Chapter 401: Chapter 187: Commanded to Confiscate Property_2
Almost impossible.
Austin looked at Wayne curiously; the latter was engulfed by the Legendary Mage’s Life Force Field. What exactly happened during that time? Why would Austin choose to open the Gate of Truth even when he had an overwhelming advantage?
What method did Wayne use to force Austin down this path?
If it was due to overwhelming power and Austin had no chance of winning, making it a choice of last resort, Austin was still somewhat incredulous.
"I didn’t lie. Austin sought his own death. I don’t know why he opened the Gate of Truth either. Anyway, he was eaten by a Void Worm, and the High Priest of the Moonlight Church can testify to that," Wayne said defensively, as he had a witness.
"Do you think the Magic Department will believe a testimony that’s been rigged?"
Austin waved his hand dismissively and continued, "The specifics will be confirmed personally by the Legendary Mage. If it really was a Void Worm, it will certainly be discovered."
"So risky, aren’t they afraid the Void Worm hasn’t left and just waltzed in through the front door?" Wayne wondered aloud.
"Why would the Void Worm stick around?"
Right.
Wayne nodded in agreement. It made sense. It wasn’t like the creature had gorged itself and then decided to lie in wait for more prey.
Impossible, utterly impossible.

Learning that the Magic Department would clear his name, Wayne immediately relaxed. With both testimonial and physical evidence present, no one could frame him.
"Because the Moonlight Church has lost too many people, to shut them up, the Magic Department will definitely give up some benefits," Austin said with a frown, even imagining the task the Magic Department would assign to Wayne.
He had seen Philomena’s photo, and putting it bluntly, the trash can definitely couldn’t hold back, willing to sacrifice for his country under the guise of justice.
Very displeased—it was the heir of the Lando Family, not a social butterfly for the Magic Department!
Speaking in terms of the family’s interests, Austin was happy to see this happen. He had a High Priest, and so did Wayne; cooperation between the two would profit all three parties involved.
But again, as a father, he didn’t want his daughter to be wronged.
"You can rest easy about the High Priest, I’m just playing along with her,"
Wayne said, a cold sneer on his lips. Seeing Austin’s annoyed expression, he explained, "Not that sort of playing, very innocent—just so you know, I don’t really like that woman."
"Really? But she’s so beautiful,"
"Austin, you understand us. Appearances don’t matter; it’s the soul that counts, just like with you and the teacher. You didn’t pursue her because she was beautiful," Wayne spoke righteously.
"..."
"Austin, say something!"
"What do you want me to say, that she isn’t pretty and then you report me behind my back?"
Austin smirked disdainfully. It was all low-level tactics; there was not a single one ready for the stage.
He continued, "You say you don’t like that woman, I’ll take your word for it this time, but remember your promise. Don’t let me down."
"Just wait and see!"
Wayne was full of confidence. Philomena was indeed beautiful, but too crafty. To pull him back to the Moonlight Church, not only did she resort to using her beauty but also pressured Kris to do the same with her influence.
Though he felt a small sense of guilty pleasure, considering Kris’ feelings made the plan unpalatable; pure love tainted with disputes of interest was a bad plan.
Wayne had already figured it out. Flirt madly with the High Priest until she was deeply in love, then abruptly kick her to the curb.
Serves her right!
After two successive heroic rescues, he felt this was a sure thing.
Wayne’s face was filled with unfounded confidence, puzzling Austin who didn’t press further, choosing to wait for Wayne to prove himself. As for the tasks arranged by the Magic Department today, "Austin is finished; families close to him will all be under scrutiny. The investigation team is being selected, and I have a good chance of getting in."
Wayne’s eyes lit up; he understood Austin’s implication.
The Old Buddha has decreed the selection of an Imperial Envoy—an imminent writ to raid homes.
This could be quite lucrative!
"Austin, do you think I’m up for it?" Wayne asked eagerly.
"You’re not yet a member of the Tulip Family. The Magic Department won’t consider you,"
Austin shook his head, pausing for a moment before saying, "But you can represent me in this matter, much like the previous business negotiations, and undertake the mission as an heir to the family."
Wayne nodded vigorously, wishing he could immediately raid Austin’s home to confiscate tens of millions in Gold and silver and turn over several hundreds of thousands to the treasury.
"Don’t celebrate too soon. Austin’s surname is Windsor. The Minister has both sons and daughters, and they won’t give the most profitable mission to the Lando Family."
Austin saw right through what was in Wayne’s heart and said, "The reward allocated to us won’t be too large. We can make some money, but not a fortune. Once the news is confirmed, you’ll handle the task."
Wayne looked disappointed; it wasn’t the den of a Legendary Mage but rather affiliated families with close ties. These paupers had already been picked clean by Austin, leaving mere scraps that were clearly barely enough for beggars.
Just commoners; the Queen’s table manners were quite unrefined.
Who said you couldn’t make money without striking oil?
Austin smiled without saying a word. How to earn and how to profit was an art. He wouldn’t remind Wayne, allowing him to play it by ear and grow from lessons learned.
He believed in the trash can’s talent and that it wouldn’t disappoint.
"There’s one more thing!"
Austin had just died that afternoon, and the Magic Department had called an urgent meeting. Dividing the spoils could wait—those were matters for later. For now, they owed the Moonlight Church an explanation.
At the same time, the investigation into Austin and his accomplices couldn’t lapse. Only a thorough investigation would confirm the list of homes to be raided.
