Chapter 768 -769 Proposal (11)_1
Liang Chen, graceful and composed, extended a hand to He Nannan and said, “Hello.”
Faced with such a courteous Liang Chen, the color of He Nannan’s face fluctuated for a moment, but in the end, she lifted her hand and reached out towards Liang Chen. Yet, just as she was about to say her greeting, the Liang Chen, who Jing Haohao was about to introduce, languidly withdrew his hand and stuffed it back into his own pocket.
He Nannan’s hand, frozen mid-extension, was left in an awkward position: she couldn’t move forward or retract it.
Jing Haohao, seeing the forced smile on He Nannan’s face, her hand lingering in the air for a full three seconds before withdrawing it in extreme embarrassment, couldn’t suppress a smile. She forced her upward-curving lips into a neutral expression, presenting a docile demeanor as she stood next to Liang Chen.
Liang Chen did not seem to notice his deliberate slight and how much discomfort it brought to He Nannan and her boyfriend, itching to flee from the scene. Instead, he appeared immensely at ease and began speaking to He Nannan: “Are you out shopping today?”
This time, He Nannan didn’t even utter a word. She simply nodded gently.

Liang Chen didn’t seem bothered by He Nannan’s and her boyfriend’s silence. He appeared quite casual as if carrying on a light-hearted conversation, and continued in his clear and refined voice, “Miss He and Haohao are classmates, but I wonder what Miss He’s boyfriend does for a living?”
Anyone of wealth in Jiangshan City knew of Liang Chen. Though embarrassed by Liang Chen’s actions, He Nannan’s boyfriend, when asked by Liang Chen about his background, gave a simple rundown: “My parents work in public service, and I opened an advertising firm a few years ago.”
“Public service?” Liang Chen asked, appearing to pry further: “Are they government workers?”
He Nannan’s boyfriend had intended to be subtle, but stumped at this straightforward question from Liang Chen, he nodded and admitted, “Yes.”
Understanding, Liang Chen gave a knowing “oh”, then commented, “Miss He’s boyfriend certainly comes from a unique background. Collusion between officials and businesses… ”
Jing Haohao almost burst into laughter at Liang Chen’s words. She tightly pinched her palm, fighting back her amusement. Looking up she saw the miserable expressions on He Nannan and her boyfriend’s faces and quickly covered her mouth, smiling all the while.
Just as Jing Haohao was about to drop her hand, Liang Chen, standing beside her, spoke in a calm, non-apologetic tone as if saying an apology. “I’m sorry… I misspoke. I meant to say ‘collaboration between government and businesses.’ I hope you don’t mind?”
In this world, there’s probably only one person who can insult others in a way that leaves them unable to react – Liang Chen!
Jing Haohao hid the corners of her smile once more, and then lowered her hand. She saw He Nannan’s boyfriend, his face pale with anger, saying insincerely: “No, not at all.”
“That’s good.” Liang Chen paused seemingly inadvertently, then added, “But indeed, it’s so profitable these days to have parents who are government officials.”
Wasn’t he implying that He Nannan’s boyfriend could only manage to open an advertising company because of his parents’ government connections?
