Chapter 50: Sharing Chocolate

(Karsten)

She was still wearing my shirt, she hadn’t changed into her own clothes but chose to wear mine.

A sense of pride I felt I had made her feel safe with me, and I had made her feel comfortable enough to wear my shirt.

She was vulnerable and I wished she would remain at ease with me as she was under my protection.

Arata almost choked on her tea when I told her about the pads. It must have been embarrassment mingling with the hilarity of the situation for her.

She slowly sipped on her tea when I offered her chocolates. For a few seconds, she stared at the cup in her hand and then her eyes found mine.

Like vast oceans, tears swam in them.

"Thank you!" She mumbled trying not to choke on her words.

No, no, no. No crying.

I hated it when a woman cried. Emotional regulation was not my strong pursuit. I could provide pleasures and advice but crying made me squirmy.

Should I hug her?

I had done it before but that was a different persona. She was comfortable with my other self and I was sure she wouldn’t be with this one.

"Are you in more pain?" I asked, slightly panicked and she shook her head with a sniffle. The tip of her nose has turned into a small cherry.

"Why are you crying? Did my family go overboard?" I was making guesses as to why she was crying, and she simply shook her head without elaboration.

"Don’t cry then." I quickly opened the brown bag, fished out the biggest chocolate I could find, and extended it towards her.

"Here, try this." She quietly accepted the chocolate bar. Arata was not the overly emotional type. She handled situations with a level head, and I loved that about her, but right then, she seemed like an emotional mess.

She then spoke in a low meek voice.

"You told me not to disappoint you and I did exactly that."

Was that the source of her sudden ire?

I collapsed on the sofa behind me while facing her and shook my head.

If anyone had disappointed me, it was my mother and brother.

"You didn’t disappoint and I am not mad at you," I told her calmly and observed how she hadn’t drunk the tea completely. "Finish up your tea." This I spoke like an order.

A subtle smile spread on her lips as she wiped away her tears. Quietly she finished the hot beverage while I quietly watched her.

"Your family didn’t find it odd that I didn’t return for dinner?" She questioned, finally turning her face towards me. Sadness still rested comfortably there. I had never seen her so down.

"I informed them you are not well and we will meet them the next day." I sank low into the sofa, sleep was overtaking me but I tried to keep my eyes open.

She quietly finished her tea and opened the chocolate wrapper.

~Trrrrr~

Breaking off a big chunk she turned towards me and tossed it in my direction without asking if I wanted it. It seemed like she didn’t want to eat alone.

I raised my right hand and effortlessly caught it without difficulty. A huge bite I took out of the nutty goodness. We ate it in silence.

She nibbled on it, enjoying the taste with every bite. I avoided sweet everything but chocolate was my cheat food and I didn’t wish to turn her down.

Once I finished it, my eyes began to droop even more. I had no clue when my eyes closed and I went to sleep on the sofa with my hand under my temple and my elbow resting on the armrest.

I stirred lightly when someone covered me with something warm, but I couldn’t open my eyes. The eyelids felt heavy.

It was early morning when I finally woke up, the lights were dim in the room and it took me a while for my eyes to adjust.

Once my eyes focused, I found her sleeping with her head turned in my direction and her hands resting under her oval face. Her sumptuous lips were extremely desirable and my heart ached to taste them again, taste all of her again.

After the weekend, I knew she would come to me once she was done with her period.

Innocence dripped from her face as she slept with full trust in me. I should have gone to my room to sleep as my family had left but tiredness had made me sleepy. And despite being in pain herself, she had not only covered me with a blanket, but now that I wriggled my toes, I found she had even removed my shoes and placed them aside.

A smile spread on my lips seeing her care, she was perfectly playing the role of my fake girlfriend. Deciding to let her sleep and get as much rest as she could, I got up quietly and left for my room.

I got a few more hours in before getting up to freshen up. Getting ready I checked my phone and saw Roshra had sent me a million messages, asking when I was coming over with Arata. She was obsessive, and I hoped Arata would be able to handle her craziness.

Actually my whole family’s craziness, as a matter of fact, and the dark secrets we held. I just hoped she wouldn’t find me repulsive after she knew what kind of power my family held in Sparia.

I left my room to check on Arata. Knocking on her door, I didn’t have to wait longer when she emerged from the room, all dressed in a neat and elegant navy blue sun dress. It hugged her in all the right places and my mouth salivated seeing her.

She dazzled like a blue rose which had just blossomed, and for a few seconds, I was lost staring at her. She awkwardly smiled, adjusting her glasses, and greeted me.

"Good morning!"

I guessed that it would take her a while to wash away yesterday’s bad memory.

"Morning! How are you feeling?"

"That tea was magical, I could never sleep the first day due to pain. I appreciate you taking care of me," she expressed her gratitude, making her smile go wide. How her rosy cheeks fluffed like cotton candy and if only I could take a bite.

"It’s fine; come, let’s have breakfast and head over to Ma’s. Roshra is blowing up my phone and is insistent on meeting you."

We headed down to the dining area; after a healthy breakfast, where I ensured she ate the right amount of food, we headed for Ma’s villa. Olphi drove us.

I observed how openly she wore her emotions and was mesmerised by the beauty of my lands. I had to suppress a smile on many occasions, seeing her reactions, but my smile was wiped as we reached Ma’s villa and descended from the car.

I offered Arata my arm, and she graciously took it; I observed she was more comfortable with me now.

We entered the place and she gasped as we neared the well-kept gardens.

"It’s breathtaking." Her head swivelled in all directions, but my eyes were fixed on the woman sitting next to Ma in her gardens, and my blood boiled over.
