Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 259: Meeting a Coven Witch
Chapter 259: Meeting a Coven Witch
Without wasting any more time than they already had, Violet instantly asked Henry to get what the witch asked for. As long as the babies weren’t going to die, it was a price she could definitely pay, considering the fact that the consequences were steeper than she could afford.
While Henry was off, Violet began to dress up in the room, satisfied to see that Cain’s beast no longer moved as close to her as before. Although she tried hard not to show it, after the attack she had experienced, her body constantly felt like it was in fight-or-flight mode.
"We can go now!" Violet said the second she was done dressing in black pants and a black shirt. She took a second look at herself to ensure that nothing was wrong before turning to Uva, who stood impatiently by the door.
"The sun is setting! The faster we go, the faster we can return!" Uva said, standing in front of the broken-down entrance of the room, warily staring at the beast that lay on the ground not far from Violet.
"Okay!" Violet responded with a concerned expression as she glanced at the beast, which lay on the floor with a morose look on its face.
"Is it—is it really fine to leave him?" Violet asked, worried beyond words about returning only to find destruction and carnage instead of the intact mansion they were leaving behind.
But instead of responding, Uva sent a look at Violet.
Would you like to take him along? The silent question hung in the air, and Violet understood it from the look Uva gave her.
Uva repeated what she had said. "The faster we leave, the faster we can return!" She shifted back and forth on her feet, her gaze darting back to the beast the second it turned its head to look at her. She felt an even more urgent need to leave and get what they needed to turn Cain back—and to keep herself alive.
Violet nodded and instantly moved to leave the room, but not before she turned toward Cain’s beast. She went closer to touch its head, whispering to it with the hope that he could hear her.
"Please! Just wait until I come back! Once I get back, everything will be better!" Her eyes pleaded, aware that if Cain’s beast went berserk, it would be completely over for him—he would no longer be able to become human, and for her...since she would also be killed.
She stayed there for a few seconds, rubbing the fur on his head, before slowly backing away and fully turning around to leave.
She had just reached the entrance when a loud, ear-splitting roar belted out of his throat, shaking the ground they stood on. Violet was alarmed, and Uva, who had fallen to the ground, was already crawling away as fast as she could.
Both of them were on the verge of bolting off, only to pause when they realized that although Cain had growled, he hadn’t moved a step from where he lay.
They both took a huge sigh of relief, dashing off the next instant with more urgency in their gait as they walked out of the mansion.
The guards in the mansion were already aware of what was going on, and considering the fact that their lord was indisposed, it was only natural that they would listen to Violet, his lover. It also helped that Henry, the head of the elite guards, didn’t hesitate to obey her.
Uva and Violet got into the car, with Uva giving the driver instructions on where to go. It wasn’t too far, but by the time the car stopped in the lower part of the district—where Violet had grown up, in an even more secluded area she hadn’t dared to go to—Violet couldn’t help the trace of fear in her heart.
She began to wonder if Uva had also betrayed her and if, while they were there to get something...she was probably what was being sold.
It wasn’t until Henry arrived a few minutes later, getting out of the car with a few heavily armed guards, that she slowly relaxed—but not completely.
Henry moved straight toward her the second he got out of the car, carrying a box in his hands. Violet could feel her heart thumping as she watched him open it to reveal two large bottles of red liquid, which she was convinced was blood. She tried not to think about the process that had gone into extracting it from two-year-old babies.
Werewolf babies were good at regenerating, but that didn’t mean the pain and stress on their small, tiny bodies were also reduced.
"Is it here? I brought a couple of guards with me, just in case!" Henry said, sending a suspicious look at Uva, though he didn’t say a word. He had an idea of who they were meeting, but it wasn’t beneficial for him to know more. He was simply more wary of Uva, whom he had thought was a normal maid, only to find out that she somehow had such nefarious connections.
"We should go in!" Violet finally said after a few moments of Henry staring at Uva, who didn’t even pay him any mind. Her entire focus was on the building in front of them, coupled with a slight trace of fear on her face, which worried Violet more than what they were about to do.
But she had just spoken when Uva began to move forward, much to Violet’s immense relief, as she followed behind her. Henry moved behind both of them, carrying the box, as they stepped through the door of the eerily dark building.
Not only was the outside of it completely thrown into darkness, but the inside seemed just as dark as they stepped in, closing the door behind them. A small flicker of light on the edges of the room cast multiple shadows over the walls.
Violet was still wondering what was going on and where the person they were to meet was when she suddenly and unexpectedly heard Uva open her mouth to speak.
"Greetings, Saurine," she said with her head bowed, as one would when bowing to a District Lord. This surprised Violet, who almost did the same until she realized that Henry didn’t so much as lower his lashes. His eyes widened even more as he looked around in slight confusion, clearly unhappy at having missed the presence of whomever Uva had addressed.
But silence had just settled among them, even as Violet began to consider whether Uva had been mistaken, when a low, feminine voice suddenly echoed through the room.
"A witch! That’s surprising! Even more...one who hasn’t awakened. That’s rare!"
The voice was low, but there was a calmness about it that made anyone who heard it feel like the speaker was someone they should trust and who wouldn’t harm them. Something Violet would have believed if Uva, who stood beside her, wasn’t doing her best to hide her trembling hands—and failing horribly at it.
"We brought what you asked for!" Violet responded, aware that the witch was speaking about her, even if Henry, unaware, was staring at Uva with an even more wary gaze that looked so sharp it seemed intent on cutting her open and finding out what was inside her body—or at least the identity she hid.
"Place it on the table!" the voice said again, this time from a different side of the room than where it had previously come from. This was surprising, as no other sound could be heard in the dark restaurant they seemed to stand in the center of.
There were many chairs and tables lined against and beside the walls, and everything looked old and dusty, showing that the restaurant hadn’t been used for anything relating to food in a very long time.
Having heard what the voice said, Henry didn’t hesitate to step forward with a stony, professional look on his face as he placed the box on the table before stepping back instantly, right next to Violet—as close to her as possible, to ensure that even if something happened, he would be able to get to her and protect her in time.
