Chapter 637 - 636: The Unfortunate Flygon

After leaving Leafy Town, Cain summoned a new Pokémon.

Flygon!

Yes, this was the same Flygon that had belonged to Ren on Mythical Island, and also the only one of Ren's Pokémon that Cain deemed worthy.

With Ground and Dragon typing, Flygon shares the same typing as Garchomp. However, while Garchomp is known as the "Land Shark Dragon," Flygon is simply referred to as the "Desert Spirit Dragon."

This is because Flygon's primary type is Ground, with Dragon as its secondary type, whereas Garchomp is the opposite—a purebred Dragon.

That was why Ren had held Flygon in such high regard.

Looking at its Egg Moves, it was evident that Flygon's affinity with the Dragon type wasn't particularly strong. And given Ren's lack of talent in Pokémon training, Flygon had only reached a high level without being able to fully tap into its potential.

If Cain had trained Flygon from the beginning, by the time it reached level 49, it would undoubtedly have been capable of standing up to early-stage quasi-elite Pokémon.

In its current state, however, Cain primarily used it as an aerial mount.

Of course, Cain still trained it a little, and if Flygon could adapt to his training style and show significant improvement, Cain wouldn't hesitate to fully accept it.

After all, Dragon-type Pokémon were always valuable and quite rare.

In the future, even the Dragon Champion wouldn't have a Flygon like this. Though perhaps that's because their standards were higher, uninterested in so-called "second-tier dragons."

Flygon was captured by Cain after being taken back from Mythical Island and receiving medical treatment.

Initially, as a proud Dragon-type Pokémon, Flygon didn't want to be Cain's mount. While it had been Ren's mount before, Ren preferred using Charizard, leaving Flygon to be showcased only occasionally.

But there was nothing it could do—Cain had captured it.

For a month, Flygon underwent a series of grueling training sessions: a small battle every day, a major battle every three days, and a group battle once a week. After just a week, Flygon had already learned to behave.

Cain didn't stop there, though. After two additional weeks of training, Flygon finally surrendered completely. Now, just Cain's stern gaze was enough to instill fear in it.

After all, for over a month, Cain's Pokémon hadn't had the chance to engage in combat.

This was especially tough for them, as many were battle enthusiasts. Their only amusement during this time was beating up Flygon.

Without a trainer's guidance, Flygon couldn't maximize its potential. In fact, it was weaker than wild Pokémon.

Weavile, Honchkrow, Slowking, Drapion, and Gengar took turns battling it. Each of them thrashed Flygon so many times that it almost developed a trauma.

Every day, a different Pokémon faced it, then two at once, and by the seventh day, all of them together—including Floette, who appeared calm and kind—joined in.

Eventually, Flygon gave in.

Now, sitting on Flygon's back, Cain was quite comfortable, as Flygon flew steadily.

Additionally, thanks to Flygon's "presence" as a Dragon-type Pokémon, wild Flying-types in the sky dared not provoke it.

After being repressed for a month, Flygon showed these wild Pokémon just how fierce a dragon could be.

It couldn't do anything against Cain's Pokémon, but it had no mercy for the wild ones, brutally striking down anyone that provoked it.

Cain didn't stop it, knowing it was good to release pent-up tension occasionally.

Though, of course, Flygon didn't realize that all this stress was caused by Cain.

On the other hand, Flygon was eating better than ever. Cain was feeding it the same food Cynthia gave her Garchomp, an ideal blend for Ground and Dragon Pokémon, with only slight adjustments to the proportions.

Despite everything, Flygon experienced a mix of pain and pleasure. After a week, it decided to submit to Cain entirely.

Unfortunately for it, Cain's Pokémon continued beating it up for three more weeks.

In the last two weeks, it was only because Honchkrow and the others were bored and wanted a fight.

During that time, Cain also began teaching Flygon some of his battle strategies. How much Flygon could learn depended on its aptitude.

Although Flygon was slimmer than Tropius, both shared a similar frame size, so Cain felt no discomfort riding it.

Flying toward the horizon at dawn, Cain was heading out to accomplish two objectives.

The first was to find the key Pokémon from his past life. According to his timeline, this Pokémon should have been born recently and wouldn't have faced many hardships yet.

Capturing it early and training it well would avoid the issues from his previous life.

The second goal was to locate a Mega Stone that Cain had obtained in his past life but never had the chance to use. Now, with proper knowledge and Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution, the stone could prove useful.

Currently, Cain already had a Mega Stone and a Key Stone he had obtained from Steven. If he found a stone suitable for one of his Pokémon, he would focus on training one to Mega Evolve.

In addition to these two goals, Cain also wanted to emulate Cynthia by challenging strong trainers along the way, using them as practice and boosting his fame in the region.

If he could defeat future Elite Four members or gym leaders before they gained fame, people might say, "So-and-so Elite member was once defeated by Cain..."

If Cain planned to compete for a spot in Hoenn's Elite Four, reputation would be important.

As for the Champion title... well, he could leave that to Steven. Steven didn't seem keen on holding the position for long, and by then, Cain might be ready to compete for it.

This was Cain's current plan.

Following his planned route, the first city he would visit was Rustboro City.

Although he would pass through Verdanturf Town, he wasn't particularly interested, as the gym leader wasn't very strong.

Rustboro City, on the other hand, was one of Hoenn's largest cities and had a well-reputed gym.

Additionally, Steven was still in Rustboro City.
