My Apocalypse Territory-Chapter 382 - 369: Three Types of Mutant Beasts
Chapter 382 -369: Three Types of Mutant Beasts
Before him lay vast pastures with lush, vibrant grass that had grown robustly since the apocalypse. This new variety of grass was cold-resistant, high-yielding, and rich in vitamins and trace minerals.
About a dozen mutated cows, slightly larger in size, with black and white patches and exceptionally shiny fur, were leisurely strolling around the pasture. Occasionally bending their heads to snatch mouthfuls of the green grass, they chewed noisily, emitting a ‘moo moo’ sound.
Several milkers could be seen crouching beside some of these mutated cows, skillfully pressing and extracting milk into wooden barrels prepared below.
Derived from superior breeds highly selected and bred before the apocalypse, these mutated cows, generally of the First and Second-tier, still retained their previous docility. They spent their days contentedly roaming the pasture, producing more milk than ordinary cows, and the milk was even fresher.
Regular consumption could subtly improve one’s physical constitution.
Tang Yu had paid a hefty price to acquire these dozen or so mutated cows from Lindong. Most were females, with a few males for breeding purposes.
Several Awakeners from the Guardian Corps were stationed at the entrance of the ranch. The team leader, seeing the two visitors, came forward with a serious face. After Tang Yu gestured with his eyes to dismiss him, he remained standing at attention, although his glance occasionally strayed in their direction.
——The entire pasture was garrisoned by a twenty-five-person Awakener squad daily, not only to guard against intruders but also to prevent any outbreak of rebellion among the Mutated Beasts.
Beyond the cows, few Mutated Beasts in a free-range state caught the eye. Their presence didn’t exceed that of the third layer, and they appeared gentle and endearing.
Ah, except for one.
Tang Yu caught sight of a golden beast the size of a small hill on the left side of the pasture, snorting as it gnawed at a pile of metallic minerals in front of it.
The golden beast exuded a terrifying aura of the Ninth Layer Awakener——such a talent for rapidly increasing strength merely by eating and drinking was indeed enviable.
Within the pasture, the strolling cows, Horned Deer, and other Mutant Beasts were suppressed by this imposing aura, keeping their distance.
Within a hundred meters, the area was clear, and the golden giant became the undisputed ruler of the pasture.
“Long time no see, has the gold-swallowing beast gotten fatter? I wonder if it will one day be unable to walk? No matter, as long as it produces minerals, it’s all good.”
Tang Yu mumbled, taking a few more glances.
Sensing his gaze, the gold-swallowing beast abruptly froze, the large chunk of metal it had been gnawing slipped from its not-so-large mouth as the two figures walked away and disappeared. The enormous body of the gold-swallowing beast suddenly shuddered, shook a bit, and continued to snort and gnaw at its heap of joyous miner.
…
The pasture was divided into outer and inner layers. The outer layer was the free-range area for harmless Mutant Beasts, where their movement was unrestricted.
But many more Mutated Beasts were caged.
“Cluck, cluck, cluck——”
The ear-piercing cries were accompanied by the clang of iron against stone.
To the left, a hen over two meters tall with beautiful yellow feathers aggressively pecked at the metal bars, producing ‘dang dang’ sounds as sparks flew, but the metal bars remained undamaged.
The Mutated Chicken, merely a third-layer Mutant Beast, couldn’t be allowed to roam free outside.
Tang Yu felt quite helpless. Mutant Beasts with high intelligence like the gold-swallowing beast, capable of assessing situations, were indeed rare.
“Can you soothe Huang’s mood?”
“No problem.”
Kara took out a bit of yellow-green powder from his pocket, held it in his hand, and walked step by step towards the cage housing the Mutated Chicken.
He reached out his hand holding the powder, seemingly intending to feed it to the large hen, Huang.
Would it peck out a bloody hole? Tang Yu worried, but then remembered Kara was at least a Sixth Layer Awakener, while Huang was only third-layer… Furthermore, if a Beast Tamer couldn’t handle a Mutated Chicken, it would undoubtedly be disappointing.
Kara did not disappoint.
As the hen’s sharp beak shot down like lightning, he tossed the yellow-green powder. It was unclear whether it sprinkled onto the Mutated Chicken’s body or went directly into its mouth.
Kara’s eyes widened as if he was looking the Mutated Chicken in the eye. After a moment, he reached out to stroke the chicken’s soft yellow feathers. Meeting no resistance, Huang sat down and became tame.
There was indeed a knack to it.
Tang Yu approached, “Has Huang been completely tamed?”
Kara shook his head, “Right now, its wildness is only temporarily suppressed. If left alone, it will soon revert to its previous aggression. A complete taming will take a few more days.”
“What is the highest level of Mutant Beast you can tame, Mr. Kara?”
“That’s hard to say. There are many factors affecting domestication: the temperament of the Mutated Beast, preparations, whether it’s hostile to humans, etc… Each Mutated Beast is a different individual. You can only understand whether it can be tamed after seeing it and getting to know it.”
Taming the Mutated Chicken isn’t important—it just makes egg collection easier in the future.
Tang Yu was more hopeful that Kara could tame some sort of beast that could serve as a mount and charge into battle.
The pasture was vast, and the deeper one went, the more terrifying the caged Mutant Beasts became, their roars and cries endless.
Most of the squad stationed at the ranch were positioned in the deeper areas.
The two passed by cages holding various creatures—avian and aquatic Mutant Beasts, among others. The holding areas varied in size; some were as small as garages, while others rivaled basketball courts.
