Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 257: Trail Of Blood
Chapter 257: Trail Of Blood
Fervor instantly turned his gaze to look at Fiona, whose head was still hanging low to her chest. He scanned her body with his eyes to ensure that she was fine, only to find nothing wrong—which only worried him even more. Fixing his eyes back on Eldric, who simply smirked at him, Fervor had already had enough.
"You have what you need!" he announced, pointing at the folders in their hands, even as he moved toward the door to leave.
"I’m leaving!" he said, already walking toward the door, much to the annoyance of everyone else. They all watched as Fiona instantly moved to follow him.
"You can’t leave!" Harriet snapped in a loud tone, stepping closer as if trying to physically stop him.
"We still haven’t decided what to do with Lord Cain!" she said, making it clear that he was going against one of their unwritten rules.
But Fervor was barely listening, his focus still intensely on Fiona. He noticed a slight frown appear over her crouched figure, even with the hood back over her face.
...You can mail it to me when you’ve all decided! he thought, not once slowing down his gait as he continued to head out through the double doors of the council meeting room, with Fiona behind him and the guard he had brought.
Seeing him leave, the others couldn’t remain idle. They instantly followed him out, with Grainger and Magnus, who seemed dissatisfied, also looking like they were about to leave. They all watched as Fervor hurriedly got into the car and drove off.
Harriet turned to speak to Eldric, a slightly surprised expression on her face.
"You would allow someone like that—who did such a thing to your daughter—to take her away?" she asked incredulously, even as Eldric maintained a sad expression and shook his head.
"You saw her! She’s already under so much pressure. I’m just trying to look out for my grandchild," Eldric said in a low, concerned tone.
Harriet nodded as she listened to him, her gaze still fixed on Fervor’s car, which was still in sight, driving out of the mansion grounds they all stood in.
Completely missing the smirk that flashed across Eldric’s face as he mentioned his grandchild, and the sneer that accompanied it.
If you can’t be useful to me, then you might as well be useless to everyone else! he thought to himself, balling his hands into fists to hide the dark stain on his fingers as he watched everyone begin to disperse. He prepared himself to do the same.
Fervor had just ordered the driver to drive when he turned to look at Fiona, who sat beside him, hugging the door as if she would like nothing more than to pull it open and flee. The dark hood was back on her face, and with the way she continued to stare at her lap, he couldn’t see her face. But his ears were sharp enough to hear the faint groan that suddenly emanated from her throat.
Her fingers clasped tighter against the handle of the door in a way he didn’t like.
"Are you okay?" Fervor asked, his expression still stiff and cold as usual, as he spoke from the right corner of the car’s backseat where he sat. He was completely ignored, as if he had been speaking to thin air.
This time, a faint frown appeared on his face as he repeated himself, only for his expression to darken when he was ignored again.
"Are you okay?"
Fiona’s gaze remained fixed on her lap as she clenched the door handle tighter. Finally, she raised her head.
"My-my stomach slightly hurts!" she complained, her voice filled with pain, even as she ensured that the hood over her head was still in place.
At that point, Fervor no longer cared about being polite. He simply pulled the hood off her head, staring directly at her shocked and stunned face. She scrambled to put it back on, but he held her gaze with such intensity that she couldn’t help but fidget, lowering her head and forgetting about the hood.
"What’s wrong?" he asked, since it was clear that she was in pain.
A pause, a silence that showed Fiona’s unwillingness to answer, only for her to open her mouth the next instant, her voice dripping with more agony than before.
"My-my stomach hurts!" she belted out, which only deepened the slight creases of a frown on Fervor’s face. He turned to the driver, barking new instructions.
"Head to the hospital! Hurry!" he ordered.
As much as he wanted to leave Eldric’s district first, he knew better than to ignore whatever was wrong with Fiona. The last thing he needed was for her to lose the baby—something neither of them could afford. Not only would he no longer be Guardian, and William’s district would be shared among the other lords, but they would also come for him. Without enough men...there was barely anywhere he could run where he wouldn’t be found.
The driver had just pressed hard on the accelerator, driving faster than before, when Fiona groaned out in pain, louder this time.
"AHHH!" Her cry was loud enough to show that something was indeed wrong. Sweat began to drip down her face as she continued to tightly clench her fists in pain. She even raised her head—something she wouldn’t usually do—and turned to look at Fervor.
"Something is wrong! Something is really wrong!" she gasped.
Fervor simply nodded with a blank look on his face as he sat beside her. He didn’t respond, instead turning to look outside the car.
...Even if something is wrong, it has to wait until we get to the hospital, he thought, ignoring the rest of her groans and cries until the car stopped in the parking lot. He instantly pulled the door open, turning around to drag her out and lead her inside.
Even if Eldric had given instructions to all the doctors there, Fervor had brought his own. His doctor could keep an eye on whatever they did.
But the thought was still going through his mind as he pulled her out of the car when his entire body suddenly went completely still. He sniffed, his gaze trailing down to her legs, to the exact place where he caught the faint smell of blood lingering on Fiona.
Thick enough to make a deep frown appear on his face just as he looked down and saw it leaking down her legs.
The very next second, just as he pulled her out of the car, he immediately pushed her right back in, to her complete bewilderment. She struggled to come to terms with what was going on.
