Chapter 275: Jumped (TW)

Fiona’s eyes had just popped open when she instantly squinted in pain. Raising herself off the bed the next instant, she tried to figure out where she was.

The room was familiar—it was clearly hers, the one William had given her in his mansion. The problem was the medical equipment littered along the edges of the bed.

She stared intently at them before looking down at her hands, which had a small medical tube inserted into her skin. A small frown instantly appeared on her face as she continued to stare blankly at it for a few seconds.

She still found it difficult to remember how she had gotten there, unable to recall walking back herself.

On the other hand, she remembered the pain she had felt in her stomach and the conversation she had with Fervor, which was the last thing she remembered. Her hands darted immediately to her stomach, coupled with a fearful expression on her face.

Her immediate response was to pull out the tube attached to the back of her hand, even as she scrambled off the bed. She grabbed tightly onto it to keep herself standing the second she felt a wave of dizziness hit her the moment she tried to get up.

But her feet had barely touched the floor when the door of her room was instantly swung open before she could understand something else that was really wrong—especially the huge padded linen she wore between her legs, which hadn’t been there before. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"Lady Fiona! You need to get back to bed! The procedure has just—" The servant who had just barged in, still speaking with a worried expression on her face, suddenly raised her hands and clamped them over her mouth with a look of astonishment, as if she had just said something she absolutely shouldn’t have.

"Procedure?" Fiona asked with a serious expression on her face. Her face paled a second later as she instantly hiked her clothes up, looking down at her underwear without so much as caring about anything else.

Not even the need to cover her face, which had been the first thing she wanted to do the second she woke up, having been looking around with her eyes for her cloak to cover the horrible scars on her face.

"What procedure?" she asked, pulling down her underwear to check why she was wearing a huge pad, only for her face to pale even more at the sight of blood. That very moment, she dropped her clothes back to their former positions before striding towards the door.

Fiona was terrified at the thought of what it could be, but the servant looked even more scared as she instantly stepped into her path, blocking her with both hands stretched out.

"You-you can’t!" she gasped with a look of anxiety rather than concern on her face.

"Lord Fervor’s instructions were to make sure you rested in bed!" the servant stammered, leaving out the other part of the instruction, which she was yet to carry out.

Call me the second she wakes up! Don’t leave her side!

But the servant had just opened her mouth to speak again only to watch Fiona step closer, the scars on her face more frightening in close contact than before, even as Fiona didn’t even care to lower her gaze.

"What procedure?" she asked for the second time, but the servant’s lips could only tremble in anxiety as she looked back at Fiona, unable to answer.

It was clear what procedure it was, and she knew that Fiona probably knew, but the servant didn’t dare to say it out loud. Aware that apart from her and Lord Fervor, no one else knew.

If it were to spread... or by chance, someone was eavesdropping, wouldn’t that mean that she would instantly lose her life? Lord William was a bad lord, but even while he was alive, everyone knew that Lord Fervor wasn’t any better, especially since he was much colder.

The last thing Huria wanted to do was step on his toes.

"Lady Fiona, I promise that if you—" she said, still speaking, only to watch as Fiona pushed her aside, stepping past her and out the door with such haste that by the time Huria recovered from the shock, Fiona was already speeding past her and up the stairs straight towards William’s office—the only place she felt Fervor would be.

Tears filled her eyes the closer she got, which made her break out into a half-run, unable to bear the thought that not only had she lost her beauty and all she held dear, but the baby she had decided to live for was also gone.

A moment later, she was barging through the doors of an office she knew so well, just before the guards standing in front of it could open their mouths to speak and ask if she would like to be announced.

Fiona marched in with tears in her eyes, wearing a white gown that she had clearly not been wearing before, barefoot. Her hair was also very messy, and the longer she stayed without a cloak over her head, the more she felt like she would like nothing more than to bury herself.

Inside the office was Fervor, who was sitting at the table, writing vigorously and going over whatever was written in them with a blank look in his eyes, even though the way his pen moved showed how dissatisfied he was by whatever he was dealing with.

He was still scribbling when suddenly the door was flung open.

His instinct was to raise his head, but even then, he didn’t look shocked by what he saw as he watched her stride in with tears in her eyes.

His face was blank, almost like whatever she felt or was about to say didn’t concern him, but still, he sprang up from his seat and walked towards her. But by then, Fiona was already raising her voice at him, her fists clenched by her sides.

"WHAT PROCEDURE?" she screamed right at him, loud enough for her voice to echo around the office and beyond it.

But she had just done that when Fervor, instead of stopping, simply walked right past her and headed towards the entrance of the office, almost like he was about to walk out, to Fiona’s shock and unbridled rage.

Only to settle back down as she watched him whisper something to the guards, who instantly bowed and left before slamming the door right back, ensuring that whatever conversation they were about to have was going to be private and not heard.

But Fervor had just turned back to look at her with both hands in his pockets, an almost dismissive look on his face, when Fiona again screamed at him.

"What procedure!!" she asked, only to hear him respond in a cold tone that matched the extremely cold look on his face.

"You must also feel it! The aftermath! I asked that you be put under for a while longer, but I guess your body is much stronger than it seemed."

His words only made her boil even more as she visibly shook, his face completely blank, which made her feel like underneath the cold look, he was simply mocking her.

"What procedure?" she asked again in a lower register, only to almost gasp in shock and alarm as Fervor instantly responded.

"You lost the baby! The rest of it had to be removed!" he replied, to which Fiona gasped, raising her hands to cover her mouth even as tears streamed down her face in a way that her former self would have found extremely disgusting and not an emotion to ever show.

But at that moment, Fiona didn’t care, barely keeping it together as she lowered herself to the floor and sobbed softly at first, only for it to become louder, muttering words underneath her breath as her entire body shook.

It was your fault! Fuck!

It was your fault... if you had... sob... sob!

It was— It-it was my fault! she gasped, wiping her eyes vigorously only for more tears to stream out.

Fervor still looked cold and unconcerned as he began to speak in a tone that was even more icy.

"No one can know that you lost the baby! If your father finds out, yes, he will attack me, but he’ll also be able to drag you back."

"I also don’t have any reason to keep you here since I have much bigger problems of my own!" he continued, even as he watched Fiona suddenly go silent as she wiped her face, walking closer to his table.

But still, he didn’t really care as long as he said what needed to be said and she did as he said.

"You’ll recover fast, and then we need you pregnant as fast as possible! Yeah, you lost a baby, but you can always just—" but he was still speaking when he suddenly froze.

Fiona, who had been looking out through the large windows in the room, suddenly breathed out a long sigh just before she leaped out of the topmost floor of the building.

Fervor was so surprised that for the first time ever in his life, a look of stupefaction could be clearly seen on his face.
