Madam, Please Behave-Chapter 297: Inner Thoughts
Chen Dafu tilted his head slightly, as if trying to recall something.
After a long pause, he finally spoke.
“I was actually planning a confession tonight…”
“A confession? To who?”
“A girl… pure, cute… she’s got these faint dimples when she smiles. Only thing is, she wore kind of thick clothes that day, so I couldn’t really tell what her chest looked like…”
“……”
“After spending time together, our relationship took a big leap forward. Yesterday, she finally gave me her number. I was planning to confess tonight, so I specially prepared fireworks…”
“Fireworks are banned in the city now. You know if you get caught, you’ll be detained!”
“Let me finish!”
“Alright… go on…”
Chen Dafu paused again, trying to piece together the terrifying event. He leaned back against the headboard, a pillow propped behind him, and looked down at his hands.
“I was hiding in the bike shed downstairs from her place. I was about to call her to come down, and then, once she showed up, I’d jump out and surprise her…”
“……”
“When she got startled, I’d grab her hand, and we’d run off together—to the spot I had set up in advance. Once we got there, I had people ready. All I needed to do was snap my fingers, and they’d light the fireworks. The fireworks would go whoosh into the sky, explode, and then I’d take out the ring I prepared…”
“Wait a sec. Let’s set everything else aside for now… You just got her number yesterday, and you were gonna propose with a ring?”
“What’s wrong with that? That’s how they do it on TV, right?”
“Sigh…”
Hearing Chen Dafu’s defense, Liu Changqing fell silent, shaking his head slightly. He didn’t even bother to explain, just raised his hand and gestured for Chen Dafu to continue.
And so, Chen Dafu kept talking.
“My whole plan was flawless. Who knew the moment I crouched down in that bike shed—before I could even pull out my phone—I got smashed on the back with a brick by some bastard outta nowhere!”
“Hmm… seems like the weapon was a brick.”
“But he missed my head the first time. I realized what was going on and bolted. I was running in front, he was chasing me like a madman, brick in hand, sprinting like crazy. Then I ran out of stamina and he caught up… and whack, nailed me in the back of the head.”
“Brutal. That attacker was ruthless. No morals at all.”
Liu Changqing threw in a token comment, then followed up:
“But I’m curious—did you see his face?”
“It was too dark. No streetlights in that area… but I did notice he was pretty tall, and he was wearing something like a tracksuit.”
“Tracksuits are good for movement. Yeah, guys like that usually wear them—it makes it easier to act. By the way, did you lose anything? Any idea what his motive was?”
“Something?”
Hearing that, Chen Dafu froze for a moment, then suddenly remembered something. He instinctively reached for his pockets, only to realize that his clothes had already been changed.
He looked up at Liu Changqing in a panic.
“My clothes! Where are my clothes?”
“You were curled up in a trash can—your clothes were disgusting. Of course we changed them.”
“My jade! When you changed my clothes, was my jade still in them?!”
He reached up to his neck but couldn’t feel the jade pendant. Panic instantly surged in his chest.
Seeing his reaction, Liu Changqing glanced at his neck—sure enough, no jade in sight. He quickly tried to calm him down.
“Don’t panic. It might’ve just fallen out somewhere. I’ll help you look for it later. Right now, the priority is—can you remember any distinguishing features about the guy who attacked you?”
Still on edge, Chen Dafu tried to focus, taking a few deep breaths and trying to calm down.
His brows furrowed as he tried to remember… but in the end, he just shook his head.
Seeing this, Liu Changqing went quiet too, his expression darkening.
This wasn’t good… The spot where Chen Dafu was attacked didn’t have much surveillance. And nowadays, security cameras weren’t as widespread. Plus, he hadn’t seen the attacker’s face…
This could be a real problem.
Liu Changqing pulled out his phone to check the time.
1:34 AM.
After taking Chen Dafu to the hospital, even though his head had been covered in blood, the doctor’s exam showed it wasn’t anything serious.
The doctor was even impressed—his skull was surprisingly tough. After taking a brick to the back of the head, he only had a bit of broken skin and some bleeding.
Still, just in case, Liu Changqing had called home but didn’t go back. He decided to stay and watch over him.
But now… seeing how he seemed more or less fine…
With that, Liu Changqing spoke.
“Well… Dafu, if you’re hungry, ask the nurse to get you something to eat. My wife’s still waiting for me at home, so I’m gonna head back.”
“Huh? You’re leaving already?”
“You’re doing alright, aren’t you? But don’t worry, I’ll come see you again tomorrow. I’ll also try to help you find your jade. And if we catch the guy who did this to you—I swear, I’ll beat the crap outta him for you!”
“Uh…”
Liu Changqing grabbed his car keys off the table, stood up, and walked toward the door, saying as he went:
“There’s still half a bag of sunflower seeds left. If you can’t sleep tonight, watch some TV, crack some seeds…”
With that, Liu Changqing opened the door and walked out.
As the door shut behind him, Chen Dafu stared at it blankly.
Saying nothing for a long while.
Back home, Liu Changqing unlocked the door with his key.
Because it was so late, he was careful to move slowly to avoid making noise.
Once inside, he gently closed the door, making sure the sound wouldn’t wake anyone. Only then did he let out a breath.
After changing into slippers, he took a few steps in and immediately saw An Yuanyao lying on the sofa.
She was on her side, a blanket draped over her.
Liu Changqing froze for a moment.
Once it registered, he quickly stepped over and knelt beside her, gently shaking her shoulder.
Under his touch, An Yuanyao slowly opened her eyes. When she saw Liu Changqing’s face, she looked dazed for a second—then suddenly threw her arms around him.
Feeling this, Liu Changqing hurried to hug her back. Before he could say anything, he heard her whisper:
“You weren’t home… I was so scared…”
“……”
That caught Liu Changqing off guard.
He had called An Yuanyao earlier to explain Chen Dafu’s situation after bringing him to the hospital. Maybe that’s what frightened her so much.
Thinking of that…
Liu Changqing looked around this familiar home, the one deeply etched in his memory…
The home he’d lived in since arriving in this world…
Yeah, it was about time.
Time to buy a new place.
