33 -29: Fierce Battle

Upon entering the battlefield, Luo’er was filled with a certain amount of regret.

He and Tangmo were about to face an army of hundreds, and in adherence to the competition’s firepower limitation rules, he had handed over the team’s most powerful weapon to Hu Daoke.

He was only allowed an AK47 automatic rifle as his own weapon.

He would have been more confident if he could have changed his current weapon to an RPK light machine gun at that moment.

He and Tangmo were lurking at the roadside, a mandatory passageway for the convoy, ready to ambush the vehicles at the right moment.

Meanwhile, Hu Daoke was hidden not far from them.

He would wait until the knights were lured away before launching the RPG towards the target.

“Luo’er, last night Yue’er and I slept on your bed.

Where did you sleep?” Tangmo suddenly asked.

“The couch!” Luo’er simply replied.

“Nonsense, Little Ke was clearly sleeping on the couch,” Tangmo retorted.

Luo’er remained silent, hesitant to admit that he had spent the previous night sleeping on the floor.

Although he had not slept well, entering the virtual machine was pretty much like sleeping, so he didn’t mind that much.

“Honestly, why didn’t you come to sleep with us on the bed?” Tangmo said with a look of concern on her face.

“Well…” Luo’er didn’t know what to say, he just started feeling hot in the face, “Isn’t it inappropriate given we are not a couple?”

“What’s inappropriate about it?

I wouldn’t have rejected you,” Tangmo innocently countered.

“That’s not the point…” Luo’er replied awkwardly.

“What’s the problem then?” Tangmo pouted, “And besides, Yue’er clearly likes you.

She was calling your name all night.”

“Yue’er!” Luo’er almost dropped his jaw in surprise.

“Yes, she was calling for a long time!” Tangmo added, looking gloomy.

“Why didn’t I hear it?” Luo’er recalled what Cheng Ziang had told him the night before and broke out in a cold sweat.

“How could you hear her sleep talking?

I was the one who was holding her while sleeping!” Tangmo lamented, looking even gloomier.

“I only met her when we were teamed up in the game!” Luo’er defended innocently.

“Really?” Tangmo questioned suspiciously.

“Why are you giving me a suspicious look?” Luo’er asked her.

“Well, it’s because I like you, Luo’er!” Tangmo looked straight at him as she confessed.

Luo’er could feel his face heating up and his ears starting to burn.

He turned away, fearful Tangmo might notice his flushed face.

He was completely unprepared for her forthright confession.

“Well…

I…” Luo’er began to babble.

“Luo’er, your face is going red, and so are your ears!” Tangmo said, her eyes gleaming with curiosity.

“It’s not appropriate to bring up such matters at this time, is it?” Luo’er awkwardly tried to change the subject.

“Why not?

Shouldn’t feelings be voiced?” Tangmo asked confusedly.

“Well, what exactly do you like about me?” Luo’er asked nervously.

“Hmm…

I don’t know, I just feel really comfortable when you’re around,” Tangmo shared after some thought.

“Really…” Luo’er breathed a sigh of relief.

“Luo’er, you…”

Just as Tangmo was about to ask something else, Luo’er suddenly covered her mouth.

He quietly pointed towards the end of the road and said solemnly, “They’re coming, check your weapons!”

With that, he loaded his rifle and pointed it towards the direction where the convoy was expected to appear.

At the end of the road, a group of about ten heavy cavalry appeared.

They were probably scouts as they were checking the dense forests on both sides of the path carefully, tense and alert.

“Let them pass,” he whispered, receding his gun and lowering his body to avoid being spotted by their careful eyes.

After the knights had passed, another group of cavalry arrived, following them was the convoy, filled with identical carriages, designed to confuse the attackers.

“This is getting a bit troublesome,” murmured Luo’er, frowning.

“What should we do, Luo’er?” Tangmo inquired.

“Don’t worry; we will try to attack one of the carriages first.

If it’s the right target, we’ll be in luck.

However, given the current situation, there’s a good chance we might not make it out of here, so brace yourself!” Luo’er said, aiming his gun once again at the distant convoy.

“As long as I’m with you, there’s nothing for me to be afraid of!” Tangmo asserted determinedly.

“Eh…” Luo’er turned to look at her, unsure of what to say.

He shut his mouth and focused on the task at hand.

“Prepare to attack!” As the convoy grew closer, Luo’er reminded Tangmo to prepare for battle and switched his rifle to full automatic mode.

“Three!”

“Two!”

Before he could say “one”, an explosion sounded from the rear of the convoy, followed by the rapid gunfire of machine guns.

Luo’er held down Tangmo, who almost jumped up in anxiety.

They both hunched down and observed the battlefield.

They saw bullets raining down from the dense forest, attacking the back of the convoy.

Several knights and mages were instantly swept off their horses.

Luo’er noticed that when bullets hit the knights’ armors, small but dazzling white lights would flash, indicating the Anti-Magic Glyph was neutralizing the Rune on the armor.

