Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 53: The Oathbound(2)
Chapter 53 - The Oathbound(2)
*A mere child dares to challenge Glacialis's apostle?*
"What?" My eyes widened, and a shiver ran down my spine. No, no, this is not possible!
[What happened, Noah?] Dante asked, concerned.
How can I understand him? How?
[What do you mean?]

In the game, whatever Arvax says cannot be understood by the player or the protagonist Raiden. Not only Arvax but also other dungeon bosses.
My knuckles turned white as my grip tightened around the hilt of the blade. Sweat trickled down from my face. This was different—all of it.
I have a very bad feeling about this fight.
Arvax's gaze narrowed over me. *Child, you look perplexed.*
"Of course, I would," I let out a small chuckle, but the sweat beads that dripped from my face told a different story. "A Draugr who can talk? That is not normal."
*You... Can understand me?*
"Yes, sir, great knight—I understand you." My voice wavered slightly, and a multitude of feelings rampaged inside me.
Anxiety?
Fear?
Excitement?
I don't know, but this guy here—he screams something that you couldn't feel when you play the game. A mere level 45 boss is now standing in front of me.
The one I beat a few times in the game. Not because I hated him or he was like too tough, it was because I chose the ice affinity like 2-3 times.
And I only beat him up because the helberd was fucking OP!
For ice users.
*Interesting...* He mumbled, his arms crossed together over his chest. *A human arrives in my lair after thousands of years—and he is just a mere child. But... A child who can understand me.*
*Lady Glacialis, is this the one you spoke of?*
"Hey! What are you talking about?!" I yelled, noticing that Arvax was talking to himself.
His eyes snapped back to me, a tinge of amusement in his deep voice. *Well, he is still a seed that is blooming.* Extending his arms forward, a blue light pulsed on his forearm. *Then I shall test him myself!*
The air around the whole room became frigid, colder.
A long obsidian shaft formed in his hands, wrapped with blue and silver trims. The front was attached with a crescent blade that resembled an axe and a spear-like tip that gleamed like crystals.
The rear of the shaft had a pointed end, like a spike frozen at the end.
It was the same as I had seen in the game.
The Vigil of Glacialis, Ardentfall.
*Child, hold your ground well—Because I, Arvax The Oathbound, won't go easy on you*
My lips twitched into a smile—a nervous one at that. I pointed the tip of my blade towards Arvax, accepting his words.
Accepting his challenge.
And with no words spoken, we charged towards each other. The whole room shook as he ran towards me, his halberd ready for a swing.
Whoosh!
I lowered myself, moving under his weapon. My gaze focused on his armour's joints, a weak point for a great warrior.
I held my blade back, gaining enough momentum for a swing. Silver light wrapped my entire frame, my blade crackled with purple lightning.
[Thunderclap Strike]
Booom!
The blast sent me flying a couple of metres, but my gaze never wavered from the purple explosion. If this were enough, he wouldn't be a boss.
And just as I predicted, he lunged. His armour plating only had a slight dent created by my spell.
*That was good, but not enough.*
He swung again in a wide arc, the tip barely missing my frame. But he did not stop, his swings continued, every one of them missing by inches as I rolled and dodged.
His strikes were fast and precise, as expected of a great knight. He swung his helberd like it was some stick that he had picked up from the floor.
It looked too easy in his hands.
Dodging his continuous swings, I fell backwards. I need a way to pierce that armour before I can use my attacks on him.
In the game, the strongest feature of Arvax, aside from the frostfire affinity, was the armour that he wore. It was made out of metal, or maybe ice, that was so strong that even Raiden's fire took some time to penetrate it.
Even my [Thunderclap Strike]—A spell that can literally get through the iron fur of an ironhide bear was only leaving a dent. And now, it is even powered by the storm god's legacy.
But it still failed.
*Why won't you fight back, Child?* He took deliberate, slow steps towards me, his orbs glowing with intensity that was not anger rather it looked like excitement.
A feeling I did not share.
"I don't know, maybe make it a bit easier for me?" I scoffed, but my eyes swept every corner of the room to find something—something that could pierce this guy's armour.
In the game, you had comrades specialising in different magics, but here I am.
A Lone Wolf.
[Noah, the chandeleir!]
My eyes drifted upwards as soon as those words left Dante's mouth. A smirk appeared on my face as a plan started formulating inside my head.
I can drop it on him.
But there was one problem—I needed to somehow make him stand in the middle room without any way for him to escape.
But I have a plan exactly just for that.
*What are you looking at, Child?* Arvax asked again, but this time he was not walking. His halberd was positioned in a thrust. A blue aura wrapped around with a refined output. *Escaping into your dreams won't make me disappear.*
He lunged forward, the helberd's tip cutting through the cold air. The cold tip missed me by a hair's breadth as I stepped aside.
Rotating on my heels, I swung my sword in an arc, aiming at his hands. But he moved his halberd, blocking the swing with its rear.
*Slow.*
I gritted my teeth, my hands tightened around the blade's hilt. He is not taking me seriously at all!
[Doesn't that work in your favour?]
It sure as hell does.
[Shadow Forge] I mumbled, the shadows beneath my feet moved, taking the form of a throwing knife in my hand.
*You can control your shadow?* He mused, the tip of the halberd pointed at me. *But that won't be enough.* He sprinted towards me, his weapon ready to swing.
But instead of meeting him head-on.
I ran.
As fast as I could, away from him. Classic souls game boss 101: Dodge till you land it. And also die a couple of hundred times, which is not possible for me.
*What are you planning, Child?* He followed after me, this was no longer a fight, but rather a game of tag, which leads to death if I get tagged.
*Fight me face-to-face!*
Right...
Ignoring him, I turned around, throwing the knife towards him. The blade flew towards him, only to be deflected by a flick of his wrist.
*Such tricks won't work against me.*
But that was his biggest mistake.
[Shadow mark] planted. I smirked, sprinting towards the middle of the room. Arvax followed right after me, his frame right below the huge white chandelier that loomed above.
I came to a halt, turning on my heel.
[Chains of Umbra]
