[FLASHBACK: 14 YEARS AGO, REMSWORTH MANSION]

Lorelia’s cold scowl froze the head butler from immense fear, as he realized the fatal mistake Barnes had committed already before he arrived here. He rolled his anxious gaze down on him but saw Barnes was only gawking at Aiden, hugging his unconscious body tighter, compressing the ice on his scars with tears streaming down his eyes.

Just from one glance, Rick understood Barnes’s heart was breaking to watch his beloved Aiden in such pain...and it was natural to feel rage towards the person who hurt their loved ones.

But Lorelia wasn’t a normal woman in the first place. Indeed, whatever Barnes told her was the exact truth about her existence, but right now, Rick couldn’t afford to take any more risk.

"I-I am terribly sorry for his rude words, Madam. Of course not, the servants here never thought ill of you, Madam...not even for a day. But still, I will make sure to give him a good scolding for his mistake, so please allow me to take him from here—"

"How dare you think I would let him leave alive after hearing his disgusting thoughts about me?" But cutting in between the butler’s words, Lorelia widened her scary sneer, while directing her gaze back on Barnes, "I will kill this miserable brat right at this instant.

"Firstly, he committed an unforgivable mistake by barging inside my room when I was teaching my ’own’ son a lesson. Also, he dared to touch my son with his filthy hands right in front of me...so...how audacious of you to think I would let this slide?"

Lorelia’s voice sounded extremely serious, and each of her words winced Barnes from fear as he couldn’t help but hug Aiden tighter. His scars were badly bleeding and he was awestruck to witness such a crazy woman who was worried about her damn ego, more than the life of her own son!

Gritting her jaws with his remorseful gaze towards Aiden’s unconscious pale face, Barnes couldn’t help but cuss at himself, ’I am sorry, Master Aiden...It’s all my fault that you got hurt like this...It’s my fault that I asked you to come here...I should’ve never done that... I know you’re in a lot of pain right now but...Please...Please stay strong...’

Her blatant declaration ran the butler’s blood cold as he went down on his knees, to plead before Lorelia with a trembling low voice, "M-Madam...please...h-he’s just a small boy...H-He has done a grave sin...I will make sure to p-punish him thoroughly...but please don’t take away his life..."

"It’s no use wasting your time and energy, Rick. First, I will punish this damn punk with my own methods, and then...I will thoroughly deal with Aiden for annoying me. There’s no way I would just be satisfied by throwing a bowl of hot water on him. So what if his skin has burnt...Aiden won’t die just from this little punishment."

Her cold and scary rumble winced Barnes hard, as lifting his tearful eyes at her, he realized she was just a heartless woman who enjoyed watching others in agony. But to think his dear Aiden would have to endure a lot worse punishment after this broke his heart, as Barnes couldn’t help but beg before her.

"M-Madam...I-I am sorry for...r-raising my voice at you before. I-I know...I have done something unforgivable...b-but you can do whatever you like to me. You can give me a-any punishment...you can even kill me now to satisfy y-your anger...B-But please...d-don’t hurt Master Aiden anymore... While begging for his life, Barnes broke down into inconsolable tears, pausing everyone inside the room for a few seconds with his sincere affection for Aiden. When the head butler retrieved his senses, he lashed out at Barnes, trying to stop him from walking into the deadly trap by himself.

"J-Just shut up, Barnes! Let the adults talk...don’t you intervene—"

"Really?"

But before his words could finish, Lorelia’s loud grunt flinched everyone, including Barnes who lifted his teary orbs above to see her dark eyes were glaring at him like an eyes of a vicious predator. She retained a scary smirk on her lips, while asking him once again, "Really? Are you sure...I can give you any punishment as I like? I might even kill you tonight...so are you sure you won’t regret your offer?"

Just gazing deep into her eyes, Barnes clearly realized his end of bargain had somehow convinced her a little to let out her vicious urge on him, leaving aside Aiden. He gritted his jaws, enduring his crazily fast pounding heartbeat from dread and answered her in a cold voice, "I won’t regret it, M-Madam. Y-You can do anything to me...I-I don’t mind to give up my life if it means y-you won’t hurt Master Aiden anymore..."

"Pfft! What a deep bond you’ve formed with my son, the heir of the Remsworth family." His words curved her wicked sneer wide when she crossed her arms, walking a step towards Barnes.

Her dark eyes didn’t avert from his small fearful eyes looking at her when she mentioned, "But pests like you should know their place before getting chummy with the next Master of this mansion. Do you have any idea how much I feel offended to watch you touching my son with your dirty hands?

"But anyways, I accept your deal. I won’t hurt him anymore today...but in return, you will face the punishment I choose. Are you prepared?"

"Y-Yes..."

Barnes mumbled in a low, broken voice while wrapping his arms tighter around Aiden as if a part of his sharp instincts was telling him, that this would be probably the last time he would get to hold Aiden close to him like this.

"B-Barnes! Damn, this brat...M-Madam, please...—"

"I had enough of your nonsense, Rick." Coldly shuffling her gaze towards the head butler as she cut in between his words, her face turned darker from angst when she commanded.

"Arrange the family doctor for Aiden and take him to his room now. But before leaving, hurry up and bring me my horsewhip. Right now!"
