After helping Adrian find his shoe, we returned to my town with the entire group.

Once we arrived, I headed straight to check on Anna while the others settled in the sitting room. She was still sleeping peacefully.

"Rose!!" I called out. A few minutes later, she appeared.

"Can you check up on my—"

Before I could finish, Rose suddenly jumped back and summoned her cursed whip, startling me.

"It’s him!!!" she shouted. "He needs to die!!"

She cracked the whip toward the bed, but I caught it just before it could strike Anna. I gripped it tightly, quickly enhancing my strength with my buff skill to match hers.

"What’s the meaning of this, Rose?!" I barked in frustration.

"That’s that bastard! I can smell his filthy scent!" she snarled, yanking the whip from my grip. Her face twisted with rage.

Even with my buffs enhanced, I couldn’t match the strength of an angry Rose. She overpowered me and snatched it back. Just as she raised her whip again attempting to attack, I boosted my speed stats to the max, grabbed Anna, and leaped out the window. Glass shattered around us as we landed on the pavement outside.

"Why are you protecting him, hubby?!" Rose yelled from the upper floor, glaring down at me. And l could sense the disbelief in her voice.

"Him?" I frowned. "Are you blind? Can’t you see this is a girl?!"

She hissed and jumped down, landing right in front of me.

"You’re the blind one, hubby! That’s Draegonoth!!"

My eyes widened. "The Demon Lord?"

What was she even talking about? This was Anna.

"Yes! Even if his presence is faint, I can still sense him! We demons know each other when we see one. That wretched bastard! I should’ve known he wouldn’t die that easily!" she growled.

I was lost. Rose was furious. Everything was chaotic.

The commotion must’ve startled the others, because they came running out to see what was happening.

Rose’s dark whip cracked through the air, laced with cursed energy.

"Rose, please... calm down!!" I pleaded, knowing it was as pointless as asking a storm to quiet down.

"Put that bastard down so I can kill him while he’s still weak!" she shouted.

I exhaled and met her eyes seriously before gently laying Anna on the ground.

"If you so much as scratch her, I’ll HATE YOU FOR LIFE!" I said firmly.

Rose froze, gasping. Her eyes widened, and she sank to the ground.

"Y-you’ll... hate me?" she asked, her voice trembling.

I sighed. "Don’t overreact. I actually brought this girl to you so you could examine her and tell me what’s wrong. But no, you went straight for the kill."

"Right..." I muttered. "Now, can we please get back to the normal part of this? Tell me what’s going on."

She crawled over to us and gently touched Anna’s forehead like a sophisticated doctor or something.

"I sense Draegonoth inside this girl," she declared.

I frowned. "Seriously? Can you get him out? How dare that demon settle inside Anna?"

"I’m afraid there’s only one way to remove him... by killing both the demon and the host. That way, we won’t have to worry about a thing."

"Yeah, that’s not happening," I said sharply. "We’ll find another way. I’m not letting Anna die. She’s too precious to me."

Rose rubbed her chin, eyes narrowing as she examined Anna.

"No matter how I look at it, I can’t understand this. We killed Draegonoth in the demon realm. There’s no way his soul should’ve crossed the dimensional barrier into the human world."

She was right. Now that I thought about it, how did he do it?

Knowing that bastard, he probably had a trick up his sleeve. I mean... even when we fought him back then, he had a bangle on his right hand that made curse attacks useless against him. So there’s no telling what he could’ve done.

"Wait... did you just say demon? Anna is possessed by a demon?" Sharon asked behind me. She was standing with the others.

I nodded. "Seems so."

"Wow," she muttered. "Am I dreaming? Because lately it’s been giant monsters, women with horns, and now Anna is possessed by a demon? And somehow, I’m the only one freaking out while everyone else is chill!"

Adrian, standing beside her, shook her shoulders. "You’re not alone, Shazzy. I’m shocked too. I’ve just run out of facial expressions."

I ignored them and turned back to Rose and Anna.

"Tell me what’s been happening to her, hubby. Maybe I can figure something out," Rose said.

"Well... one day she was freezing cold. Another, she was burning hot. And her mother said there was even a time she grew a third eye on her forehead."

Rose’s eyes shot open. "A... a third eye?"

"Yes."

"That’s damn serious! That was Draegonoth trying to take control of her body! Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?! If he wakes up fully in the human world..."

"If he does, and starts wreaking havoc... I’ll have no choice but to stop him. Even if it means killing Anna. I fought Draegonoth with you before. I’m way stronger now. He won’t be as much of a threat."

Rose sighed. "Have you forgotten what l told you about us demons? And how we gain power? Through fear. If Draegonoth causes chaos and humans start panicking, he’ll feed on that fear and grow stronger. You won’t be able to stop him."

"So what are you saying? Kill Anna before your demon ex-husband takes over her body?"

"That’s the only way," she said quietly. Then added, "And don’t remind me he’s my ex."

"Sorry. But I’m not letting Anna die. Isn’t there any other way?"

"...Maybe," she replied, thoughtfully. "I need to examine her further. If we can find how he got in... maybe we can force him out the same way."

I let out a breath. "At least that’s something. Start the examination, please."
