Chapter 236: Fuel

It didn’t take long before the guard came back with the box in his hands, which he handed to Eldric.

Fiona couldn’t take her gaze off it as she watched her father snap it open to reveal numerous bottles, including some she recognized and even possessed, and others she had never seen before. freewebnσvel.cøm

Picking out a red one, he handed it over to her before snapping the box shut and handing it back to the guard, who immediately departed.

"That’s it!" Fiona said, stamping down the urge to ask if this was truly the antidote, aware that it would only anger her father further and sour their already fragile relationship.

"Thank you, Father!" she immediately said, thanking him vigorously the second she received the red potion in a vial.

"I’ll drop you off," Eldric said in a light tone. Fiona’s body stiffened again when she heard him speak, only to hear him chuckle in response.

"You carry the heir to this district, my grandchild! I have no reason to kill William anymore," he pointed out, emphasizing that the child would inherit. As a werewolf with a long lifespan, he could afford to wait. Moreover, there was no longer any reason to continue being enemies with William.

Fiona couldn’t help but hesitate even as she nodded, clenching her hands around the potion before getting into the car with Eldric, who sat beside her.

Her heart raced louder than ever before, expecting at any moment for the car to suddenly change direction and head elsewhere, only to be surprised as it continued toward William’s house.

Her expression relaxed the closer they got, realizing with a measure of relief that her father was indeed being honest with her—which meant the probability that the potion in her hand was real had increased.

"...Careful with that!" Eldric suddenly spoke, the sound of his fingers drumming against the car door audible.

"...There’s only one of it!" he told her, watching as she immediately nodded and held it even more carefully than before.

Eldric turned his face to the side, staring out the window as a soft smile played across his lips, one that held a cruel glint of amusement.

William is dying, and not even the antidote can prevent that! Eldric thought to himself, imagining William’s expression when he saw it.

When he saw them...

It can prolong his life, but for barely a few weeks! He knew that giving him the antidote at this point was even crueler than before.

Humming under his breath, he turned to look at Fiona with a soft expression on his face.

"How have your hospital visits been? You’re well?" he asked, satisfied to see her immediately respond with a strong nod.

"Yes, Father! I am!" she beamed, and Eldric nodded his head.

Getting rid of it should be easy when the time comes! he thought, intent on using the baby to gain control of William’s district if possible, before proceeding to MAKE Fiona pregnant with Cain’s child—even if both of them had to be drugged.

I adopted you for a reason, you fucking idiot! You think you can ruin my long-crafted plans? He scoffed inwardly, knowing that the difference between William’s weak bloodline and Cain’s own was like the difference between heaven and earth.

Soon, the car finally arrived at the gates of the mansion. The guard stepped forward to check, and Fiona hurriedly lowered the window to show her face.

She had expected shock or exasperation when they saw her, but she was taken aback to see a tinge of hatred in their eyes as they waved the car in... looking at her like she was the worst dirt beneath their shoes.

This confused her, but the excitement of having the vial in her hand was greater than whatever emotions they harbored, and she didn’t care.

She got down from the car the second it parked, as did Eldric, who adjusted his clothes with a mostly blank expression, waiting impatiently for William to appear—which didn’t take long.

Fiona had just stepped closer to the entrance, beckoning her father in, when William stepped out with a bloody blade in his hand. Red spots covered his arms as he emerged from the entrance.

He had a calm look on his face, but something about him made Fiona immediately step back in alarm as she stared at him.

Calling out his name softly, she kept her gaze fixed on the blade in his hand.

"Wi-William!" she whispered, even as he ignored her completely, setting his gaze on Eldric, who leaned against his car as if he hadn’t just entered William’s mansion with barely two percent of the number of guards William had.

"GET OUT!" William ordered fiercely, but Eldric wasn’t about to entertain him. Instead, he immediately began to speak.

"Is this how you treat your benefactor?" he asked, gesturing to Fiona—but more accurately, to the potion in her hand, which she immediately raised with an expression of glee as she moved toward William to show him.

Only to freeze in place as she felt his stormy gaze fix on her.

"William, it’s the antidote!" she choked, tears in her eyes. The fear that had plagued her evaporated as she realized that once he took it, he would be well, he would recover, and then they could be happy.

But she had just spoken when a loud scoff escaped his lips. He stared at her as one would stare at a fool.

It was even worse when he went ahead to say it to her face in front of everyone present.

"You’re a fucking fool, aren’t you?" he asked.

Eldric, still leaning against his car, had to raise his hand to his face to hide the smile that surfaced, his eyes twinkling with excitement.

Not sure how things would turn out, but confident that it would be in his favor.

Fiona was taken aback by William’s words. It hurt even more because she could tell he meant it.

Her father calling her an idiot was one thing, but coming from her lover, for whom she had just risked her life in a way... her pride couldn’t take it.

As usual, Fiona stood tall and proud. She had been brought up not to cower to anyone, and she couldn’t accept this—especially not in front of her father.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" she asked, stepping closer to William, ignoring the blood stains on him and the blade in his hand. Only to be taken aback when, instead of responding to her, he spoke again to Eldric.

"GET OUT!" he ordered, then gestured to the guards before issuing another command.

"Burn the cars if they refuse to leave!"

The guards instantly responded, heading off to fetch fuel, but Eldric simply chuckled to himself.

Shaking his head slightly, he stepped closer, watching as William tightened his grip on the sword.

Aware that the only reason William hadn’t attacked and killed him in his mansion was the fear that word would spread, and the other Council Lords wouldn’t allow such an act to go unpunished.

If it could happen once... it could happen again.

Instead, Eldric stepped even closer to Fiona, leaning down to kiss her cheek with an affectionate look on his face, all while feeling William’s gaze burn into him.

"Take care of yourself," he told her, lowering his tone in a way that even werewolves would struggle to discern, as he only whispered the first half of each word.

"Rea- ou-!"

Then he backed away, heading to his car where his guard was already waiting with the door open.

Eldric got in, followed by his other bodyguards, and they immediately drove off, even as William’s guards made a show of bringing huge kegs of fuel. But Eldric’s mind was elsewhere as he picked up his phone and dialed a number, placing it against his ear.

"Round up the men in charge of midnight raids! Yes, the quiet kind that are great at assassinations."

"What do I need them for? Oh... just something small," he replied before hanging up, settling back into his seat, humming a tune under his breath as he gently tapped his fingers against the car door, staring out the window.

Fiona was still boiling even after she bid her father goodbye and watched him leave through the gates.

Her gaze fixed on William, who stared back at her with a look that could only be described as disgust.

This, of course, only infuriated her even more, but instead of lashing out at him in public, she simply walked past him, entering the house while carefully holding the potion in her hands. She gripped it in a way that, even if she was bumped into, it still wouldn’t break.

Again, it was hard not to notice the looks she got from the servants, who regarded her with the same expression she had seen on the guards’ faces.

Fiona didn’t know why, and at that moment, it was the last thing she cared about as she walked up the steps and headed straight to her room.

She wanted to store the potion away properly and get ready for the huge argument she and William were about to have, even as she wondered to herself where the blood on his body had come from.
