Chapter 142: Between Clouds and Kisses ( 142 )
Hazuki grabbed his bag with a deep, heavy sigh.
"Fine..." he muttered.
"But I’m gonna come back and marry her properly one day!!"
Ridan grinned.
"Yeah, yeah, dream big, lover boy. Now move."
Hazuki slumped forward, dragging his bag behind him with a defeated sigh.
"Haaa... if only she was already an adult..." he muttered miserably.
"I’m sure I would’ve—properly—asked her to marry me."
Ridan floated beside him, arms folded, voice sharp.
"You wanna get married with no land? No money?"
He spun dramatically.
"Are you stupid?!"
Hazuki opened his mouth—then closed it.
"We’re leaving this town so you can earn more money fast, dumbass!" Ridan barked.
"If you stay here, you’ll just end up doing hard labor for peanuts!"
Hazuki scratched his head, defeated.
"Yeah... yeah, you’re right..." he mumbled.
He kicked a loose stone down the road.
Then added, voice small:
"Well... at least... let me hug her one last time before we leave."
Ridan froze in the air.
He slowly turned toward Hazuki, a wicked grin splitting across his cloud face.
"Oh? Ohhhh?" Ridan said loudly.
"You love kids now? Is that it??"
He spun in the air like a police siren.
"Woop woop!! Where’s the police? Woop woop!! We got a suspicious human here!!"
He mimicked siren noises, spinning around Hazuki’s head.
"Protect the lolis!! Woop woop!!"
Hazuki’s face turned red instantly.
"OI!!!" he shouted, swatting at Ridan’s spinning form.
"IT’S NOT LIKE THAT, YOU DAMN CLOUD!!!"
"Woop woop!! Arrest incoming!!" Ridan howled, still spinning.
"IT’S A WHOLESOME GOODBYE HUG, YOU PERVERTED MIST!!" Hazuki roared.
Passersby gave them weird looks, seeing Hazuki shouting at thin air again.
After several minutes of chaotic arguing, Hazuki finally slumped forward again, grumbling.
"Just one goodbye... that’s all I want..." he muttered.
Ridan stopped spinning and floated quietly behind him.
This time, he didn’t tease.
Because he knew—
this idiot really cared.
As they neared the city gate, the rising sun casting golden rays across the cobblestone, Hazuki walked slower... and slower...
His steps felt heavy.
His chest tight.
His thoughts all on her.
Behind him, Ridan floated lazily, pretending not to care.
"We’ll be back to this town anyway, so don’t cry~" he said in a sing-song voice.
Hazuki flinched.
"Who’s crying!?" he snapped.
Ridan spun in a slow, smug circle.
"Ohhh~ look at that quivering lip."
He floated right next to Hazuki’s ear.
"Looks like Uncle Hajooki wants to cry now~"
Hazuki clenched his fists.
"It’s Hazuki, damn it!!"
"No no, you’re Hajooki now. Hajooki the Heartbroken."
Ridan sniffed dramatically.
"He left his catgirl bride behind~~ so tragic~~"
"SHUT UP!!" Hazuki barked, his voice cracking just a little.
His face was red.
His eyes? Maybe a little watery. Just allergies. Shut up.
Ridan floated slightly higher, looking down with a knowing grin.
"You’re soft, dumbass.
But hey... that’s probably why she likes you."
Hazuki froze for a second—then slowly turned to glare at Ridan.
"Say that again."
"Nope. You imagined it. Must be your Hajooki hallucinations."
Hazuki grumbled under his breath and looked toward the gate—
where people were already moving out, carts rolling, and guards checking documents. freeweɓnøvel.com
Please. Let me see her face before I go...
"Uncle!!"
A familiar voice called out—clear, bright, desperate.
Hazuki spun around, his heart slamming into his ribs.
Standing there, panting slightly from the ride,
was Ellyna.
Her adult form.
Golden hair shining under the morning sun.
Royal blue dress fluttering in the breeze.
Absolute Eye gleaming softly like a precious jewel.
Hazuki’s brain short-circuited.
