Chapter 43 - 37 Cursed Fetus Case

Conan leaned back in his chair, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "The most important thing now is to find out the identity of this boy. Once we do, many questions will be answered."

Stretching lazily, Gojo Satoru glanced at the darkening sky outside. "Suguru, I've been running around all afternoon. Don't you think I deserve a reward?"

Checking his phone, Geto Suguru noticed the time—it was dinner. With a sigh, he stood up, nodding to Takuya Junko in farewell before leaving Disneyland with Gojo and Conan in tow.

"There's a famous restaurant nearby," Gojo said from behind them, hands tucked into his jacket pockets. "I hear their desserts are top-notch."

Geto sighed again, knowing that denying Gojo would only make things harder later. "Fine."

At the restaurant, Gojo ordered every dessert on the menu. The waiter, holding the menu with a strained smile, froze when Gojo added, "And put extra sugar in everything."

Conan, having grown used to Gojo's antics, didn't bother commenting on his sugar intake. Instead, he activated his bow-tie voice changer and dialed Inspector Megure.

"Hello?" Megure's familiar gruff voice answered.

"Inspector, it's Kudo Shinichi," Conan said, his childlike voice transformed into that of a teenage boy.

"Shinichi? Where are you?" A new voice cut in—Ran Mouri.

Conan winced. "Uh... Ran? Why are you with Inspector Megure?"

"Hah! The kid's in trouble now," Gojo laughed wickedly. "Jie would never sell me out like that, right?"

Geto rolled his eyes, too tired to respond.

"Shinichi? What's going on over there?" Ran's voice grew suspicious.

Scooting his chair away from Gojo, Conan kept his focus. "Ran, could you put Inspector Megure back on? I need his help with a case."

Grumbling under her breath, Ran returned the phone to Megure.

"What's the situation, Shinichi?" Megure asked.

"I need you to check the staff list from the recent Disneyland Puzzle & Dragons promotion," Conan explained while sending an MMS. "Look for anyone who brought a boy around twelve or thirteen. I've sent you a photo of him."

"Got it. I'll have my officers look into it," Megure promised before hanging up.

Half an hour later, Conan's phone rang.

"Shinichi, we found the boy," Megure's voice sounded tense. "But there's bad news—he was just discovered dead at home. No signs of foul play." He proceeded to give Conan the address.

At the same moment, Gojo's phone buzzed with a message from Yaga Masamichi:

[Go to Shinjuku 2-chome B-banchi C immediately. A special-grade cursed fetus was just discovered. Window is negotiating with the police to hand over the scene.]

"Hey, that boy's address isn't Shinjuku 2-chome B-banchi C, is it?" Gojo asked, frowning.

Conan froze, pen in hand. "How do you know that?"

Wordlessly, Gojo slid his phone over. Geto tapped his fingers against the table, his expression darkening. "What are the odds? Could the boy's death be linked to the cursed spirit?"

"Only one way to find out." Gojo leaned back, grinning. "Jie, you're coming with me, right?"

"Of course," Geto said without hesitation.

"I'm going too," Conan added firmly.

"Hey, kid, there might be something scarier than Sadako in there," Gojo teased, wiggling his fingers in mock menace.

Unfazed, Conan just sighed. "Cut it out, already."

"Satoru, quit messing around," Geto said, rising from his seat. "We need to move."

"Ugh, but there are still so many desserts left," Gojo protested, stuffing another piece of cake into his mouth.

"The cursed fetus could hatch any minute," Geto warned, his voice tight. "If it does, it'll be a real problem."

Gojo smirked. "Relax. You're strong enough to subdue it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a special-grade spirit under your command?"

Geto hesitated. Gojo's point wasn't entirely wrong, but exorcising the curse before it hatched was a safer bet.

Reluctantly, Gojo stood, casting a longing glance at the remaining sweets. He opened his mouth to ask for a takeaway box, but Geto cut him off. "You've had enough sugar. I'll make you dessert at home."

Perking up, Gojo slung an arm around Geto's shoulders. "You mean it? I want matcha Swiss rolls, caramel pudding, and all kinds of daifuku."

Ignoring him, Geto led the way outside. They flagged down a taxi and soon arrived at Shinjuku 2-chome B-banchi C.

As they stepped out, Geto immediately noticed a dense, murky fog hovering above the apartment complex. It clung to the air like a shroud, chilling the night to the bone. The cursed fetus was unmistakable.

Assistant Supervisor Kento Tomie, rubbing his hands for warmth, rushed to meet them. "Gojo-sama, we've evacuated most of the residents," he reported. "But there was a murder on the third floor. Two officers went inside about half an hour ago."

"Conan? Getsuyu-kun? Gojo-kun? What are you doing here?" A familiar voice rang out.

Turning, Conan stiffened as he saw Ran approaching with her father, Kogoro Mouri, and Inspector Megure.

Kento's instincts kicked in, and he stepped forward to block their path. "This area is restricted. Please stay back."

"Huh? Since when did you three start working for a special department?" Ran narrowed her eyes at Conan suspiciously.

Sensing danger, Conan immediately put distance between himself and the sorcerers. "I have no idea what's going on—I just happened to run into them!" he said, throwing Gojo and Geto under the bus without hesitation.
