Chapter 39 - 33 Disneyland Distractions and Unexpected Clues

It was another Saturday afternoon in Geto's apartment.

Gojo Satoru lazily sprawled on the sofa, a black eye mask covering his eyes in place of his usual sunglasses. It helped block out the overwhelming amount of sensory information his brain processed constantly.

"Geto, are we really going to Tokyo Disneyland today?"

Geto glanced at him. "That's the plan. Why?"

Gojo sat up slightly. "Just wondering how Conan got involved in this."

"Because he's looking into the same case we are." Geto replied simply. "It makes sense for him to come along."

Conan, ever the mature high school detective in a child's body, ignored Gojo's casual questioning and got straight to the point. "Geto-kun, you said over the phone that you found a lead on the mastermind behind Chie Kojima's suicide attempt?"

"Yes," Geto explained. "On Monday night, Satoru and I met a girl named Kiichiro Sakura in Tokyo. She had the same type of cursed spirit attached to her as Chie Kojima."

"After observing her for a few days, we learned that her parents both work at Tokyo Disneyland. She goes there almost every day after school."

Conan pulled out his phone, did a quick search, and raised an eyebrow. "That's interesting. Disneyland was promoting Puzzle & Dragons a few days ago. Do you think Chie Kojima was there recently as well?"

Gojo sat up, rubbing his chin. "That would connect things pretty well. Guess we'll find out when we get there."

"Then let's not waste time." Geto grabbed his keys and put on his shoes.

Gojo stretched and stood up. "Alright, let's go. But we're stopping for strawberry daifuku on the way."

Geto sighed. "Didn't you just have some this morning?"

"It's already afternoon. That was ages ago." Gojo grinned. "Besides, Disneyland has long lines. We need to fuel up."

Geto shook his head but didn't argue. And so, after a detour for daifuku, the three of them finally arrived at Tokyo Disneyland three hours later.

Once inside, Conan wandered around with his camera, taking photos of various areas. After fifteen minutes, he stopped at a grassy section near the main plaza.

"According to the photos, this is where Puzzle & Dragons was promoted recently."

Gojo walked around the area but sensed nothing out of the ordinary. "No residual cursed energy."

Geto nodded. "The event ended a while ago. Any residual energy might have dissipated."

Conan frowned. "Even if we confirm that these cases are linked to the Puzzle & Dragons promotion, there are too many visitors here. It's hard to determine who might be affected."

"Unless we find a common trait among the victims," Geto agreed. "All three known victims are minors, but they attend different schools and don't know each other. The only common factors are that they play Puzzle & Dragons and, in Kiichiro Sakura's case, have been to Disneyland."

Conan folded his arms, pacing in thought. "There are too many Puzzle & Dragons players, especially among minors. We can't narrow it down this way."

Just then, Gojo suddenly perked up. "Oh?" He pulled off half of his eye mask, revealing one sky-like blue eye.

Geto and Conan both turned to him. "What is it?"

"I found a haunted house over there! Geto, I've never been to one before!" Gojo pointed ahead excitedly.

Geto groaned, his patience thinning. "Satoru, haunted houses are just cheap tricks for kids. You deal with real cursed spirits every day—what could possibly scare you?"

"But I can exorcise cursed spirits. I can't exorcise fake haunted house ghosts! If I punch one, Yaga-sensei will definitely make me copy the sorcerer's code again." Gojo argued.

Conan sighed, watching the two grown men (both over 1.8 meters tall) debate whether to enter a haunted house like excited children. "Fine, let's go in. It's not like we have any solid leads right now."

With that, the three of them walked into the haunted house without hesitation, completely forgetting the real purpose of their visit.

The haunted house receptionist, a young woman in a princess dress with a small red flower in her hair, stopped them at the entrance and pointed at Conan. "Sorry, he's too young. You need to sign a consent form and promise to hold his hand the entire time."

"Huh? That's a weird rule." Conan took the form and skimmed it but found nothing suspicious.

Gojo grinned and grabbed the form, quickly scribbling his name. "Okay, done!"

The receptionist examined his signature, then looked up. "Your name is... Gojo Satoru?"

"Yep. Want to check my ID?" Gojo asked, crossing his arms.

The receptionist's gaze lingered on his eye mask. "Is there something wrong with your eyes?" she asked, concerned.

"Nope, my vision is perfect. Can we go in now?" Gojo was losing patience.

"Oh! Yes, of course." She quickly pointed toward the entrance. "Follow the signs on the ground or walls—they'll guide you through."

As soon as they stepped inside, the lights dimmed, casting eerie green reflections on the damp walls. The three walked through a series of narrow corridors before entering a small, dusty room covered in cobwebs.

A white figure hung in the center of the room—a woman dressed in a Gothic white gown, her long tongue draped over her chin. She looked eerily like a traditional ghost.

The moment they entered, her blood-red eyes snapped open, and a chilling wail echoed through the room.

Conan curiously walked around the figure. "Is this a real person or an animatronic? It's too realistic."

Gojo smirked. "Have you ever seen a ghost before?"

"No." Conan answered instantly.

"Then how do you know she's realistic?" Gojo shoved his hands into his pockets.

Conan: "..."

At that moment, a couple entered behind them, and the woman screamed at the sight of the ghost.

The loud noise made Gojo wince. "Jeez, Geto, can I exorcise her?"

Geto sighed. "No, she's a person. You can't exorcise humans."

"But if she were an evil spirit—"

Conan: "?!"

Geto: "?!"
