Legendary Beast Master: Starting with Contracting SSS Rank Dragon-Chapter 44: Ghast
Chapter 44 - Ghast
Kael once again activated his [Lightning Mantle], grabbed Kiona and ran at his full speed towards the end of the bridge. He could also see small stars forming there.
'Here comes the first round,' he thought.
The bridge was very narrow and there wasn't much room to dodge, so a barrage of fireball-induced arrows would cause him a lot of problems.
That was why he wanted to cross quickly as he didn't have any long-range attacks aside from [Dragon's Breath], and he didn't want to use it.
He ran and waited for the perfect timing, and just when he felt that the archers were about to launch the arrows, he opened his mouth as a high-pitched roar reverberated in the surroundings. It was much more powerful than the one Kiona released.
All the archers flinched and the bows that were pointed at him shifted. The archers couldn't stop themselves from releasing the arrows, as they all rained down in Kael's direction, but none of them hit him.
Kiona was paying attention to everything clearly since she was currently being carried around. At that moment, she noticed crimson circles forming in the distant group of skeletons.
She quickly alerted her master, "They are casting some spell, I think."
Kael frowned and tapped his foot, as he strained his muscles to the max to increase his speed even more. It reached to the point that Kiona began to feel her cheeks, as she felt chills due to the lightning around her.
On the other hand, Kael swore internally, 'I'm definitely getting a ranged beast under me after this.'
He hated the fact that he didn't have anything to deal with ranged opponents. The only thing close to it was [Storm Pulse], but its range was small.
He wanted to disrupt the spell, but it seemed his intimidation didn't work well at such distance. Just as he was contemplating about the ways he could get away from this, he noticed the mana fluctuations in the distance.
The crimson circles turned big and from it, a square-shaped white floating creature came out. Its head was very big, comprising of most of its body. Several tentacles like legs were dripping from its lower body, as if helping it in gliding in air.
"Ghast!" Kael instantly recognised the monster and knew this one was trouble, especially since it was a flying creature at the peak of E-Rank.
'Tsk! I can't even move around too much so its first attack will drown us,' Kael thought calmly, as he looked down at Kiona and asked, "Do you want to fly again?"
"Gladly," Kiona smiled, guessing what he had in mind.
Just then, the Ghast opened its mouth as an enormous fireball formed before its mouth, and it spat it out towards them. The fireball travelled incredibly fast that even Kael was having a hard time following it.
He trusted his instincts, put his mana in his feet and then using the momentum, he jumped as high and as far as he could. It proved to be the right choice as in the next second, the enormous fireball hit the stone bridge and demolished it in one go.
In mid-air, Kael witnessed it all but didn't waste any more time. He spun while holding the lioness in his hand and threw her towards the Ghast with his full strength.
That pushed him back towards the lava lake, but he quickly found a falling debris of the bridge and used it to jump again onto the stone bridge.
Meanwhile, Kiona resisted closing her eyes as the temperature was hurting even her, as she looked at the Ghast forming the fireball once again.
"Not so soon," she grinned and stretched her hand.
She was in an environment full of fire energy, so the moment she commanded the flames to gather into her palm, they obeyed as if she was their mistress.
The flames quickly condensed into a burning flame spear that she gripped tightly and shouted, "[Solburn Execution]."
Her muscles bulged as she launched the spear at the white monster she had never seen.
Perhaps because she had gathered the flames around her, the Ghast seemed to have some problems making the fireball. It tried to fly away from the spear's range, but it was very slow in doing so.
The spear crashed into the Ghast, producing a loud explosion that shook the surrounding air. The giant creature turned into ashes and was scattered in winds before it could even touch the lava lake below.
As for Kiona, she was falling back at a great speed. Just then, she sensed the danger behind her as she spun and used her claws to defend against the arrows.
The arrow blasted right on her face, even after being obstructed by her claw, making her blind for a second. She felt the heat on her back getting more uncomfortable.
'No! The clothes would get burned.'
This was a gift from her master, so how could she let them get destroyed like this. But there was little she could do while falling like this.
Just then, a strong hand grabbed her arm and using her momentum, swept her up and threw in a different direction. Her vision cleared up and the sight of dozens of skeletons came into her eyes.
A grin formed on her face, as she caressed her red hairs, letting the braids loose. Crimson yellowish flames erupted and covered all of her hair, as they flowed backwards similar to the lake below them.
This was the [Flamewake Mane] skill, but since she didn't have a mane, the target of defensive flames turned from her mane to her hairs.
This time, she directly descended onto the skeletons like a booming meteor and slammed into two skulls right away, as they flew in the air.
She didn't stop as she began to wreak havoc in their group. There were a dozen of the skeletons, but none of them had a brain to fight properly, not to mention most of them were archers and mages.
There were only three skeletons carrying broken, sharp swords, and Kiona was fighting while avoiding them. They weren't a threat to her individually, but she was fighting many skeletons all at once.
At that moment, a huge figure came crashing into one of the warrior skeletons and ripped the skull apart in one swift attack. frёeωebɳovel.com
He then proceeded to block the sword of another warrior skeleton using his sharp claws and sliced off its ribs with his lightning claws.
Just as the two warrior skeletons fell, he opened his mouth and let out a terrifying roar that disrupted the mana around him and also made the skeletons pause in their actions. The roar was much more effective now that he was in range.
Intimidation-type skills usually cost a lot of mana and also put strain on the throat, so Kiona didn't use hers. But Kael was different.
The brief moment was all Kiona needed to dismember the other skeletons. Her flaming rivers seemed to be completely under control as they defended and also dealt equal damage to the enemies.
After a few seconds, only the two of them were left standing in the middle of a small whirlpool of ashes.
All of a sudden, Kiona who had just stopped fighting clutched her head, as she muttered in a painful voice, "Master... I'm losing consciousness. I feel weird."
