Chapter 239 - Aokiji, How About We Team Up and Take Down Akainu?

The concert hall was a mess.

Medics were swarming around, giving the injured Celestial Dragons emergency care. They carefully lifted them onto stretchers, ready to rush them to the nearest hospital.

A Rear Admiral, looking worried, approached Roya. He spoke respectfully, "Vice Admiral Black Hair, have you seen the ones who did this?"

Roya casually pointed west. "They ran that way." He gestured towards a large hole in the wall, making his story seem more believable.

"Thank you, Vice Admiral!" The Rear Admiral bowed quickly and hurried his team westward, hot on the trail.

"Oh dear, we're too late!"

"Hmph."

Admirals Akainu and Aokiji arrived, their faces grim.

They knew Roronoa Zoro, one of the main troublemakers, was on Island 33. Cavendish, another culprit, was also supposed to be here.

But the crowd had scattered, and even the bodies had been removed by the Marines. Only Roya remained, sitting on the stage, seemingly unconcerned.

"Yo!" Roya spotted Akainu and Aokiji, raising an eyebrow in greeting. "Didn't expect two Marine Admirals to show up."

"Vice Admiral Roya!" Akainu's voice was like ice. "You were here. How could such a disgrace happen?"

"Akainu, my friend," Roya drawled, stretching out languidly. "I'm on vacation... or rather, I'm suspended, reflecting on my actions. I have no power, no responsibilities."

"So, pirates attacked the Celestial Dragons? Not my problem! I have no duty to protect them!"

"You!" Akainu sputtered, speechless.

Aokiji looked equally displeased. Being scolded by a Vice Admiral, right to their faces, was a huge blow to their pride!

Roya smirked, his eyes full of disdain.

"It took you two Admirals a whole half-hour to get here after the attack started."

"If I hadn't stepped in and saved Shalria, she'd be dead. What would you have done? Collected her body?"

"And you dare question me? Useless!" freēwēbηovel.c૦m

Useless?

Akainu's anger flared. "Who are you calling useless!"

"Eh, don't misunderstand, I'm not singling you out."

Roya waved his hand, his gaze sweeping over the two Admirals, a sneer twisting his lips. "I mean both of you are useless!"

"..."

Akainu was fuming.

Aokiji's face darkened like a thundercloud.

Wasn't Black Hair being a bit too harsh?

"What? Got a problem with that?"

Roya stood up, grabbing a trophy from a nearby table.

"See this?"

"The Yibell Peace Prize! Only those who've done great things for world peace get this!"

"You're just mere Admirals!"

"I'm not just a Marine Vice Admiral who's captured countless pirates, but also the Yibell Peace Prize winner, founder of the Peace Foundation, a man who's made huge contributions to the world!"

"Do you understand? My status is completely different from yours!"

"Address me with respect!"

Aokiji was stunned.

This is my first time meeting Roya, and it's truly eye-opening. I thought the rumors about Black Hair were exaggerated, but now I realize they're an understatement.

I've never seen such an arrogant person!

I really want to beat him up!

"Roya!"

Akainu's fist turned into molten magma.

He was boiling with rage!

They were here to catch criminals, to do their duty. They didn't have time to argue with Roya, but being insulted like this would make anyone angry.

Besides, they were Admirals!

Being scolded by a superior was one thing, but Roya was just a Vice Admiral!

Roya scoffed, "If you think I'm wrong, tell me how. I saved Shalria's life, and hundreds of Marines saw it. What about you?"

"..."

They had no comeback!

Flames danced in Akainu's eyes.

They were indeed late, but that's because Marine Headquarters was far from Sabaody. If they had been on the island, they would have arrived instantly.

But there were no ifs.

Being scolded and unable to argue filled them with fury.

"Roya, I don't have time for this. Headquarters will judge your dereliction of duty." Akainu, trying to control his temper, turned to leave.

Catching Cavendish and Roronoa Zoro was the priority, to appease the Celestial Dragons.

Delaying any longer meant they might escape.

"Aww, scared one away."

Roya made a sarcastic comment and turned to Aokiji. "Aokiji, my friend, aren't you going after him?"

"I don't want to work with him." Aokiji shook his head and walked towards the back of the hall.

"Then let's go together." Roya put his hands in his pockets and followed Aokiji.

He still needed to stall Zoro and Cavendish's escape.

"Aokiji, I have an idea!" Roya walked backward, looking at Aokiji. "You really hate Akainu, right? What if we team up and take him down?"

"Oh my, don't joke around." Aokiji rolled his eyes.

I can't tell if Roya is serious or not. If I casually agree, this guy might really drag me off to beat up Akainu.

"Ah, if you're not interested, forget it." Roya sighed, his tone suggesting deeper meaning. "Marshal Sengoku is getting old. He'll have to retire in a year or two. Who do you think will be the next Marshal, Aokiji?"

"..."

Aokiji's heart sank.

The next Marine Marshal will definitely be one of the current Admirals. Kizaru has the lowest chance.

It's not just age. Kizaru is lazy and has no interest in power. He's the least ambitious of us all.

In reality, I don't care about the Marshal's position either. I usually slack off, but I can't tolerate Akainu leading the Marines or the twisted justice he represents.

The Ohara incident is a scar that will never heal.

"Hey, Aokiji." Roya grinned, his eyes sparkling.

"We team up, take down Akainu, you become Marshal, and I become an Admiral. How about we work together to make the Marines better?"

"..."

Aokiji stared at Roya.

I thought Roya was joking, but he's really ambitious!

"Don't joke around." Aokiji coldly shook his head, ending the conversation. Such words could have serious consequences if overheard.

"Haha, just a joke."

Roya laughed, but he was disappointed in Aokiji.

With so little courage, how can he compete with Akainu for the Marshal's position, how can he change the Marines, and how can he achieve anything?

Marshal Sengoku is already 76. Even without the Summit War, he'll retire in two years at most.

If he has any plans, he should be preparing to compete now. It'll be too late when he's forced into a corner.

To end up a disgraced runaway, joining forces with pirates.

A Marine Admiral shouldn't fall so low.

"I'll go find Akainu later."

Roya realized he couldn't rely on Aokiji. It wasn't that he wasn't strong, but he lacked the courage to lead the Marines.

I can't become a Marshal. I don't have enough experience, prestige, or rank, so I need to pick a side.

I heard Akainu has a daughter...
