi-humans who harbor humans! Attack!”
The Shaman interrupted Laina’s words and directly ordered the beastmen behind him to attack.
The beastmen behind him received the order and immediately lunged at Orson and Laina.
Orson blocked in front of Laina, frowning.
He had not wanted Laina to see such a bloody scene, but at this moment, he had to do it.
Laina covered her eyes, waiting for the outcome of being captured. But unexpectedly, when she reopened her eyes, the beastmen around the Shaman had already fallen scattered on the ground.
Orson showed no mercy to the beastmen. Therefore, their wounds were all remarkably similar.
They had all died from having their throats cut.
Laina’s eyes widened as she looked at the bloody scene before her. She slowly retreated backward in disbelief.
“Speak. Tell me all the information you know about this place,” Orson said, looking at the beastman Shaman, raising the longsword in his hand which was still stained with warm beastman blood.
“Heh, it seems you are very confident in your strength,” the beastman Shaman said this, smiling as he looked at Orson. Then, he raised the wooden staff in his hand.
“Alright, then I will tell you.”
“Here, this underground tomb where the great King of All Beasts, Limusa, is buried, contains the sacred artifact of our beastman religion, the Heart of All Beasts.”
Saying this, the Shaman laughed loudly.
“I never understood what the ancient script above required. Although I wanted to enter here, I have always struggled to find a way.”
“Thanks to you, human. If it weren’t for you, how would I have obtained something as precious as the Heart of All Beasts?”
Saying this, the beastman Shaman chanted an incantation. His body rapidly expanded. Judging by his strength, he was not even inferior to Balu.
“I was waiting for this day,” Saying this, he charged towards the stone coffin.
Orson glanced at the Shaman’s target, then proactively rushed forward, attempting to use his body to block the Shaman’s attack.
“Heh, you, a Tier 7, think you can stop me?” The Shaman said this, disdainfully swinging his wooden staff at Orson.
Orson took the blow directly. He immediately felt a sharp pain in the area between his thumb and index finger, almost losing his grip on the sword.
“Fine, it doesn’t matter if I kill you before taking the Heart of the Gods,” the Shaman locked his gaze onto Orson.
Orson now wanted to rush to the stone coffin and snatch the Heart of the Gods, but he would definitely be stopped by the Shaman on the way.
He didn’t know if he could withstand a blow from the other party with his body, so he didn’t dare to take the risk.
Just at this moment, the beastman Shaman charged directly towards Orson, carrying immense momentum, as if intending to shatter all of Orson’s bones.
Orson quickly used magic to move a distance to the side.
Subsequently, the spot where he had been was immediately smashed, creating a large crack.
One could imagine what would have happened to his bones and flesh if that blow had landed on him.
The beastman Shaman was startled by Orson’s physics-defying movement, then sneered.
“Heh, you think you can defeat me just because you know a few petty tricks?” Saying this, he chanted another spell. Orson immediately felt the surrounding air become much heavier, making movement incredibly difficult.
Then, the beastman Shaman swung his staff, which was being used as a club, at Orson again.
Orson narrowly dodged this attack again.
“I’m actually very curious why many people say that leaders, upon seeing the enemy, approach them gradually instead of using their strongest attack right away. Now I see,” the Shaman said this, continuing to mock Orson with his words.
“That confidence of constantly parrying the opponent, thinking they have escaped death, and even thinking they can counter-kill, ultimately turning into surprise and despair, is what is most intoxicating!”
Orson looked at the other party’s movements, greatly shocked.
Who would have thought that the beastman Shaman, who seemed to have no combat ability, would turn out to be his greatest enemy on this journey?
It seemed now that the threat posed by the other party was even greater than Balu.
At least, when facing Balu, he should have been able to put up some resistance...
Subsequently, as if playing a game, the gravity around Orson was constantly being manipulated by the beastman Shaman, becoming heavy one moment and returning to normal the next.
In this environment, Orson couldn’t even fight back. Just dodging the other party’s attacks alone was enough to exhaust all his energy.
At this moment, Laina also recovered from the shock she had just experienced and looked in the direction where Orson and the beastman Shaman were fighting.
Laina was not a fool. She could clearly see that Orson was at a complete disadvantage, but being powerless to fight back, she couldn’t help Orson at all and could only stand by and worry.
Just at this moment, she suddenly remembered that the Heart of All Beasts mentioned by the beastman Shaman earlier seemed to be in the stone coffin.
Thinking this, Laina tiptoed quietly to the stone coffin.
Then, as expected, she saw a skeleton in the stone coffin. And among the bones, a heart was beating powerfully.
Was this the so-called Heart of All Beasts? Laina thought this, reached out, and carefully took the Heart of All Beasts from the bones.
Looking at the heart glowing with blue light and still beating in her hand, Laina was startled.
She had actually taken out the sacred artifact so easily?
Great. This way, she should be able to help big brother Edward!
Just as Laina was thinking this, preparing to look up at the battle, she felt a chill in her chest.
In her ears, she heard Orson’s voice, tinged with a hint of despair.
“Laina!!!”
A sharp stone spear had pierced her chest, creating a large bleeding hole.
Until she fell, her face held an expression of joy.
“Big... brother...” she said weakly.
Then, her entire body fell powerlessly.