His heart exploded into fireworks.
His mouth moved before his brain could stop it:
"WHOOOOAAA!!! MARRY ME NOW!!"
Without hesitation—like an idiot possessed by pure love—
Hazuki LEAPT at Ellyna.
"Uwaaahh!!" Ellyna squeaked in surprise, stepping back—
but not fast enough.
Hazuki crashed into her, wrapping his arms around her like a koala clinging to a tree.
"EEEKK!! Uncle!!" Ellyna yelped, trying to keep her balance.
Her guards and Faria, who were just arriving behind her, froze mid-step, eyes wide.
Even the city gate guards dropped their spears in shock.
Hazuki buried his face into Ellyna’s shoulder, completely ignoring the stares.
He muttered dreamily:
"Mmm... my bride..."
Ridan, floating nearby, slapped his cloud-face with both hands.
"This idiot... he’s really gonna get arrested one day for public indecency..." he muttered through telepathy.
Ellyna’s cheeks burned red.
Her heart pounded hard.
But she didn’t push him away.
Slowly—very slowly—
she wrapped her arms around him too.
Just for a moment.
Just for today.
As Hazuki continued clinging to Ellyna like a desperate love-struck puppy, Ridan floated casually nearby—grinning like a fox.
And then—he spoke.
"Oh by the way, Ellyna~," he teased, his voice extra loud this time.
"You didn’t tell him yet, huh~?"
Ellyna froze instantly.
Hazuki blinked.
"...Wait."
He looked between them slowly, then pointed at Ridan and then at Ellyna.
"Huh? You... can see this cloudy thing?"
Ellyna’s eyes shifted, and her tail stiffened slightly.
She opened her mouth—then paused.
"Err... emm..."
Ridan, of course, was floating smugly in tight circles above their heads.
"Oops. Did I say that out loud?~" he said with the fakest innocence imaginable.
Hazuki squinted hard.
"Waaait... since when? You could see him? AND hear him?!!"
Ellyna let out the most unconvincing laugh ever.
"Ahaha... ha... Uncle, you silly~ you must be hearing things~!"
"Oi, don’t ’you silly’ me!!" Hazuki snapped, pointing at both of them.
"You’ve been talking to him this whole time, haven’t you!?"
Ellyna quickly tried to divert.
Ridan spun around mid-air.
"He’s gonna explode in three... two..."
Hazuki shouted, "YOU MEAN I’VE BEEN LOOKING LIKE A CRAZY PERSON SHOUTING AT A CLOUD WHILE YOU COULD SEE HIM THE WHOLE TIME!?!?"
"Uncle..." Ellyna whispered softly, her voice barely audible.
Hazuki blinked, startled by the sudden change in her tone.
"...Ellyna...?"
Their eyes met.
Everything slowed.
Her Absolute Eye shimmered faintly—and his heart skipped.
Ellyna looked up at him, a little nervous, a little shy—but smiling gently.
It was the kind of moment that felt like it belonged in a fairytale.
And then—Ridan ruined it.
"Kissu~ kissu~ chuu chuu~!!" he sang, spinning in wild circles above their heads like a drunk fireworks display.
"Woooo~ real couple moment!! Start the wedding bells!! Kissu chuuu!!"
Hazuki’s face turned beet red.
"SHUT UP, YOU FLOATING BLOAT CLOUD!"
"Kiss her!! Kiss her!! First love moment!!" Ridan kept chanting like a cursed cheerleader.
Ellyna covered her mouth, giggling behind her sleeve.
Her cheeks were pink, but her eyes sparkled with joy.
"Ridan~," she whispered via telepathy, "Please don’t ruin the moment."
Ridan slowed down mid-spin.
"Too late~"
Hazuki turned back to her, still bright red.
"Uhh... I... I wasn’t gonna kiss you!! I mean—I thought—I just—"
Ellyna leaned in slightly.
He froze.
So did the world.
And then—
"KISSU!!"
Ridan shouted again, throwing spark-shaped magic puffs in the air like confetti.
