Murim's Weakest Princess-Chapter 130: Special Dormitory
Chapter 130: Special Dormitory
Everything in the Mystical Qilin Sect was strange. Other sects had a bigger outer court and a smaller inner court due to the thinning numbers of potential disciples worth grooming. However, the researchers did things differently. There were many researchers and librarians compared to apprentices. Not to mention, every research lab was as huge as a mansion.
"For safety reasons, every research lab must be at least a hundred meters away from each other," Pearl told Anji. "The last count we had was about three hundred and eighty research facilities scattered all around the mountain. That’s the reason why we have several libraries in the sect."
Additionally, Anji learned that the researchers did not like to go to the dormitory where they were assigned. Most people who were in the inner court usually slept and ate where they worked. Pearl was no exception. She would have her meals in the librarian’s common room and slept in the loft of the library or in between bookshelves that nobody frequented. Similarly, researchers slept in their cots in the lab or on the floor with a straw mattress beneath their desks.
"I wish they would use the desks for actual documentation and administration work," Pearl groaned. "When I was an administrative librarian, I had to work for a researcher who was in such a state of depression. He slept on the table. The floor was full of papers from five years ago. We could not see any part of the floorboard when we first started, and clearing out that pigsty lab is something I will never want to experience again."
Arriving at the Western library, Pearl introduced Anji to her home.
"Although you cannot enter the library, you can ask any librarian on duty to call for me. I work on the third floor."
Nodding, Anji promised to find her. Now that they were in the western court, Pearl took Anji around so she would be familiar with the area. As the Mystical Qilin Sect was too big and chaotic, the Western Court was chosen to become Anji’s babysitting district. It was the least chaotic place and the district closest to the Sect Leader’s special cabin.
"Unlike everyone else, you will be residing in a special dormitory. The other dormitories are too hazardous for a child, so the sect leader has specially informed us that you will be occupying her cabin. She is currently in seclusion and will not be using it. You can use everything there, but please keep it tidy for her when she returns."
Hm? The design of the cabin seemed familiar. It was quite a distance from everything else in the outer court but accessible to everyone in the inner court.
"Does Sect Leader Yan have someone to clean her cabin regularly?"
Nodding, Pearl explained that while their esteemed Sect Leader lived in the cabin occasionally, nobody bothered her much in fear of her icy temper and sharp words. However, there would always be an unfortunate librarian on duty to maintain her cabin in her absence. Nobody liked the task of maintaining the place because the blind prophet disliked it when others shifted her items to different spots.
"Oh, I can understand her frustration. From my understanding, blind people remember where everything is and identify them based on their sense of hearing or touch. It would be difficult for shi- Sect Leader Yan to find her books if they were not arranged in the correct order."
Almost letting the word "shifu" out, Anji bit down on her tongue. Thankfully, Pearl did not notice the slip and grimaced.
"I wish you all the best. Unfortunately, this senior sister cannot assist you with your housekeeping duties. On the bright side, nobody will disturb you while living in the sect leader’s hut. You can drop your belongings at the hut first. I’ll show you where the kitchen and infirmary are before introducing you to the various researchers who will become your guides and teachers for the next month."
Agreeing, Anji climbed the long flight of stairs, circulating more energy into her legs and lungs. She had been walking since getting off Chun’s cart at the entrance. The mountain was tall, and with the winding paths, Anji walked more than she did back to the Celestial Dragon Sect. It should be easier to continue her tour without the heavy baggage.
After twenty minutes of walking and climbing the steep steps, they finally arrived at the cabin. Although the building was different, the vibes were similar. Anji was instantly taken back to three years ago at the private training hut where she spent her time with her shifu. Unlike back then, there is a well in the middle of the front yard and some clothesline hanging from a tree to the top of the well.
This cabin had few flashy inventions and spells, unlike the rest of the sect. Even from the outside, Anji could see how simplistic her teacher lived. The kitchen only had a few items. The minimalistic lifestyle remained. Reminded of the cramped store room where Anji almost had an accident, she wondered if her shifu had a secret dumpster storage for everything she did not want to be displayed outside. The place was dust-free, and Anji suspected it was a spell that her teacher had added. Yan Ping hated chores just as much as the regular person did. She believed in efficiency, and it reflected in her dwelling.
"This is your home now," Pearl smiled. "Go on, you can afford to explore a little before we leave. It’s safe to travel inside the sect at night because it is well-lit. You don’t have to hurry."
Grinning, Anji nodded and removed her shoes at the entrance before sliding open the heavy door. Inside, the interior was similar to the hut they lived in previously. There was only one bed and a small table for guests with an empty teapot that needed washing.
Dropping her heavy cloth sack on the bed, Anji looked around a little. The place was small, and the bathroom was outside at the back. It was not too far from the back entrance, but there were no plants in the garden. Moreover, there was no storage room full of miscellaneous items. Apart from studying, meditating, eating and sleeping, there was nothing else to do in her special dormitory.
Within five minutes, Anji exited the cabin and closed the door behind her. Without a heavy pack to weigh her down, she grinned and was ready to explore the rest of the sect.
Holding the girl’s hand as they slowly climbed down the slippery and steep flight of stairs, Pearl wondered if she should create a diagonal moving platform first instead of a vertical one for Anji’s sake. She could not imagine seeing the little girl climbing up and down these dangerous steps every day only to split her skull open on a sharp rock one day when she fell.
