721: Operation Arid Soil : Part Thirty-Two

Though, right at this instant, the human living had no way out and could only agree to the demands of his captors, certainly a window of opportunity would arise at one point, even without his dagger and thus, without a way to channel Illusory Undeviginti’s vapour, he still remained a competent rogue, the decorated weapons were not handed out to anyone after all.

One needed to show certain qualities and the likes to even have a shot at earning one for themselves.

Naturally, said qualities depended on which Undeviginti you followed, he himself had been a thief and scoundrel for most of his life before being taken in into the worship of Illusory Undeviginti, he had been incapable of wielding the vapour on his own, but his efforts had been rewarded with this singular object.

Even without the depictions on the sides, a steel weapon was incredibly rare on the desert, which was another reason why he felt so tense, the horrid-looking behind all around him wielded all sorts of weapons, made from materials he did not recognise nor had even the most basic of knowledge about, Ir’Houwl scimitars were crafted from a black stone, but the only sort of stone in the desert was sandstone, and it was not fit to be crafted into weaponry.

At best you could throw bits and such, but actually carving it into a shape and then wielding it for more than a day without it breaking into pieces would be considered an extraordinary feat, they all seemed strong as well, even if their disorganised looks and appearance made them appear as roaming bandits, it was easy enough to tell that they were awfully organised and loyal to their leader, each possessing impressive individual strength.

In sum, they were like an army, something the desert did not, and could not possess due to scarcity of resources and the harsh environment that prevented the people from multiplying and easily constructing, the only true major powers were the cults dedicated to Undeviginti.

He had to escape and spread the news before these abominations got to them first, if they were caught disorganised and by surprise, they would never be able to even escape with their lives, much less actually fight back.

‘Good thing they seem to be wary of Prime Undeviginti’s sunlight… They can’t just do whatever they want, whenever they want…’

“So, what can that pink vapour do?” asked Ir’Houwl as she noticed the living spacing out, she had seen vapour in usage a few times now, the watchful one’s hunters with pale blue vapour, the bone puppets of the sanguine one with pale red vapour and the illusory one’s vapour just a little while ago.

The first had been mostly using it to provide themselves with a very precise buff that was attuned to themselves a great deal, but there had also been a more special ability used by the assassin as well as the archer and of course, the knight had manipulated the pure white sand at that time.

The second had been using it to keep themselves together and also offensively, although it was still mostly a personal enhancement.

As for the last, this living had used the pink vapour to render themselves invisible and more discreet, and also to cast illusions of themselves.

Ir’Houwl’s current assumption was that all vapour should be able to grant a certain amount of control upon their respective sand, as it seemed to change too depending on which Undeviginti was currently in control, the sand during Illusory Undeviginti’s time had not changed, but she attributed it to another illusion.

She was comparing it all to mana, Prime Undeviginti’s vapour would be like basic mana, and the rest would be like elements, all could probably be used for an infinite amount of things, but excelled in certain domains, she would just need to figure out which exactly.

Although she defeated him with incredible ease, the living before her had actually shown rather high proficiency and diversity with the vapour, and she wanted to know if even him would have more to show, so as to know what to expect from others and those more powerful than him, such as those that did not require a catalyst to control the vapour.

First, the living demonstrated the same two tricks he had already shown, and took his time doing so, obviously trying to buy some time, shame that he did not realise that time was a currency with a most derisory value to the undead, who had quite literally an infinite amount of it to go by.

Though, she still hit him over the the head with one of her sheathed blade for thinking that he could mess with her like that, which required the poor fellow to get tended to by the doctor as she cracked his skull, which she claimed was an oopsie on her part, but had been totally intentional.

The minor lord was not a fan of defiant livings, especially those that were defiant when they had no right to even imagine that they could do anything other than obey to save their skin.

The third trick he showed was a rather simple smoke screen, the little fool attempted to make himself invisible so that his captors would think that he was gone, but not only was that unlikely to work anyways, but he once again forgot a crucial element to actually make it look convincing, the depression of his knees against the soft ground had remained the same, making it pretty obvious that he was there, and also, Ir’Houwl confirmed that he wasn’t concealing his presence and form from all forms of senses.

Echolocation and thermal vision worked just fine on him, probably because it wasn’t something he had ever encountered and thus, did not think to guard against.

Normally, when one was very good at using a spell, it would cover up for areas that the caster himself did not always think about, for example, Maliah, The Death Dealer, did not need to think about using stealth against such means anymore, she was so sneaky that just willing to disappear was enough for every form of senses and detection to utterly fail to pick up her presence.

That woman was so discreet, that she could even vanish from the minds of people, Ir’Houwl had seen it on action, and it was certainly impressive.

The living before the minor lord however, not so impressive, not quite bad, but certainly not good either.

He showed many more things that were mostly different uses of the same type of ability, before claiming to be too tired to keep using the vapour, and that he could show the rest the day after.

‘This guy really is taking me for an idiot… But alright, he clearly is just showing the same thing in a different wrapping at this point, so a change in tactic should not hurt’
