"Danzō, you're too old. This is the era of the young. Forget about the Hokage position—Leave it to the younger generation." Homura Mitokado stated, looking down, a glint of light reflecting off his glasses.
"Homura Mitokado, what did you say?" Danzō's eyes narrowed, a vicious light glinting within them. He looked ready to strike Homura down.
"I support Elder Homura." Jiraiya glanced at Danzō, then voiced his opinion. This old geezer Danzō becoming Hokage? Absolutely not.
It just goes to show, being too ruthless isn't always a good thing. Danzō's personality meant no one would support him. Even his former collaborators now stood against him.
"I have a proposal. I nominate Jiraiya to be Hokage," Koharu Utatane stood up and declared.
BANG!
Danzō slammed his hand on the table and stormed out furiously. He knew staying longer was pointless; it would only lead to further humiliation. Why? Why is it so difficult for him to become Hokage?
After Danzō left, a quiet settled over the meeting room. After a long while, Jiraiya finally broke the silence.
"Elder Koharu, you're not joking, are you? Me, as Hokage? I'm not suited for the role at all."
"It's not about suitability. Konoha has no other choice. Unless you want Danzō to become Hokage. If not, then don't refuse." Homura Mitokado stated.
Konoha truly had no one else suitable for the position besides Jiraiya. In terms of both strength and prestige, Jiraiya was perfectly suited. There was no one else in Konoha who could take on the role.
"Jiraiya, Konoha is in crisis. I hope you can lead the village out of this. Don't shirk your responsibility." This heavy burden could only be entrusted to Jiraiya; only he was suitable.
Jiraiya fell silent. Honestly, he didn't want to become Hokage. He knew his personality wasn't suited for it; he couldn't be a good Hokage.
But there was no other suitable candidate within Konoha. Danzō was definitely out of the question. He had to take on this responsibility.
"Alright. I can serve as Hokage. But once I've trained a suitable successor, I will step down," Jiraiya finally nodded.
Though he preferred a carefree life, the current situation demanded otherwise. He had to do his best to train Konoha's ninja, hoping to find a worthy successor.
"That's up to you. As long as you agree to take on the role of Hokage for now, that's fine." Homura Mitokado and Koharu Utatane didn't care about that.
As long as Jiraiya became Hokage, their primary goal was achieved. If Jiraiya didn't become Hokage, the position might fall into Danzō's hands.
With Danzō's autocratic nature, he would surely strip them of their power. That was something they didn't want to see, which was why they opposed Danzō becoming Hokage.
Knowing what kind of person Danzō was, how could they not refuse? If they didn't, they'd be doomed.
Danzō was ruthless enough to act against them.
Jiraiya, on the other hand, was different. His personality was somewhat similar to Hiruzen Sarutobi's; he would likely show some leniency in his actions.
Don't think that Homura and Koharu recommending Jiraiya for Hokage meant they were on his side.
Their primary motivation was their own self-interest. If Jiraiya threatened their interests, they would undoubtedly turn against him.
——
A few days passed. News that Jiraiya was about to become the next Hokage spread throughout Konoha.
"Just as I expected. Jiraiya became Hokage." Shin lounged on the Hokage Rock, his arm around Tsunade.
"Expected? Besides Jiraiya, Konoha had no one else to choose. Anyone who isn't an idiot could see that," Tsunade said, giving Shin a disdainful look.
"Oh? Tsunade, are you looking down on your husband? Is that a challenge?" Shin pulled Tsunade into his embrace, a threatening expression on his face.
"It is! What are you going to do about it?" Tsunade retorted stubbornly.
"Very good... Looks like a battle is unavoidable tonight. I hope you'll still be this stubborn and not beg for mercy then."
"Who's afraid of whom? I'm afraid you'll be the one begging for mercy."
Tsunade continued her stubborn act, though inwardly she was already feeling apprehensive.
Pride kills, pride kills...
"Let's go watch Jiraiya's inauguration."
Shin picked Tsunade up and, with a flash, left the Hokage Rock, appearing before the Hokage Tower.
——
The Hokage inauguration ceremony had already begun. Jiraiya, wearing the Hokage robe and hat, looked less like a goofball and more serious.
Having taken on the mantle of Hokage, he had to bear the responsibility. His former carefree attitude had to be abandoned.
"Didn't expect that idiot Jiraiya to actually become Hokage one day. If you told me this before, I wouldn't have believed it," Tsunade said to Shin, looking at Jiraiya on the stage.
"Is Jiraiya an idiot?" Shin shook his head slightly.
Jiraiya's students were all exceptionally powerful.
Nagato Uzumaki, the current public leader of the Akatsuki; Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage; Naruto Uzumaki, the Child of Prophecy.
——
"This ceremony's boring." After a while, Tsunade yawned. She couldn't watch anymore. Jiraiya was still giving his speech.
"I wonder where he got so much to talk about,"
Tsunade grumbled. The Jiraiya standing on stage giving a speech was completely different from the Jiraiya she knew.
"I guess he memorized the speech last night," Shin speculated.
Shin wasn't wrong. Jiraiya had spent all day yesterday memorizing the speech. It hadn't been easy preparing for this inauguration ceremony.
"Since you're bored, let's leave. There's nothing much to see anyway. Don't just say you're bored; I'm bored too," Shin said with a disinterested expression.
"By the way, Are we going to stay in Konoha for a bit longer?" Shin asked Tsunade.
"Of course! Why go back so soon? I haven't had enough fun yet!" Tsunade grabbed Shin's hand, a smile playing on her lips.
These past few days, just the two of them enjoying their time together, had been incredibly joyful. Naturally, Tsunade didn't want to return so quickly.
As for whether Kushina, Mikoto, and the others would be worried? Tsunade hadn't considered that. Right now, she was only thinking about where to go have fun with Shin.
Shin, seeing Tsunade's high spirits, didn't refuse. Since Tsunade was in such a good mood, he'd accompany her and explore Konoha properly.
However, Shin hadn't forgotten about earlier. Tonight, he would definitely punish Tsunade. As for what kind of punishment... Shin hadn't decided yet; he was still thinking about it.
Tsunade walked ahead. For some reason, she suddenly felt a chill run down her spine, as if something was watching her.
