Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 214: No!
Chapter 214: No!
Twenty minutes later, Violet was still on her back, staring into blood-red eyes as she heard Cain grunt, pushing into her. Her arms were wrapped fiercely around his neck as she gasped just as loudly, her legs wrapped around his waist. The pleasure was electrifying, and the climax was even more riveting as she latched onto his arms with her fingers, her eyes tightly shut as she climbed over the edge with him at the same time.
Shocked, she felt him collapse into the bed beside her, both of them lying there, gasping for air. Her gaze fixed on the ceiling as she waited for him to speak, too much at a loss for words to bring up anything herself.
He didn’t speak, and it wasn’t until a long moment of silence that Violet finally garnered enough courage to break it.
"Ca-Cain!" she said softly, calling his name as she pushed lightly against him, several questions at the tip of her tongue.
Why are your eyes red?
What do you mean you have no memories of me?
Why do you smell faintly of blood even though it’s clear you’ve showered?
Questions she wanted to ask, but the memory of how he had lifted her into the air, ready to crush her windpipe, terrified her. She retracted her fingers before she could touch him, turning to the side to roll off the bed, hoping Cain would completely ignore her presence.
But she had just moved a couple of inches off the bed when she felt a heavy arm wrap itself around her waist.
"Where do you think you’re going?" a gruff voice whispered in her ear, pulling her back into the bed and onto his chest.
Violet immediately turned to look at him, shocked to notice that his eye color had returned to its usual golden brown as he stared right at her.
"Where are you going?" he asked, his voice softer as he pulled her closer, nuzzling his cheek against hers. But Violet wasn’t having it. Her shoulder was still bloody, and it hurt. The bruises around her neck weren’t any different as she pushed away from him, glaring at him.
"You strangled me! You were going to kill me!" she snapped, looking more intensely at him, almost as if she wasn’t sure if the Cain she knew was back, even if his eyes were no longer red.
A sinking feeling suddenly sprouted in her belly as she heard Cain shake his head ever so slightly in response.
"Me? Strangle you?" he asked in an incredulous tone, staring back at her as if she were saying something absolutely crazy. "I came in and kissed you, and we had—" He froze mid-sentence as his eyes suddenly settled on the bruises around her neck, which had turned purple, and the large bite mark on her shoulder that was still clearly bleeding.
Something Violet was thankful for as she glared at him.
"Your eyes turned red, and-and you were completely different!" she told him, watching his gaze slide over her body.
"You-you killed him!" Her voice was lower and more passionate as she pointed at the dead body by the door, which she couldn’t bring herself to look at. Tears flooded her eyes as she spoke, recalling how Cain had been willing to do the same thing to her.
"You-you could have killed me!" Her voice was deeper, filled with silent horror as she spoke with a gasp, staring deeply at him, her hands trembling as she sat on the bed, completely naked—something she couldn’t bring herself to care about at that moment.
"I-I’ll fix it! It won’t happen again!" Cain responded, though a slight look of confusion and doubt crossed his face as he spoke. "I won’t hurt you a—"
But Violet interrupted before he could finish. "Ho-how can you be so sure?" she asked, her eyebrows scrunched together, a huge frown plastered on her face.
"We—you don’t even know what’s wrong!" she gasped, aware more than anyone that an illness was something that could be fixed, but whatever was happening to Cain wasn’t something that could be covered up with a bandage.
For a full moment, nothing but silence filled the room as they both stared at each other, neither opening their mouths to speak, even though it was clear they both had a lot more they wanted to say.
Violet still wanted to distance herself from him and would have if her gaze hadn’t shifted to the wall, immediately recalling the way Uva had simply walked right through it.
Instead of backing away, this time, crawling on all fours, Violet moved closer to him, placing her hand tentatively on his shoulders. She felt his gaze bore into hers, surprised when he leaned in, pulling her right into his lap before she could speak.
"I’ll be careful! No matter what, I can’t kill you!" he promised, and Violet simply nodded, intent on focusing on the issue she was about to bring up—one that made her heart begin to pound faster in her chest.
It had been horrifying to feel him strangle her, and it had been even scarier to watch him stare at her with cold, emotionless eyes. It made her recall why she had chosen to run in the first place.
Can a killer who doesn’t care about human life truly care about someone else? Scared to think too deeply about what the answer might be, she leaned into him, placing her head on his shoulder. Both of them were naked, skin to skin, as she felt every inch of him beneath her.
"Ca-Cain!" she began, her eyes focused on her hands as she balled them into fists, continuing to speak, knowing that the worst he could do was strangle her again. "I spoke to Uva, and I think it’ll be good if she taught me a couple of things!" she said, noticing the tension that suddenly filled the air as Cain shifted his body, the intensity of his stare increasing.
"...Just harmless things, like walking through walls and stuff like that. Nothing harmful!" she said, turning to look at him, wanting to do her best to convince him that it would be something good. But she froze as she met his gaze, which was so icy she would have jumped off his lap if she hadn’t been paralyzed by fear.
His expression was dark, and if not for the fact that his eyes were still golden brown, she would have assumed his personality had shifted again.
Gritting her teeth, she refused to back down and was just about to speak when Cain cut her off, fixing stormy eyes on her and speaking in a tone that brooked no argument.
"NO!"
