Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 606 - 605: Altaria and the Move Draco Meteor
Chapter 606 - 605: Altaria and the Move Draco Meteor
Cain observed Regi's movements without interrupting him. Beside him, Aurelia grew increasingly anxious.
At that moment, Nidoking was injured. If they joined forces, they might still have a chance to defeat him, but if Nidoking recovered, Aurelia feared that even united, they wouldn't stand a chance.
"Regi, with all your meticulous plans, doesn't it seem like a waste that, in the end, nothing worked out?" Cain said.
"Waste? What waste?"
"I was so close to achieving it, and if I hadn't tried, I wouldn't have even had the chance to cross that door. How would we know it isn't the greatest treasure on the island?" Regi replied while continuing to heal Nidoking, trying to buy time by talking with Cain.
There was no need to hide anything anymore; after all, both sides had severed ties, and the possibility of future cooperation was out of the question.
"True, though I must admit what intrigues me the most is your true identity. It's not normal for someone in the inner circle of the great Master Surge to have access to so many resources, information, and connections, enough to know about this island and its ruins," Cain commented, voicing a long-standing doubt.
Regi paused his treatment for a moment and smiled enigmatically.
"The truth is, the only one here who doesn't know my identity is you, Cain. I haven't tried to hide it. Ask anyone, and you'll get the answers you seek."
This answer confused Cain. Indeed, he had never bothered to ask others about Regi. Realizing this, he let out an ironic smile and stopped worrying about it. At this point, Regi's origin didn't matter.
"So? Is Nidoking ready?" Cain asked.
"Almost. Do you have a trick up your sleeve, Cain? You seem very confident," Regi replied, having taken full advantage of the time Cain had given him to heal Nidoking as much as possible. novelbuddy.cσ๓
For Regi, once Nidoking recovered, the battle was as good as won. Though they had lost many Pokémon, Nidoking, his strongest combatant, was still ready to fight and could defeat Cain.
Aurelia, standing behind Cain, displayed an expression of great unease. She hesitated about whether she should continue fighting alongside Cain.
Unlike Cain, she knew Regi's true identity and understood that they couldn't let him die. At most, the best course was to stop Nidoking, not kill him.
But Nidoking, thanks to Cain's inaction, was already regaining his strength and power. Aurelia wondered where Cain's confidence to face this situation came from.
After a brief hesitation, Aurelia gritted her teeth and said softly, "I'm sorry, Cain!"
Then, she turned and fled swiftly. Jynx followed her, glancing back wistfully at Slowking, but ultimately disappearing with Aurelia down the corridor.
Regi and the other two didn't move to stop her; in fact, they were more than happy to see her go.
For his part, Cain didn't stop her either, as his alliance with Aurelia had always been one of convenience. Now that she had left, there was no point in insisting she stay.
Cain, on the contrary, appreciated Aurelia's decision. He understood that surviving to this point required a certain cunning to know when to retreat.
As Aurelia disappeared down the corridor, she had already decided never to return. Her plan was to search for some resources on the island before leaving forever. For her, the island's great treasures no longer mattered; survival was her priority.
"Looks like your ally has abandoned you. Still feeling confident?" Ren mocked, a victorious smile on his face.
However, Regi's expression was one of concern. He was watching Cain closely, but he didn't see any signs of panic. Not even his facial expression had changed; he still bore the same confidence.
What did that mean?
Could it be that Cain had a trump card capable of dealing with Nidoking?
With his full team of Pokémon in perfect condition, could he still be at a disadvantage?
Doubt began clouding Regi's mind. If his Pokémon hadn't been so severely injured, even with a Pokémon as powerful as Nidoking on the field, they wouldn't have much to worry about. However, now things seemed to favor Cain.
"What's the matter? Not planning to attack? If you're not, then I will," Cain said with an ironic smile, completely ignoring Ren's words.
To Cain, Ren was a hotheaded fool, incapable of thinking clearly. Even so, he couldn't understand how someone with such little intelligence had risen to hold such power within the team.
Regi was about to order Nidoking to attack, but Glacius, who had remained calm, stopped him with a hand.
Glacius, though now looking dirty and exhausted, had eyes that radiated wisdom. He shook his head, signaling to Regi not to attack. According to him, fighting now would only lead to certain defeat.
It was better to save Nidoking to try capturing other Pokémon on the island and make up for the day's losses.
Regi trusted Glacius far more than Ren and decided to follow his advice.
For his part, Ren, feeling ignored and underestimated, shouted angrily, "Attack, Regi! Attack!"
Cain simply smiled, which only further infuriated Ren. Filled with fury and wounded pride, Ren threw a Pokéball, releasing his Charizard into the room.
Charizard was, alongside Flygon, Ren's strongest Pokémon and now his last hope in this battle. Though Charizard wasn't a true dragon, it carried some draconic blood in its veins, much like Ren.
"Charizard, use Flamethrower!" Ren commanded.
"Fool..." Regi and Glacius muttered simultaneously, feeling frustrated.
It seemed Ren had just made the decision for them. With no other choice, Regi and Glacius turned and began to leave, with Nidoking by their side.
Seeing them leave, Cain wasn't about to let them go so easily. With an enigmatic smile, he tossed a Luxury Ball toward the area they were trying to escape through.
"Altaria, use Draco Meteor!"
