Chapter 2227.2: No Mercy

Lu Yun swallowed gently as he looked at the fist-sized world of true water in front of him. Its aura was calm and measured, like it was a ball of water without any qi. Those who lacked a sufficient cultivation level weren’t even able to sense the world inside the treasure.

Although the young man had experienced all three thousand lifetimes, he recalled them in the form of dreams. He needed to comprehend them anew for himself. He cultivated the Nine Chapters of Dao now and was constantly baptized by dao. His cultivation grew at a rapid pace and he’d long gained the mindset of an empyrean immortal.

Hummm!

The dao character seat cushion that his nascent soul sat upon in his dantian suddenly released a ray of gray splendor. It flared out of his body and enveloped the cerulean world of true water.

“Hmm?” Surprised delight flashed through his eyes.

Slight ripples surged over the treasure in front of him and rays of illumination flowed out of it, becoming one with the gray haze emanating from the dao character.

A refreshing stream flowed out of the ball and gently nourished Lu Yun’s body. An extremely comfortable feeling flooded through his body and he lost himself in the sensation.

The fist-sized world of true water bloomed with cerulean radiance and cocooned him with it. With that, the treasure gradually shrank into a speck of dust that entered Lu Yun’s forehead.

Humm!

His dantian shook as the treasure appeared within it. The power of water gushed from it to become part of his core essence. His spirit root of dual elements suddenly saw the addition of a third—water!

Lu Yun’s spirit root was now wood, fire, and water. They sustained and countered each other in a never-ending cycle. His Hongmeng qi began circling at a faster pace as well. The power of water split into two—part of it was absorbed by the Builder Tree sapling in Lu Yun’s body and the other part melded with the Hongmeng qi.

Lu Yun’s cultivation surged forward without restraint and he arrived at peak soul separation.

“Builder Tree, world of true water…” Understanding dawned in Lu Yun’s mind. “The world of true water is a treasure on the same level as the Builder Tree. I still need to refine two more, one of earth and another of metal, before I can alter my spirit root into an empyrean spirit root of the five elements…”

Wood, fire, and water circulated in his outstretched hand. Black connate kui water gathered in his palm through the Connate Great Dao of the Five Elements. Just like the power of wood, Lu Yun could now utilize connate kui water of the north as he wished.

“My command over water and wood has reached perfection, I’ve yet to obtain metal and wood, but my mastery of connate fire is lacking…” After a quick comparison, Lu Yun discovered that wood and water dominated his spirit root. Fire should’ve been the strongest of the three, but it was actually on weaker footing.

“Do I need to find another fire attribute treasure to make my spirit root whole?” Only through comparison was there discovery. With the addition of water to his spirit root, Lu Yun noticed several things that he hadn’t before.

His nascent soul sat in the middle of his dantian with the Builder Tree, sword pagoda, and world of true water forming a triangle around it. At the same time, they were on even footing with Lu Yun’s nascent soul.

The Seal of the Multitude sat beneath the nascent soul like it was an offering table, lifting the nascent soul up high.

“Refining the world of true water has brought my cultivation to peak soul separation. All I need to do is exit Immortal Burial Valley and take a Dao Rune Pill. I’ll instantly break through to combination stage!”

He brimmed with confidence as while he hadn’t claimed the rules within the world of true water, his strength had undergone a fundamental shift.

“I wonder what the perverse geniuses of Great Xia are like. The young man who scared off Yan Guichi in Dark City, for example, is only a nascent soul cultivator…” While Lu Yun’s strength had bounded forward, he didn’t let it go to his head and think he was invincible. Even a reincarnated immortal emperor ran the chance of perishing before he fully grew into his strength.

He left the seed stage world with another hand seal, unable to refine it given his current level of strength. Since he couldn’t take it with him, he had to leave it here.

While he’d once owned it, that experience was just a dream. In other words, the High Lord of the Northern Sky was Lu Yun, but Lu Yun was not that august personage.

“I have to reach dao immortal first before I can take this space with me.” He turned and left without a glance back. The only evidence that the northern immortal emperor had ever existed was just this perfectly preserved seed storage world.

……

The number of cultivators in the place of burial had greatly decreased. With the departure of the Great Xia cultivators, it was nigh impossible for those from worlds of cultivation to survive in the face of the terrifying vicious spirits and countless unknown dangers. Thus, those with a thorough knowledge of their own limitations filtered out of Immortal Burial Valley.

