Chapter 40: Chapter 40 Guilty Conscience

Sophie Smith turned over, rubbing her sleepy eyes, not fully awake when a long arm wrapped around her waist.

Her body suddenly froze, holding her breath, not daring to make a sound.

The crazy actions she took last night suddenly flooded into her mind, luckily he hadn’t realized.

Asher Land naturally felt her body’s stiffness, with a slight force of his large hand, he easily turned her around.

"What are you doing?" Sophie was startled, her entire body in a defensive state; this appearance of hers indeed felt guilty like a thief.

"Why are you so afraid of me?" He smirked, "First thing in the morning, I’m not going to eat you."

"I’m not afraid of you." Sophie removed his hand and turned her body, facing away from him.

She really didn’t know how to face him.

Asher Land sat up from the bed, got dressed, yet Sophie still didn’t react.

This woman, could it be that she’s angry about not successfully assassinating him last night? freewēbnoveℓ.com

He didn’t resist; he gave her the chance.

"Hurry up and get up. I have to go back to the office at nine." He urged.

"You can go back by yourself. I don’t want to go with you."

"Do you hate me that much?"

A chilling voice came from above her head. If she had to give an answer, then undoubtedly, it would be yes.

"Yes, I hate you, so do you find it interesting to keep me by your side? You have many women who can make you happy, why won’t you let me go?" She lowered her eyes as if talking to herself, but every word clearly fell into Asher Land’s ears.

Is being with him really that miserable for her?

"Let you go?" He chuckled disdainfully, "Of course I’ll let you go, only I haven’t gotten tired of playing with you yet."

Implying that she is destined to be abandoned by him, maybe in a month, maybe a year. Of course, she wouldn’t naively believe he would have enough patience to play with her for a year, that would be too long.

"Asher, you’re really cruel, I’ve never done anything to wrong you, why do you treat me this way?" Her voice was surprisingly calm.

"Do I need a reason to play with a woman?" He crossed his arms, his gaze straight on her, "Oh, right, a little reminder for you: don’t take things too seriously. While I haven’t tired of you, you can ask me for any material things, otherwise when I lose interest in you, you’ll have nothing."

"What you want, as long as you say it, I’m willing to provide it, of course, except for leaving me."

Sophie no longer spoke; she didn’t want anything. She didn’t want to gain supposed fame and fortune through dirty transactions with him; that would only make her look down on herself even more.

Asher Land’s phone rang incessantly beside him, probably calls from company people. He impatiently dismissed one call after another, eventually just turning off the phone.

It seemed that if she didn’t agree to go with him, he wouldn’t leave here today.

Sophie glanced at the time, sat up from the bed, slowly changed her clothes.

Asher Land’s mouth curved in a smug smile, "Willing to go back with me?"

"No, I’m going downstairs for breakfast." Sophie said decisively.

Asher Land’s handsome face immediately turned green.

This woman, refusing a toast only to drink a forfeit, must he use force?
