Mythology Rebooted-Chapter 370 - 177 The High Priestess and Her Dog Man
Chapter 370: Chapter 177 The High Priestess and Her Dog Man
The face armor glowed red, and the knight in armor sprang to life instantly, sweeping his long sword straight for Wayne’s neck.
Loud roars erupted around them as the other knights in armor all came to life at that moment.
The sword wind was upon him, the heat wave hitting his face, and only then did Wayne realize the exceptional nature of the knight’s sword. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
This was a magic sword, capable of invoking the fire element in the air!
He raised his hand to block the knight’s sword, fingers tightly gripping the blade, leaving indentations with his fingerprints. In a move that no knight could perish by bare hands, he seized the sword for himself, swung it in a counterstroke, and bisected the ambushing knight in armor at the waist.
Around him, pieces of armor moved with ease, forming a circle with their long swords drawn.
Vernar and Deit used magic to fend off their enemies, their coordination as if gifted with a psychic connection; together, they were far more formidable than just as individuals, holding off dozens of knights in armor that outnumbered them.
Philomena still clung to one of Wayne’s arms, her eyes cold, "Is this how the Magic Department treats its guests, by solving problems through eliminating problematic people?"
"Certainly not, I’m still here, and there’s no reason to kill one’s own people."
"Hmph!"
"Mina, this is instigation. The Magic Department wouldn’t lay a hand on you. It’d bring more trouble than it’s worth with no benefit. If it’s not a traitor, it must be one of the other churches."
Wayne knew that Philomena was aware, and quickly proposed several possibilities, "Like the Moonlight Church’s allies in the Life Alliance, or those affiliated with darkness and death, or perhaps the Heavenly Father’s Court... Yes, definitely the Heavenly Father’s Court. Those who dabble in Holy Light are foul at heart, always dreaming of expanding their influence in Windsor."
"Go on, I love to hear nonsense," Philomena scoffed.
Wayne held his tongue. People weren’t willing to risk their lives for a few hundred bucks a month, and as a tour guide without even a Xianke in salary, a couple of words to show he cared were enough. As for whitewashing the Magic Department...
Although he had yet to see the assassin, Wayne was eighty percent sure it was an ambush set by the Magic Department. Different from the Capital Grand Hotel incident, this time it was another faction.
A traitor wouldn’t make a move now; it’s too late for a cover-up murder. Throwing oil on the fire would only worsen the chaos, and in the Minister’s rage, what was a life sentence might indeed become a death penalty.
Some thought the Queen too lenient and wanted the traitor to die without a grave!
With that in mind, Wayne spoke again, "You’re right. Dirty politics are everywhere. This ambush is to put pressure on the Queen."
"Heh."
Philomena merely sneered. Regardless of who was pressuring the Windsor Royal Family, they shouldn’t use the Moonlight Church as a stepping stone.
Amidst their conversation, Vernar and Deit had cleared the surrounding armor, their eyebrows knitted in displeasure as they looked towards Wayne.
"What are you looking at me for? I’m not the guide here. The Magic Department scheduled everything."
Wayne, furious, grabbed Philomena, taking her as a hostage to sway the two sisters to temperance.
Philomena pushed away Wayne’s presumptuous hands, her bare hand raised and with a swift motion in the air, two Full Moon Pistols and the Waning Moon Short Sword fell from a black rift, hovering before the twins.
The sisters took their weapons, ready for battle.
Who ambushed them was not important now. What mattered was the continuous fluctuation of magic power around them; the ambush was far from over, and the worst was yet to come.
Wayne glanced at Philomena’s personal space, envious but not showing it. Opening a Dark Domain with mere thought was a power only a Golden Mage possessed.
There are two types of Dark Domains: static and mobile.
A static Dark Domain can be considered a storage space, usually hidden within a Golden Mage’s lair. Opening a space consumes a great deal of mental power, and once it takes shape, the space remains stationary, won’t collapse or expand, and only the Golden Mage owner can erase it.
A Legendary Mage from outside could do it as well, overpowering it as they please. However, this isn’t a suitable example and won’t be elaborated on.
Speaking of the static Dark Domain alone, because once it’s formed, it doesn’t continually consume the thoughts of its creator, it exists even after the creator’s death; hence, the vaults of Golden Mages are often burst open, revealing vast amounts of gold.
Mobile Dark Domains, conversely, are different. Compared to the mental energy needed to open such a space, the maintenance costs are substantial, making it less cost-effective. Golden Mages only open a small part of the space to store their most precious items.
Such as weapons and equipment used in combat.
Thought is not affected by the Forbidden Magic Domain, and that’s why Wayne didn’t expose Philomena’s magic guns. That’s the reason.
As for the weapons in the twins’ hands, although they resembled Philomena’s combat gear, they weren’t as exaggeratedly high-grade, likely standardized weapons produced by the Moonlight Church for arming their combat troops.
Wayne had inquired with Chris, and few Moonlight Church mages used firearms, let alone magic firearms. Considering Philomena came from the headquarters of the Moonlight Church, it could be deduced that the guns and swords were only equipped by the headquarter’s combat personnel and were not yet in mass service.
"Why aren’t you talking now?" Philomena asked coldly, still clinging to Wayne’s arm.
Without any pretense of a false facade, her cold beauty was alluring, her desirability score peaking, and Wayne suddenly found himself reminiscing about his first love.
Philomena said expressionlessly, "I will report this incident to the Church headquarters and tell the Magic Department to come up with an excuse as soon as possible. Get ready to pay up!"
"Of course."
Wayne’s eyes brightened, and he whispered to Philomena, "There are no outsiders here, so we can exaggerate our story. Make the situation as dire as it needs to be, and demand more compensation from the Magic Department. I’ll corroborate your story; you’ll make a profit, and I won’t lose out."
Philomena’s expression stiffened, "To be honest, are you really the Jack who saved me that night?"
"That night, I took the suitcase."
