I was shocked the moment I entered the room.

I had never seen Gramps like this.

I wanted to run away from reality, but I slowly approached Gramps, who was lying on the bed.

The healthy figure I had seen before was nowhere to be found. Green spots had appeared on his face. His cheeks were hollow, and his eyes were slightly vacant, and it looked as if he had lost a lot of weight.

I had seen people’s emaciated and exhausted figures and corpses before. The impoverished village was a place full of such people.

I thought I was used to such scenes, but when I saw Gramps’ weakened figure, I felt as if my heart would break.

Gramps smiled weakly at me with his head resting on a large pillow. He probably didn’t have the strength to get up anymore.

The older he gets, the faster the spotted disease progresses… I realized again as I looked at Gramps.

“I’m sorry, please. I just had to see you…”

“Come here.”

Gramps said in a soft voice to reassure me and patted the bed. I sat down.

“I’m sorry, you had to see me like this.”

His voice sounded weaker than usual. I felt as if Gramps was about to disappear.

“No, it’s okay. I finished the medicine.”

I pointed the bottle with the cure towards Gramps and saw his golden eyes dilate just like Alicia’s.

“…You got Maddie?” Google search 𝙛𝘳𝘦𝐞𝑤ℯ𝗯n𝗼ѵe𝑙. c૦𝑚

“I fused Lipsim, Tolchis, and Currant. …I haven’t done any clinical trials, but I’m pretty certain this is the same component as Maddie.”

I informed Gramps in a sure voice.

He slowly accepted the bottle from me.

…What thin hands.

Gramps was still doing his best to help the people of the impoverished village, even while looking like this.

He opened the lid with one hand and sniffed the medicine inside. My tension grew with every gesture he made.

“Sweet smell, orange liquid…” he mumbled.

I noticed his eyes glowing. He stared at the bottle with his clear golden eyes.

…I remembered Gramps telling me a long time ago that Alicia’s eyes were special.

Do they have some kind of ability like an appraisal? …Or maybe just a discerning eye?

“You really pulled it off, didn’t you?”

After a few moments of silence, Gramps slowly opened his mouth. I patted my chest at his words.

“Alicia has told us that everything will be okay.”

Gramps smiled at me.

I wanted to say, “Alicia’s approval means she’s safe”, but I couldn’t say it out loud. All I could do was smile and hold back my tears.

Gramps gently reached out and put his hand on my head.

Gramps’ hand. My favorite hand.

“Such a little kid…. You’re a big boy now, Gilles.”

With those words, I let go of everything that had been weighing on my heart. A hot sensation ran down my cheeks.

I wasn’t about to cry just a moment ago, but…. tears flowed so quietly.

“I wonder if I can be on par with Alicia?

“Gilles has been standing side by side with Alicia since the beginning.”

Gramps gently pats my head to calm me down.

I would like to stay like this forever.

“Gramps, make sure you drink that.”

I said to Gramps in a slightly cheerful voice, and Gramps looked sorrowful for a moment, but then he immediately smiled to reassure me.

I didn’t want much…I just wanted him to stay with me a little longer.

I told myself that in my mind.

“Thank you.”

The word “thank you” was the deepest “thank you” I have ever heard, and my heart was filled with passion.

I am certain that this “thank you” had many meanings.

Not only for the medicine, but also for everything that had happened since Gramps had met me.
