Chapter 112: Chapter 112

The moment I gazed into his eyes, I was captivated by their depth and warmth. It felt so wrong yet so right, I can feel my heart beating fast. Our faces inched closer together, lifting the air around us with an electric tension. Just as I felt the world narrowing to just the two of us, a voice suddenly interrupted us.

"Remillia? Cypher? Where are you guys? We’re almost at our destination!" I felt like I was splashed with a bucket of cold water when I heard Whitney’s voice just near our location.

As Whitney finally approached the two, she was weirded out when she saw Cypher sitting on the ground dazed while Remillia is facing at the other side while covering her face. "Am I missing something?" Her gaze shifted between the two, her brows furrowing.

Panicking, I blurted out, "N-NO! I mean can you help him? He injured his leg and I need to check if we’re really near."

With those words, I hurried ahead, weaving through the trees as I made my way to where Angela and Edge were waiting. My mind spiraled with confusion and self-reproach. ’Have I lost my mind? No! I can’t fall in love with him! He’s the main character, the hero of this story, and he’s already fated to be with Angela! This needs to stop!’

I pressed my palm against my chest, willing my racing heart to calm down, but the memory of his gaze haunted me, lingering like a sweet melody I couldn’t shake.

’Focus, Remillia,’ I chided myself. ’This isn’t about me. It’s about returning back. This is a journey, not my own romance novel,’ I could almost hear my heart whispering back in defiance, teasing me to reconsider. But, deep down, I knew I had to push these feelings aside.

Meanwhile, Cypher who was sitting on the ground stood up as if the injury Remillia was saying had vanished and looked at Whitney with a hint of hatred in his eyes. Whitney met his gaze and froze in shock. ’Am I imagining things? Did he just glare at me?’ But when she blinked again, it was already gone, it was replaced by the familiar, kind smile that Cypher was known for. The contrast between the two expressions bugged her—something about him just moments ago felt darker and serious.

"What are you waiting for? Let’s go already," His voice broke through her thoughts, and she shook her head, snapping back to reality.

"Wait, what about your injury?" she asked, genuine concern lacing her tone as she crossed her arms.

Cypher stopped and looked back at her, "Remi’s just worried about me that’s all... If only you hadn’t interrupted us, she would have healed me already," However the last sentence were voiced in a whisper as he turned his back on her so Whitney can’t clearly hear it.

Whitney felt a strange blend of relief and confusion. ’Was it all in her head?’ She couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something deeper lingering in those fleeting seconds. Yet, Cypher was once again the boy who could make the sun shine brighter and students adore him.

"Alright then," she said, forcing herself to focus. "But if you’re really hurt, it’s not my fault. Don’t say I didn’t warn you."

Cypher laughed softly. "I promise, I’ll be fine. Now, let’s catch up to the rest before they think we got lost in here," he replied, gesturing ahead.

As I made my way over to where Angela and Edge were waiting, I can already see the sea and the cruise ship. They got a little earlier than the time limit.

Angela spotted me first, her brow furrowing in confusion. "Where’s Cypher? I thought he was with you."

A blush crept up on my cheek. "I, um, left him with Whitney," I stammered. "His injuries still need attention, and I wanted to see how far we had to go but it seems that we’re already here."

Angela’s expression shifted to worry. "Oh no! I forgot he was hurt. I’ll go check on him." Without another word, she darted off, leaving Edge standing there with a tense look on his face.

"Way to ruin our mood, witch," he snapped, his tone dripping with irritation.

"Hey, calm down! Don’t forget I made a way for you to be alone with her, didn’t I?" I defended.

He shot me a glare before turning away, his feet carrying him towards the sea.

Sighing, I muttered under my breath, ’What a lovesick fool,’ and followed him.

When we reached the shore, Rex, like a puppy finally meeting his owner, greeted Edge. "What took you so long? Where are the others? Where’s Whitney?"

Edge only took one look at him before Rex understood the meaning, effectively shutting his mouth. ’What did I do? I just asked a question?’

Although it was only for a short moment when his eyes happened to land on me. "Hey witch! Where are the others?"

I also chose to ignore him as I don’t have the energy to talk.

Rex glanced back and forth between us, confusion knitting his brow. "What’s wrong with them? They look like they missed some big moment with their lovers—eeek!"

In unison, Edge and I turned towards him, hurling our bags at him. "What are you talking about?!" we shouted together, frustration flashing in our eyes as we went on our separate ways.

"What did I do again?" Rex asked, bewildered, rubbing his head where one of the bags had landed.

Just then, Christian appeared, laughter spilling from him as he slapped Rex on the back. "It’s your fault anyway," he teased, clearly enjoying the chaos. "You’re like a talking parrot whose beak won’t shut up."

"Why you!" "Why, you—!" Rex growled, his anger flaring as he took off chasing Christian as they went inside the ship, their playful antics drawing amused glances from the other students.

With the exams now completely over, the atmosphere aboard the cruise ship had transformed into one of celebration. Students gathered in groups, chatting, laughing, and enjoying the breathtaking views that surrounded us.

However, Remillia can’t relax as she stared dazedly at the hologram scoreboard on the center of the huge lounge. freёnovelkiss.com

’I overdid it again.’

At the top of the list, my name glowed triumphantly, the score far exceeding everyone else’s.

’This is the reason why the students stared at me.’

I didn’t even hunt for two days straight thinking that it’s a hassle to be on the top one. So how the hell neither of the rest bested my score?

Glancing down the leaderboard, I wasn’t surprised to see Kairos ranked second. His experience in battle certainly gave him an edge, and I could only admire his skill. Below him, Cypher and Edge tied for third; a solid performance, but well below my score.

It can’t be helped, I’ll lay low this time so the main leads could do their jobs.

"Remillia, come on! Let’s celebrate you being on top one again!" Christian exclaimed, his voice cutting through my tangled thoughts like a knife.

I turned to my side and saw him waving enthusiastically from our table, flanked by the rest of our friends. With a small smile, I nodded and made my way over, squeezing myself between Angela and Christian.

Although I was feeling a bit awkward since the rest of the students lounging there are watching my every move.

Rex seemed to notice the surroundings and glared at the students. "What are you looking at? Do you want me to gouge your eyes out?"

In an instant, the gazes shifted away from us, and the surrounding buzz of chatter resumed. I couldn’t help but chuckle at Rex’s antics.

Christian raised his cup of coffee, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Let’s cheer for Remillia for being the top one again in our exams!"

His enthusiasm was infectious, and I found myself blushing at the unexpected spotlight. One by one, we all raised our cups, and even Edge, who had initially crossed his arms in reluctance, complied when Angela nudged him gently. With a reluctant sigh, he lifted his cup, and we clinked them together.

"To Remillia!" everyone shouted in unison before we downed our drinks, the rich flavor of coffee giving a comforting warmth to my cheeks.

The instructors had strictly prohibited alcoholic beverages so coffee became our celebratory drink of choice. As we enjoyed the moment, laughter erupted, mingling with the salty sea breeze.