“Something’s wrong,” Luo’er instinctively looked at the position where Hu Daoke was hiding and said, “There are only two full automatic weapons in our team, mine and Little Ke’s.

This attack should be from a rival team.”

“What shall we do?” Tangmo asked nervously over her Magic Wand.

“Wait!” Luo’er examined the situation.

Due to the sudden attack, most of the convoy’s guards were drawn towards the machine-gun fire.

However, a squad was still scouting ahead.

Luo’er decided to wait for them and attack them together, adding chaos to the scene.

The vanguard cavalry, alerted by the noise, also rushed in to aid the convoy.

Luo’er decided he was done waiting.

He sprang up from the ground and directly fired his rifle at the cavalry, simultaneously shouting, “Moumou, attack the carriage!”

“Ratatatatatat!!!”

The automatic rifle emptied its magazine in mere seconds, scattering bullets amongst the tightly packed knight squad and causing them to fall from their horses.

The white flashes on the knight’s armor grew more numerous as they fell.

Meanwhile, Moumou stood up, chanting spells.

A fireball shot out, targeting one of the carriages.

The explosion left a huge, charred hole in the carriage.

Everything inside was instantly incinerated.

“It’s empty!” Tangmo shouted.

“Next one!” Luo’er, while covering Tangmo, reloaded his rifle and continued to fire at the oncoming knights.

Their bodies tumbled to the ground, some even rolled towards their feet.

Tangmo, still reciting spells, conjured dozens of ice spikes that targeted another carriage.

Both horse and carriage were riddled with holes, yet, this carriage also turned out to be empty.

Some knights and mages had already surrounded them and began to attack.

They had no choice but to retreat from their hiding place.

Suddenly, many ice spikes erupted from the ground, piercing both knights and horses alike.

This was the Magic Array Trap that Tangmo had set up earlier, reinforced with Magic Crystals.

Luo’er fired another volley at the approximate direction of the mages, suppressing their magic casting.

As he turned to flee, a shockwave shook the ground, causing the road beneath the convoy to explode with the force of a large-caliber shell.

The knights and their horses were thrown high into the air, dirt and debris spraying into the air.

Even the runes of the carriages did not offer protection against the destructive force.

The last carriage, further away from the center of the explosion, was not severely damaged, but the horses were evidently terrified and started to bolt.

“We can’t let it get away!” Luo’er practically shouted and, disregarding the pursuing enemies, turned and ran towards the carriage.

Seeing Luo’er turn around, Tangmo stopped retreating and followed him towards the carriage.

Fortunately, Hu Daoke, the ambusher he had set up, began to act.

Hu stood up abruptly, slung the RPG7 rocket-launcher over his shoulder, and fired directly at the runaway carriage.

A missile, trailing flames, soared towards the carriage and hit it directly.

An intense white light followed the hit, and the carriage keeled over.

The lethal metal jet penetrated the carriage, and they even heard horrifying screams from within.

Immediately thereafter, Hu Daoke swiftly dropped the rocket-launcher and picked up one equipped with a Cloud Explosion Bomb, aimed at the overturned carriage, and fired again.

“Damn!” Luo’er felt a chill run down his spine.

He halted his charge, turned around, and tackled Tangmo to the ground.

The missile hit the carriage, and the shell immediately tore open, releasing a fog that quickly engulfed the entire carriage.

“Cover your ears!”

Luo’er shouted.

After a brief moment of silence, a huge fireball engulfed the carriage.

The shockwave was clearly visible as it radiated outward from the carriage.

Then came the deafening boom, and they could even see a small mushroom cloud rising into the air.

Luo’er felt the shock wave grating against his body, sending a tingling sensation throughout his body, followed by a searing wave of heat.

Even at their distance, they were still affected.

Many of the knights and mages who were chasing them were terrified by the successive explosions and scrambled away in fear.

“Pop!”

A red flare shot up into the sky – the signal for retreat.

Without hesitation, Luo’er helped a shaken Tangmo to her feet and they made a frantic dash towards the extraction point.

Upon reaching the extraction point, they found Hu Daoke already there, leaning against a tree and gasping for air.

The thrill of the operation left his heartbeat still racing.

“Nice, brother!” Luo’er extended his hand and high-fived a relieved Hu Daoke.

“What about the others?” Hu Daoke caught his breath and asked.

Cheng Ziang sauntered out of the dense woods, whistling casually with a blade coated in blood on his shoulder.

Following him was Baiyue, emotionless, dressed in a ghillie suit and holding a rifle.

Luo’er felt relieved.

It wasn’t easy for all five of them to come out of such an operation unscathed.

During the planning stage, Luo’er had accounted for sacrificing himself and Tangmo as potential costs.

With the convoy annihilated and the knights and mages in chaos, they had essentially completed their task.

All that was left was awaiting the verdict of the referees.

The scoring board was suddenly displayed, and Luo’er saw they had completed the task and won the competition.

This meant they were eligible to challenge the champion.

Excited, Luo’er glanced at the scoreboard of the rival team and was suddenly taken aback.
