Chapter 202 - 202

(Present Time)

When Jiraiya and Tsunade were knocked back, Tendō tossed aside a fallen teammate like trash. Tsunade's fists clenched in fury, as if she might rush in and fight to the death at any second.

But it was Jiraiya who looked even more stunned. He stared at Tendō's face and struggled to match it with the boy from his memories.

Scraps of paper floated through the air, swirling until they formed Konan's figure beside Tendō. Jiraiya could no longer deny the truth.

"Yahiko... Konan..." His voice was filled with mixed emotions. He couldn't understand why the war orphans he'd raised—his own disciples—would create the Akatsuki. Their goals completely contradicted the peace he'd taught them to seek.

"Sensei Jiraiya, only through pain can people truly understand peace," Tendō said calmly. "If they've never felt the suffering of war, they'll never understand one another. That's why... I'll bring pain to the world. Let the world feel what I've felt. Only then can true understanding exist... only then can peace be real."

Tendō had no regrets. He believed this path—spreading pain—was the only road to peace. And he would walk it to the end.

"Yahiko, no matter what you say, I won't let you destroy Konoha. As your master, it's my duty to bring you back to the right path."

White smoke billowed at Jiraiya's feet, and a massive toad appeared—wearing a shirt, holding a pipe, and gripping a blade. Without hesitation, it slashed at the muddy three-headed dog.

"Tsunade! Go treat the wounded! Their target is Naruto!" Jiraiya shouted, worried she might lose control and charge straight into the fight.

Tsunade's fists slowly relaxed. She turned and summoned a massive white slug, which split into countless smaller slugs that scattered across the battlefield, tending to the wounded.

Kakashi, who had the most knowledge of Pain, remembered clearly: one of the Six Paths had been destroyed by Rossinanti,, yet all six stood before them now. Something was off.

"Are they puppets? Then whoever's controlling them can't be far..." He knew that to end this, he had to find the one pulling the strings.

But the Asura Path (Shuradō) seemed to read his thoughts. Its ten fingers pointed at Kakashi, and several missiles launched from its knuckles, rocketing toward him.

"Kamui!" Kakashi yanked up his forehead protector, revealing his Sharingan. The air twisted into a spiral where the missiles were, warping them into another dimension. When the vortex calmed, they were gone—no one knew what space they'd been sucked into.

"This is going to be a real pain..." Kakashi muttered. First, he had to deal with the Asura Path in front of him.

Jiraiya's summoned beast, Gamabunta, was locked in a brutal fight. He split the muddy three-headed dog in half with one swing, but the creature just reformed—now two identical smaller versions stood in its place.

In the sky, the Animal Path's (Chikushōdō) bird circled and dropped explosives that continued to devastate Konoha below. The rest of Konoha's shinobi gave everything to protect their home. They would not let it fall.

Outside the village, a small boy broke free from his mother's arms. His face was still immature, but determination burned in his eyes. He didn't care about arrogant ninja or old grudges—this was his home, too.

"Eight Gates—Open!" he shouted.

If Aburame Hatsuizumi or Guy-sensei had been there, they'd be stunned. The same boy who once swore to change his fate had actually begun to master the Hachimon (Eight Gates). Even if it was only the First Gate, he'd come far from being a powerless commoner.

He dashed straight into Konoha's chaos without looking back, ignoring his mother's desperate cries.

Tsunade's slugs didn't make much difference. Pain's Six Paths rarely left survivors—no matter how skilled she was, even she couldn't heal the dead. The body count kept rising. She couldn't just stand by.

A black seal spread from her forehead—Byakugō no In (Strength of a Hundred Seal). The only way to stop the bloodshed was to crush the one causing it. She knew the Preta Path (Gakidō) could absorb ninjutsu, so she used brute force instead.

"Painful Kick!" she yelled.

She leapt high into the air. Cracks split across the ground before her heel even landed. If that attack connected, it would be devastating.

The Preta Path didn't flinch. It didn't matter if she avoided ninjutsu—Tendō could still knock her away with Shinra Tensei (Almighty Push).

But this was Tsunade and Jiraiya—two of the Legendary Sannin. Their teamwork was flawless. As Tsunade's kick came down, Jiraiya charged with a Rasengan aimed directly at Tendō. One of their strikes would definitely land.

"Pah—!" Tendō batted away Jiraiya's Rasengan, sending him flying. But Tsunade's heel connected, smashing the Preta Path to pieces.

Two small toads appeared on Jiraiya's shoulders. His features shifted—his skin roughened, eyes changed—halfway into Sennin Mōdo (Sage Mode). Not perfect yet, but close.

"How's Naruto?" he asked quietly.

"He's improved," one of the toads replied. "He's drawing natural energy much faster now."

"Let's go!" Jiraiya roared, charging up a massive Rasengan again.

"Give it up, Jiraiya-sensei," Tendō said, cold and calm. "You cannot shake the power of a god..."

From the mouth of the King of Hell, the Preta Path emerged again—revived. The Naraka Path (Jigokudō) had brought it back.

Tendō clasped his hands together. A massive wave of repulsive force blasted out, sending Jiraiya and the others flying.

Konan reappeared, paper swirling like a snowstorm. Razor-sharp paper blades spun and exploded. Detonation tags were hidden inside, turning everything into a minefield. Many were caught in the blasts, suffering deep wounds.

Gamabunta struggled under the weight of the summoned beasts' growing numbers. The Asura Path's explosive weapons caused chaos, second only to Tendō's own destruction. Konoha burned, and rubble piled higher by the second.

"...Is this the power of a god?" someone whispered in despair.

Some fell to their knees, trembling. They watched friends die, souls sucked out, tongues ripped and devoured. The enemy had only come for the Nine-Tails... so why did everyone else have to suffer?

"This is all... because of that Nine-Tails Jinchūriki..."

Anger and resentment toward Naruto began to grow in their hearts.

Floating above it all, Tendō's voice echoed through the ruined village.

"Do you understand pain now?"
