With an ice pop in her mouth, Zhao Xuanwen zeroed in on her target and sprinted toward Liu Xiazhi.

Seeing her charging over, Xiazhi froze for a moment before turning to flee.

Unfortunately, longer legs meant faster running, and Xiazhi couldn’t escape Xuanwen’s grasp. She was tackled from behind, Xuanwen wrapping her arms tightly around her waist. Turning her head slightly, Xiazhi could clearly see the ice pop in Xuanwen’s mouth, sticking out just past her cheek.

Using one hand to pull the ice pop out of her mouth, Xuanwen locked Xiazhi in place with the other arm and grinned.

“Xiazhi! Long time no see! Did you miss me?”

“Daddy, help me!”

Xiazhi struggled fiercely.

Never underestimate someone’s potential in a desperate situation. Even though Xuanwen was much stronger, Xiazhi’s frantic resistance ultimately broke her free.

Once free, Xiazhi bolted like a wild horse, running straight to Liu Changqing, who had just stepped out of the car. She sidestepped to hide behind him, clutching his leg tightly as she shouted, “Why is she here?!”

Liu Changqing glanced at Xuanwen, who stood frozen with the ice pop still in her hand, and sighed helplessly. He patted his daughter’s head.

“She just wants to play with you.”

“I don’t want to play with her!”

“Alright, forget about that. Want an ice pop?”

Hearing this, Xiazhi blinked, her resistance momentarily forgotten. After standing outside in the heat for so long, she felt uncomfortably hot and nodded.

Liu Changqing went to the car’s backseat and retrieved two ice pops from the foam box, handing one to Xiazhi.

At that moment, he noticed Xuanwen had already moved on to Feng Shuyan, holding her tightly in her arms. Shuyan’s face was buried, and her small hands flailed helplessly.

“This one’s so adorable, too!” Xuanwen exclaimed.

“Alright, that’s enough!”

Walking over, Liu Changqing lightly tapped Xuanwen’s head with the ice pop in his hand. He didn’t use much force, but the gesture made her pout and let go of Shuyan with a slightly aggrieved expression.

Finally freed, Shuyan stood still, looking dazed as she gasped for air. Slowly regaining her composure, she glanced at Xuanwen and instinctively stepped back.

This person… is terrifying.

“It seems like nobody likes me…”

“If you’d stop hugging people out of nowhere, that might change,” Liu Changqing remarked, handing the second ice pop to Shuyan.

Still somewhat in a daze, Shuyan accepted the ice pop and softly said, “Thank you, chubby uncle.”

“I’ve lost a lot of weight. Call me ‘slim uncle,’ okay?”

“Okay, chubby uncle.”

“…”

Left speechless by the cheeky little girl, Liu Changqing gave up on correcting her and headed back to the car.

He stacked the foam boxes, lifted them, and carried them inside. Though the boxes were a bit heavy, they weren’t unmanageable.

Xiazhi, already eating her ice pop, quickly ran after him, skirting around Xuanwen and grabbing Shuyan’s wrist along the way.

“Let’s run!” she said.

“Okay!”

The two little ones hurried after Liu Changqing.

Carrying her backpack, Xuanwen stomped her foot in frustration before following with her ice pop in hand.

Inside, the employees were busy working. Liu Changqing placed the foam boxes down, clapped his hands, and drew everyone’s attention.

All eyes turned toward him. Clearing his throat, he announced, “I bought some ice pops for everyone. There’s a fridge here in the office, so each of you can take one for now. The rest can go in the fridge—help yourself if you want more later.”

“Thanks, boss!”

“Boss, you’re the best!”

“I’m eating ten!”

Liu Changqing quickly identified the person who shouted about eating ten. Shaking his head, he grabbed two ice pops and headed toward the small room that had been converted into a private office for An Yuanyao.

Carefully opening the door, he saw Yuanyao engrossed in her work, her gaze glued to the screen. She didn’t even notice him enter.

Walking softly, Liu Changqing approached and waved the ice pop in front of her face. The movement finally snapped her out of her focused state.

She stopped typing, turned to him with a curious look, and glanced at the ice pop. Taking it from him, she asked, “Back already?”

“Already? It’s been nearly half an hour.”

Pulling over a chair, Liu Changqing sat down and unwrapped his ice pop. Taking a bite, he relished the cooling sensation.

“How’s it going?” he asked, referring to the project.

“Not bad. But don’t you think the background buildings are too repetitive? They’re just recolored versions of the same design…”

“That’s fine. When it’s displayed on the handheld console, most players won’t notice the lack of variation.”

Taking another bite of his ice pop, Liu Changqing added, “Have one to cool off. It’s getting hotter by the day.”

Yuanyao nodded, unwrapped her ice pop, and tossed the wrapper into the trash can. Bringing the treat to her mouth, she took a small bite.

For a moment, Liu Changqing forgot about his ice pop, watching her quietly.

Noticing his gaze, Yuanyao tilted her head and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“N-Nothing… Just wondering if you’re okay with this kind. I didn’t get the creamy ones since these are better for cooling off.”

“They’re sweet and nice. I like them,” she replied, taking another bite.

Liu Changqing exhaled in relief and returned his attention to his own ice pop.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a figure half-hidden behind the doorframe. Zhao Xuanwen was leaning in, one eye blinking curiously, staring at him and his ice pop.

In a soft voice, she asked, “Uncle… can I have another one?”

“…”
