Chapter 59 - Purpose

The mission, which was meant to be an intricate game of cat and mouse, quickly turned into something more... straightforward. Deidara had expected resistance, a battle, maybe a few explosions, but instead, Teriyaki had come up with a plan that was simple, efficient, and, most importantly, effective.

Tenga's figure stood there, watching Teriyaki with an unreadable expression. For all his calculated moves and strategic intellect, he had not anticipated one thing: Teriyaki's sheer unpredictability.

As Deidara stood back, rolling his clay into small, tight shapes with the precision of a craftsman, Teriyaki smirked, his mind already working on his next move.

"Let's end this quickly," Teriyaki muttered, eyes scanning the area for a second before his hand snaked through a series of signs.

"Snake Clone Technique."

In a puff of smoke, a snake clone appeared—this one, however, wasn't just any clone. It was devoid of any clothing, entirely bare. The small clone hissed as it crawled to Teriyaki's command, crawling across the ground, blending in with the dirt and shadows.

It's like a small titan from AOT.

Deidara raised an eyebrow. "What's this, huh? Some kind of weird fetish-."

Teriyaki didn't answer directly. Instead, he turned to Deidara, his voice dripping with a hint of humor. "You're the one with the explosives. Get to work."

Deidara's eyes widened, realization dawning on him. "Wait, you want me to—?"

Before Deidara could finish his sentence, Teriyaki's small clone slithered across the ground, crawling beneath Tenga's feet, unnoticed.

Deidara, now understanding, grinned widely. "I see. Let's make this art explode."

Without hesitation, Deidara got to work. His hands flicked through seals, and in moments, the snake clone was wrapped in a layer of his specialized explosive clay. Carefully, Deidara made sure it was secure, covering the clone with a combination of bombs that would turn it into a walking, slithering time bomb.

"Now, Teriyaki," Deidara called out, "time for the final touch."

Teriyaki nodded, and with another quick motion of his mind he sent it forwards.

Tenga, who had been watching the scene unfold, looked confused. "What is this? What game are you playing at? Are you communicating in sign language?"

Teriyaki made no move to answer him, simply gesturing to the sky.

"Huh? You want me to look at the sky?"

The moment Tenga's attention wavered, the snake clone slithered up from the dirt behind him, its bomb-laden body brushing against his legs. Without any indication of danger, it moved with almost eerie silence.

Teriyaki watched Tenga carefully as the clone approached. With no warning, the snake clone uncoiled quickly, the explosive charge hidden beneath the cloak suddenly detonating in a sudden, deafening boom.

BOOM.

Tenga's entire body jerked as the shockwave knocked him off his feet, the explosion filling the air with smoke and debris. The blast, precise in its execution, left nothing but a stunned, disoriented figure.

Deidara clicked his tongue. "That was art." He smiled at the wreckage.

"I don't even know how that worked." Teriyaki grumbled. But he was happy the mission was complete.

Teriyaki's smirk stayed as he turned away, walking over to where Tenga now lay unconscious, his body knocked out cold from the sheer force of the blast.

"This was too easy," Teriyaki muttered, crouching down to check Tenga's pulse. The man was alive, but out cold. With a single touch, Teriyaki tied him up with chakra threads, binding him securely.

Deidara stretched, hands on his hips. "We got him. That was... almost boring. Don't you think?"

Teriyaki stood, lifting the unconscious Tenga with little effort. "We've done our part. Let's return before Pain starts making demands again."

I feel victorious... But whenever I look down at this Akatsuki uniform I'm reminded of my real goals.

To gain power.

To gain infamy.

To gain purpose.

But most importantly, to be free from Orochimaru.

In the end what Teriyaki wanted from the start, was freedom.

Power and fame were only second to that.

They vanished into the shadows, Tenga in tow. The journey back to the Akatsuki hideout was quick. Teriyaki felt a sense of satisfaction—one mission completed with no trouble at all. If only things could be this simple all the time.

The stone halls of the Akatsuki hideout loomed ahead as they returned, the dark silhouette of the building looming in the night. Pain was already waiting for them, his figure still and composed, his Rinnegan eyes reflecting no emotion as he studied them.

"You've returned," Pain said, his voice calm and unyielding. "Was the mission successful?"

Deidara gave a mock salute, smirking. "No explosions, no fun. But yeah, we got the guy."

Teriyaki stepped forward, Tenga still in tow. "He's alive and secured. No issues."

Pain's gaze flicked to Teriyaki for a moment, the only acknowledgment of his words. "Good. You've done well. You will be rewarded for this... but remember, this is only the beginning."

"Always is," Teriyaki muttered under his breath. They don't know their plans will never work out.

Pain's eyes hardened, as if hearing the words without truly acknowledging them. "There is still much to be done. Rest. But do not become complacent. Our goal is the only one that matters."

With that, Pain turned and walked off, his silhouette fading into the shadows. The tense moment passed, and Teriyaki couldn't shake the feeling that something far bigger was on the horizon. But I hope my presence doesn't affect the plot too much, lest the world ends.

Teriyaki stood in his room, the door closing softly behind him. The quiet of the hideout was a strange contrast to the chaos he often found himself in, but tonight, there was something different in the air. The mission was over, and there were no immediate orders from Pain, but that didn't mean peace.

He sat on the edge of his bed, wondering about his next steps. The Akatsuki was full of tension, and the air seemed to grow heavier each day. But there was something that gnawed at him, something that had been on his mind for a while now.

Suddenly, there was a rustling sound from the corner of the room. Teriyaki's instincts kicked in, his body tensing immediately.

"Did I forget to lock the door?" Teriyaki muttered, his eyes scanning the room for any threat.

A figure stepped out of the shadows, and Teriyaki's eyes widened for a moment.

Orochimaru.

The pale, serpentine figure stood in the doorway, his yellow eyes gleaming in the low light of the room. The older man's long black hair fell around his face, his smile twisted in a way that Teriyaki could never quite figure out.

"Well, well," Orochimaru said, his voice silky and cold. "It seems you've been quite busy, Teriyaki. A job well done, I must say."

Teriyaki stood slowly, his mind racing. What does he even want from me anymore? Is this just his control fetish? "Orochimaru? Master?"

"What do you want?" Teriyaki asked, his voice low and steady, though his pulse quickened.

Orochimaru's smile widened, and he took a slow step forward, his gaze never leaving Teriyaki. "I just wanted to see how my little creation is doing. It's been some time, after all."

Teriyaki's heart pounded in his chest. "I'm not your creation anymore. I'm almost above you... A snake sage."

"Ha." Orochimaru laughed but his confidence was clearly hurt. "You're my snake sage though."

Orochimaru chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I don't have time to torture you today, lucky you. I'm here by secret as you know."

Teriyaki's fists clenched. "What do you want from me? What is your goal here even? Just to spy on the Akatsuki? Why do you care so much about them?

Orochimaru tilted his head slightly. "Fine, I'll let you see the smallest glimmer of my plans."
