Chapter 167: Chapter 167: My Guiding Light

Among the memories that had tormented Zenith’s heart from a very young age, the incident in the mountain shrine was the first one that transformed the innocent child inside him in the path of becoming a ruthless devil.

However, while growing up, those scarred memories from the past were one of the reasons why Zenith sought sleeping pills, drugs, or multiple sex partners just to get rid of the insomnia that was followed by his dark past. However, after turning into an addict for sleeping pills, a few parts of his memories were distorted and had completely slipped out of his mind.

The main reason Zenith was hesitant to follow Kylian to the temple was because this place stood as the symbol of his first sin, which he tended to avoid visiting on their first date. It was one of the events from his tainted past which he didn’t want to reminisce about, at least not today.

The funeral meeting for Zorina from that day was never held again and thus, Zenith never stepped foot inside this temple either to avoid facing the sinful deed he had committed there as a child.

But as a result of his distorted memories from the overdose of drugs and sleeping pills, he had completely forgotten about his previous encounter with that divine monk. But now, coming back to the same shrine after a long gap of 13 years as a circle of life, when his gentle hands patted his head, miraculously that memory he had forgotten from the past became lucid to him!

A gush of mixed emotions surged inside Zenith, making his chest feel stifled with a tangible pain. He couldn’t stop himself from tearing up, feeling overwhelmed with emotions when his words vividly echoed inside his head.

Upon meeting the serene smile of that monk, before he could squeeze a word out, he tenderly asked Zenith, "I hope, now you’ve recognized me, my child. I apologize for not being able to bring your mother back, but do you remember now what I told you that day? You’re back here again...with the guiding light of your life, right?"

"I...I...am sorry..." Pearl white teardrops streamed down his distressed onyx eyes as Zenith’s voice trembled hard, reliving his kind touch on his head after so many years. He had completely forgotten the existence of this memory until now, but as if his touch had divine spiritual energy that was helping him calm down the palpitations growing in his chest, "I...I did something awful that day...Looking back now, I realize I was wrong...but I was too foolish to apologize—"

"It wasn’t completely your fault, my child. You were broken by the person you had considered as your own."

Before Zenith could finish, the monk calmly addressed those exact words that defined the emotion 7-year-old Zenith had felt standing in this exact same place, after Dolemort’s harsh condemnation had shattered his innocent heart.

At that moment, like any other ordinary child, he was in dire need of the support he had longed for from his father. But only if Dolemort hadn’t cruelly turned his back on him, nor if he had crushed his hopes by making him feel worthless as his son, would Zenith have turned into the twisted ruthless man he had evolved over all these years?

Never.

Painfully sobbing with his jaws gritted hard, the tangible pain growing within his chest strangely found a little solace from that monk’s words, as Zenith lowered his guilt-stricken eyes from him, seeking mercy, "I am sorry...On that day, what I did...in fact, the kind of life I have lived until now, I know...I would never have made my mother proud of me. I failed to become a good son for her...I failed to become...a good person...I failed in everything..."

"Don’t be so hard on yourself, my child." However, slowly lifting his hand down from his head to pat Zenith on his shoulder, the monk retained a tender smile in his big eyes when he consoled him, saying the words he deliberately needed to hear, "Right now...you’re back here with the one your mother had sent for you, my child.

"I know you might not be able to understand my words completely now, but the first day when I saw you as a child, I knew everything. Right now, you should consider it as a blessing from your mother. She couldn’t stay with you here for long, but if she hadn’t been watching you from afar or if she hadn’t always unconditionally loved you, do you think you would have ever found this person?"

"ZENITH!?"

Before Zenith could answer, Kylian’s loud concerned voice flinched him hard, making him avert his gaze towards the direction behind the monk. Standing at the entrance arch for a few seconds, Kylian came back running towards him, panting hard as if he preferred to return for Zenith, instead of praying to the Holy Mother on his own.

His ocean eyes were rolled in concern and reaching close, Kylian held Zenith’s face by both his palms, asking him keenly, "W-Why are you crying? Did I make you very sad by bringing you here? I am sorry, I didn’t know you’d be so hurt, Zenith. Please forgive me. Let’s go back now...we won’t have to go—"

But before he could finish his anxious mumble, Zenith pulled Kylian into a tight embrace, with a broad smile that curved on his tear-soaked face. As much as Kylian panicked inside to watch Zenith sobbing like that, but holding him in his arms, Zenith felt as if all the discomfort and uneasiness within his heart magically disappeared, making him feel lighter inside as if he had attained nirvana.

Burying his tearful face on his shoulder, Zenith smiled with a drop of tear streaming down his cheeks when he uttered in a hoarse murmur, "Thank you...for being my guiding light, Kylian. And...thank you for bringing me back here. Kyle, I love you so much...and you’ll be the only one I love until I breathe my last."

Though Kylian had heard his confession a few times before, but strangely enough, this time his low husky voice sounded very sincere, as if Zenith was truly expressing his heartfelt gratitude. Even though Kylian was still confused to saw him crying before, he gently patted on his shoulder to comfort him, "Okay...now...are you able to calm down?"

"Yes." After a brief anticipating silence, when Zenith parted his body away from him, Kylian wiped his tears through the sleeves of his shirt, making sure he wouldn’t leave any stain of glum on him.

"Why were you being a crybaby all of a sudden? Do you know how worried I was to leave you here and go inside alone? I was wondering if you were uncomfortable and coming back here, I saw you crying like a child! You really do know how to freak me out, huh?"

Hearing Kylian’s gentle soft whining as he was wiping his tears, the monk held a warm smile on his face, watching Zenith’s radiant smile shimmering on his face now, without any trace of despair.

The sight of those two people deeply connected by the thread of love made him wonder on his own, especially gazing at Kylian, ’This is the hug that child needed on that day. Perhaps, you don’t know...how much you are able to shape his life for the better...You have saved him by becoming the light of his life, my child. Well done.’

"I am sorry for scaring you." After he was done wiping his swollen teary eyes, Zenith grabbed Kylian by his palm and placed a soft kiss, with a genial smile across his lips, "But did you come back here to fetch me?"

"Yes...I...wanted us to go together and pray." Scratching the nape of his neck while holding a flustered expression, Kylian murmured, "So...I couldn’t bear the thought of praying alone...because...I was kinda missing you..."

"Pfft." With a soft smirk, Zenith leaned his head close before whispering into him as he suddenly wanted to tease Kylian, "Be honest, I have also got you completely hooked on me, right babe?"

"Oi, behave yourself before the monk at least!"

With a grumpy scold, when Kylian hissed at him, bearing a tender smile on his face, Zenith grabbed his hand and turned around towards the monk, as he radiantly addressed, "Even though I still might not be fully gain my belief in Holy Mother, I want to go and pray together with my babe. May we go in, Sir?"

"Of course. I will be happy to guide you both inside, my children. Follow me."

Nodding with a jovial grin on his face, when the monk stepped ahead, walking behind him while climbing the stairs, Kylian whispered to Zenith in a flustered voice, "I am glad that we are going to pray together. But, can you just not call me babe before him? It’s embarassing!"

"You’re my babe, and I can scream before the whole world that you’re mine." Zenith calmly answered him but watching Kylian turned flushed red from his answer, he intended to tease him a little more, "Do you know that I am your written destiny?"

"Huh?" Not realizing the depth of his words, Kylian rather gave a light-hearted snort when he commented, "Did you take any drugs or something?"

"I am serious! Aren’t you believing me, babe?"

"Okay, stop calling me babe here—"

"BABYYY!!"

"I said stop it, okay?"
