Chapter 261: Feral?(2)

The car had just driven off when Uva heaved a huge sigh of relief, raising her hands to wipe the sweat dotted across her forehead. Violet held back the smile that threatened to flash across her face.

"Are you okay?" Violet asked, noting the way Uva folded her hands together. Her shoulders no longer subtly trembled, but deep in her eyes, there was still a wariness as she leaned further into her seat.

Instead of answering Violet’s question, Uva simply dug her hand into her pocket and carefully brought out the vial they had been given, filled to the brim with a dark, pitch-black liquid.

"I could try and experiment on it first!" Uva mumbled to herself, frowning as she realized it would take too long. It didn’t help that time wasn’t on their side.

"She—from her voice, she seems trustworthy!" Violet pointed out. She hadn’t seen who was speaking, but the voice was enough for her to judge the speaker as a cool and gentle person.

But Violet was barely done speaking when Uva instantly scoffed, a half-sneer on her face as she shook her head vigorously.

"That’s even more reason for you not to trust her! Moreover, she’s a high coven witch!" Uva continued, a trace of anger in her tone as she spoke. She allowed her words to trail off, turning her head to the side as she stared out the car window while they zoomed off straight to the mansion.

The journey back was even faster, with Henry driving at a much quicker pace—though not fast enough to endanger their lives. The destination was Cain’s mansion, and as curious as Violet was to see the vial up close, she was also aware that it would be better to let Uva handle it.

But the car had barely driven through the gates when they heard the mansion alarms blare. Fear spiked from deep within their chests as Henry accelerated deeper into the mansion.

Violet and Uva exchanged a look with one another, dashing out the second the car stopped as they rushed straight to the entrance, only to be taken aback by the servants and guards rushing out in droves.

"It’s killing people! It’s fucking killing people!"

"IT’S A MONSTER!" another screamed as panic and chaos filled the air. Servants and even the guards dashed in different directions.

Violet wanted to dash forward but paused, turning around to look behind her as she realized that Uva had stopped a few steps away, a look of complete and utter fear on her face.

"If he’s feral...we should run!" Uva said honestly, having lived too long to risk her life for someone who would rip her apart, whether in his human form or beast form.

"...But the—" Violet began to speak, only to be interrupted by a bone-wrenching growl that seemed to shake the ground beneath them. The sound was loud enough to erect even more walls of fear in their hearts as Violet fixed her gaze on Uva.

"But the vial! It should work, right?!" Violet urgently asked, only to hear Uva say the exact thing she had been thinking—a problem she couldn’t think of a good solution for.

"Yes, it should! But how are you going to get him to drink it? This potion won’t work unless ingested. That much I know!" Uva told her, stretching out the vial toward Violet the next moment. At that point, she no longer cared what Violet decided to do; all she wanted was to flee.

"When you—" but Violet didn’t let her finish, dashing toward her and grabbing her by the arm.

"Are you really going to let me go up there by myself?"

"Henry will go with you!"

"You know spells...you can help!" Violet barked back, and Uva couldn’t help but regret not teaching Violet any yet as she continued to shake her head. She ignored the suspicious look Henry directed her way, even as he remained quiet, standing there like a tree waiting for the wind to know which direction to bend.

"No! I refuse!" Uva snapped back, a subtle anger in her voice as she jerked her arm away from Violet and took a couple more steps back.

"Nothing is worth risking my life—" freёnovelkiss.com

"A reward! Can you imagine what Cain would give you in exchange for saving his life?" Violet asked the second the idea popped into her head. She wasn’t surprised to see Uva pause, especially when she noticed how Uva’s gaze kept wandering to the box Henry had held just before he handed it over to the witch.

"Don’t you think newborn blood would be the least of it?" Violet pressed.

Uva didn’t respond, a huge frown spreading across her face as she stared intensely at Violet, still teetering on the verge of rejecting the idea when Henry suddenly spoke.

"Think of all the things you could get! Isn’t it worth risking your life a bit for?" he said, regretting his words a second later when Uva’s gaze instantly darkened, showing that she didn’t agree. The intensity in her eyes revealed that she was still ready to dash away, and the last thing she wanted was to continue listening.

"You can always escape through walls by yourself if things go badly!" Henry pointed out, mentioning something Uva was already aware of but couldn’t admit.

Her blood magic was low—extremely low. Especially after she had used it to cast a disease on Violet’s family. Her bloodline was weak, and even if she wanted to, she could only walk through walls at most twice and nothing more.

All her potions had been kept in her room before they left, for fear that the witch would also ask for them, which made her frown deepen even more as she slightly nodded her head.

"Fine!" she called out, stepping closer to Violet, who instantly looked relieved.

"...But I’m staying at the very back!" Uva pointed out, aware that while the beast was eating the rest of them, she could flee. Her thoughts were clear in a way that she didn’t even try to hide.

With no more time to spare and each of them wanting to get things over with as quickly as possible, the three of them made their way inside. The silence that suddenly descended was even more terrifying than the loud growls that echoed through the building.

The huge pathways and corridors were empty in an eerily creepy way. Most of the servants and guards were gone, and the ones that remained were Cain’s personal elite guards, who surrounded Violet and Uva at Henry’s orders.

They obeyed instructions but couldn’t hide the reluctant look in their eyes as Henry ordered them to begin climbing the stairs.

It was almost as if they knew they were climbing to their deaths, and a part of them couldn’t help but rebel against it.

Is our lives worth less than theirs? some of them thought, carefully sending dark looks at Violet and Uva, who seemed to be the most useless.

Collectively, their hearts thumped wildly in their chests as they all realized that unless Cain’s beast had returned to himself, the chance of them all being wiped out was closer to a hundred percent.
