Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom-Chapter 642 - 641: Total Defeat
Chapter 642 - 641: Total Defeat
This was Floette's first official battle since joining Cain's team.
However, after more than a month of training, it was no longer unfamiliar to her. Internal battles often occurred within the team, especially the daily match against Flygon, in which she always participated.
Upon entering the battlefield, Floette automatically used the move Camouflage, changing her type to Grass.
During this time, Floette had reached level 40 and had gained good mastery of two newly learned moves: Petal Blizzard and Aromatherapy.
Since Floette acquired the ability to change her type to Grass, Cain subjected her to specialized training with Grass-type moves. Now, considering her as a Grass-type Pokémon was not a bad option.
"Floette..." Steven and Roxanne said upon hearing Cain's explanation, pronouncing the Pokémon's name.
They knew about the newly discovered Kalos region but were still unfamiliar with its Pokémon. Even Steven, with his busy schedule, hadn't had much time to research the newly discovered Pokémon.
Only Cynthia recognized Floette immediately, as her constant travels had given her broader knowledge about various Pokémon.
By changing her type to Grass, Floette activated her ability, Flower Veil, which prevents Grass-type allies from having their stats lowered or being affected by status conditions. In this form, Floette was at her best.
Roxanne, on the other hand, found herself at a loss on how to fight a Pokémon she knew nothing about.
From Floette's appearance, she seemed to be a Grass-type Pokémon, which placed Kabutops—her Rock/Water-type Pokémon—at a massive disadvantage, being highly vulnerable to Grass moves.
Finally, after twenty minutes of battle, the outcome was clear. Floette still stood on the battlefield.
Roxanne's defeat was primarily due to three factors. First and foremost, she knew nothing about Floette, which nullified the main advantage of an academically inclined trainer—reliance on knowledge.
The second factor was the type advantage. With Floette's Grass type, Kabutops took four times the damage from Grass-type moves, while his Water moves dealt only half the damage to Floette.
The third crucial factor was Floette's incredible regeneration ability. As long as Kabutops couldn't take her down in one hit, Floette found multiple ways to recover her energy.
Additionally, her mastery of support moves allowed her to control the battle with ease.
The battle lasted so long because Floette completely wore down Kabutops with disorienting and draining moves.
Even Steven, observing from the judges' bench, couldn't help but shiver at Cain's overwhelming strategy.
This victory was achieved purely thanks to Cain's strategic ability.
As the battle progressed, Roxanne began to understand Floette better, but she still couldn't find a way to counter Cain's strategy.
Roxanne joined the club of trainers who found Cain's tactics nauseating. Steven was the first, Cynthia the second, and now Roxanne.
However, Roxanne was the most unfortunate, as at least Steven and Cynthia managed to win, while she was completely defeated by Cain's tactics.
But if anyone suffered more than her, it was Kabutops.
Lying on the ground, Kabutops seemed utterly exhausted.
Realizing she might have gone too far, Floette used the move Grassy Terrain at the end of the battle to heal Kabutops slightly, leaving him on the verge of tears.
He had truly been through a lot.
Finally, Roxanne returned Kabutops to his Poké Ball after he recovered some health.
Roxanne fully felt the difference between herself and Cain, not just in terms of Pokémon strength but also in trainer abilities.
Although she didn't know Cain had the ability of Telepathy, if she had known, she would have felt even worse.
After storing Kabutops' Poké Ball, Roxanne sighed deeply. Despite the uncomfortable battle, she had learned a lot from it.
For her, the final result no longer mattered. She knew she wouldn't have been able to win anyway.
Her last Pokémon was Golem.
With a light blue hue, Golem had reached level 43. However, being a Rock/Ground type, he was four times weak to Water and Grass moves.
Cain could have chosen Slowking or Floette again to easily defeat Golem.
But he decided to use Drapion.
After a long time without battling, Drapion entered the field with an imposing presence, demonstrating his power.
"Chaaa!"
Golem, seeing this much larger Drapion, began to understand how Kabutops must have felt.
Drapion didn't fight from a distance like Slowking or wear down his opponent like Floette. As the strongest physical Pokémon on Cain's team, Drapion simply lifted Golem into the air with his arms.
Roxanne stood speechless at such a display of strength.
Standing over two and a half meters tall, this Drapion was much larger and stronger than any she had seen before.
Seeing this scene, Roxanne knew she had been completely defeated.
Cain had defeated her three Pokémon with his own without the slightest effort.
Although all were in the advanced level, the difference in trainer skills was evident.
Despite the defeat, Roxanne had learned a lot from this battle. It gave her many ideas on how to apply academic knowledge to real battles.
In gratitude, Roxanne handed Cain the Stone Badge.