“I’ve gotten enough here, I’ll leave the rest to those who are fortunate enough to happen upon these opportunities.” When Lu Yun scanned the area with the Heavenly Eye, he found many treasures still to be collected. There were even a few intact connate treasures that could be found, but he left them alone. All should proceed as they were meant to.

He’d lost the desire to remain after obtaining Yan Beifei’s memories. If it wasn’t for Sagittarii Hall raising his curiosity, he would’ve left long ago.

Since Origination Mountain had appeared in the Celestial Realm Battlefront, he wanted to pay it a visit as well. But with the rules of the heavenly book yet to settle back into place, the Jade Ruins Realm portion was still sealed shut.

There were only three days left until they returned, so Lu Yun made for the exit of the formation array. The second he walked through it, a dozen strong consciousnesses locked onto him and scanned him all over.

“You, open your storage ring for inspection,” said a nasally empyrean immortal dressed in black robes. He descended from the skies and landed in front of Lu Yun.

Great Xia cultivators had been transported back to the immortal dynasty through the rules of the heavenly book gathered here. That meant whoever walked out of the formation array was from a world of cultivation.

No matter how impressive their backgrounds were, they could not compare to Great Xia immortals. Thus, many from the dynasty stood guard here and seized the treasures from any cultivator who walked out.

Blood had been spilt on the ground and more than a few cultivators had been killed for their refusal to give up their fortunes.

“Are you looking to die?” Lu Yun hissed after understanding the situation at hand.

“What did you say?” The immortal blinked, seemingly not having heard Lu Yun clearly.

“I said, are you looking to die?” Uncontrollable killing intent rose in Lu Yun’s heart when he looked at the ground and the fresh blood stains. Countless cultivators had risked their lives in the place of burial and barely managed to reach beyond the fingertips of Great Xia cultivators to secure a fortuitous opportunity. They’d thought that they would soar to the heavens after leaving, but met their doom instead.

When they saw what was happening, numerous cultivators wanted to wait for the heavenly book to return to its place. It would be safe when immortals left Jade Ruins Realm. However, the land inside the formation array had become a sea of vicious spirits. Even though they knew how to kill the spirits, they could not kill them all.

“I am not a saint, so what do these things have to do with me? I, Lu Yun, am a cultivator of Jade Ruins Realm in this lifetime. I live as one of them and die as one of them. I can bully and kill them as I will, but if anyone else does so… Most of the dead are Jade Ruins cultivators…” Lu Yun took a deep breath, finally understanding why so many cultivators were gathered at the entrance. They would rather be slaughtered by the vicious spirits than walk out. They were fully aware of what was taking place on the other side.

He suddenly recalled that some people had tried to stop him before he exited, but he’d ignored them.

Whoosh!

Crimson splendor sparkled in his hand and a blazing sun rose to hover in the air.

“Any immortal not from Jade Ruins Realm who dare approaches within five hundred kilometers of the formation array will be shown no mercy! No mercy! No mercy!”

……

The young man’s shouts echoed over the land, drawing raised heads from the assembly. People’s eyes widened when they saw the wheel of piercing light that shone like a second sun. Cultivators hanging on for dear life at the entrance to the array also looked up. Peering blearily through the curtain of light, they saw a second sun as well.

“You!” gasped the immortal. However, he didn’t even have a chance to scream before the blazing sun descended and burned the latter empyrean immortal to a crisp.

“Kill!” Lu Yun howled at the sky, locking on to another immortal in black. A sword dragon twisted eighteen times in the void and transformed into nine crimson dragons, converging upon the immortal from nine different directions.

BOOM!

A muffled explosion rang out as the immortal slashed the closest dragon with his immortal sword.

Pfft!

Lu Yun’s Eighteen Cerulean Sword Dragons combined the second stroke of the Nine Oscillations of the Heavenly Sword. What could an empyrean immortal do against it?

The terrible force sent him flying while the three sword dragons behind him tore his body and immortal soul to pieces.

“How dare you, child!” Many Great Xia immortals were gathered at the entrance. The dynasty’s cultivators may have left, but they stayed here so they could glean what fat they could from the top. Who would’ve thought that they’d run into a character like Lu Yun?

Seven empyrean immortals joined hands and charged the impudent young man.
