Rebirth: CEO's Sweetheart Reaches the Life Pinnacle!-Chapter 61 - 59 Drunkenness
Chapter 61: Chapter 59 Drunkenness
Qingming Festival, a day for tomb sweeping, Leng Mochen accompanied Li Si to the North City Cemetery. The weather was beautiful today, with bright sunshine and a gentle breeze, as if softly whispering.
"Dad, this is Brother Leng. I encountered some bad people, and he saved me!" Li Si spoke to the photograph of her father, smiling faintly from the gravestone, recounting what had happened recently.
Leng Mochen stood silently to the side, listening to her account. In his heart, he said, "Uncle, please rest assured. Li Si is doing well now, and she’ll only get better! I will take good care of this girl!"
On the way back from the cemetery, Li Si didn’t have much of an appetite. Leng Mochen took her to a porridge shop where they had some simple congee.
As they entered the villa complex and were nearing home, Leng Mochen suddenly slammed on the brakes, stopping by the roadside.
Fortunately, Li Si was wearing a seatbelt and avoided hitting her head, but she still got startled. "What’s wrong, Brother Leng?" she asked, surprised.
"It’s nothing. Let’s just wait here for a bit," Leng Mochen replied, his expression odd as he kept his eyes fixed on the red sports car parked in front of Villa No. 2.
Li Si nodded and also looked out the car window.
A man and a woman stepped out of the red sports car. They seemed young, in their early twenties. The woman was quite beautiful, and both were dressed stylishly and impeccably.
The two held hands intimately as they walked up to press the doorbell. Shortly after, a middle-aged woman dressed as a housekeeper appeared and invited them inside.
Although the distance was a bit far, Li Si couldn’t shake the feeling that the man seemed familiar to her. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall where she had seen him before. How strange!
Turning her head back, Li Si caught a flicker of shock and pain in Leng Mochen’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared.
"Girl, let’s go have some drinks," he suddenly suggested.
"Brother Leng, are you sure your body can handle drinking?" Li Si asked. In truth, she also wanted a drink; her mood hadn’t been great today. Maybe unhappy people just tend to numb themselves with alcohol.
"Your magical spring water has done wonders. I’m fully recovered now. A bit of alcohol won’t be a problem!" Leng Mochen said. The man and woman he had just seen were, in fact, his half-brother and that brother’s girlfriend from his past life as Lu Zhenghang.
But what was odd was that this was nine years ago. Qin Xin had told him she grew up abroad as an ABC and only came to China after meeting him overseas. During this period, it should have been impossible for her to meet his brother! Had she been lying to him even back then?
After waking up a little over six months ago and becoming Leng Mochen, he secretly investigated the Lu Family in North City. Strangely, Lu Zhenghang did exist but had died in a car accident at age 25.
So what exactly were the 38 years of life memories he possessed as Lu Zhenghang? Just a fleeting dream?
In the bar, two people lost in their own thoughts drank in silence. Li Si paced herself, sipping slowly since she didn’t have much tolerance for alcohol.
Leng Mochen, on the other hand, seemed intent on drowning himself. Memories of his time with Qin Xin cycled through his mind. As he drank more, he began to hallucinate that Qin Xin was walking toward him, asking why he was drinking so much.
He desperately wanted to ask her why she had lied to him, why she had been with Lu Tianming.
"Qin Xin! Qin Xin! Don’t go!" Leng Mochen sat up abruptly, his eyes opening in a daze to look around. Li Si was sitting by his bedside, her face full of worry. He realized he was gripping her hand tightly and quickly let go, noticing the red marks on her pale skin.
"I’m sorry, girl, are you hurt?" Leng Mochen ran a frustrated hand through his hair.
"I’m fine, Brother Leng. But you seemed to have a nightmare! Back at the bar, you drank too much. I didn’t dare drive, so I left the car there and called a cab to get us back. Thankfully, the driver was kind enough to help me get you inside!" Li Si recounted nervously, massaging her reddened hand. For some reason, a faint ache stirred in her heart.
"I drank until I blacked out. I can’t remember a thing! Guess I won’t be drinking again anytime soon," Leng Mochen said, pressing his fingers to his throbbing temples.
"You’ve just recovered from a serious illness, and this is how you treat yourself? Wait here!" Li Si stood up and headed to the kitchen, returning with a cup of spring water from her spatial pocket.
"Drink it!" she said, her tone carrying a trace of irritation.
"What time is it now? Hmm, it’s already past 1 a.m. Might as well stay the night. You can sleep upstairs on the second floor. I’ll sleep right here tonight," Leng Mochen said after glancing at his watch and downing the water in one gulp.
"Alright, that works. This way, I can have Sister Tao’s breakfast tomorrow morning! I’m off to bed then. Goodnight, Brother Leng!" said Li Si, referring to the hired housekeeper who only came during the day to cook and clean.
"Goodnight, girl." Leng Mochen watched as Li Si left the room and closed the door behind her, leaning back against the bedhead with his eyes closed, lost in thought for a long time.
Upstairs, Li Si finished her shower and lay on her bed, feeling refreshed, yet sleep continued to elude her.
"Qin Xin?" Li Si pondered the name Leng Mochen had been calling out in his sleep. Who was she? Could she be his girlfriend or someone similar? A faint curiosity lingered in her mind.
She reached under her pillow for her phone but found no new messages or missed calls. Yin Xian still hadn’t arrived in North City. Perhaps his trip had been delayed by the flurry of activities leading up to graduation.
In Beijing, at the Yin Family residence, Mrs. Yin and a young woman were chatting warmly in the living room.
Yin Xian descended the staircase and froze in shock when he saw her. After a long pause, he finally spoke, "Weiwei!! When did you come back?"
"Yesterday! I’ve finished my studies abroad and won’t be leaving again. Brother Xian, how have you been these past few years? I missed you so much! Did you miss me?" the young woman responded tenderly, bringing a delighted smile to Mrs. Yin’s face as she made an excuse to leave, giving the two a private moment to talk after years apart. freeweɓnovel.cøm
"Brother Xian! Weiwei is back!" Ye Duowei exclaimed as she threw her arms around Yin Xian.
Still in a daze, Yin Xian couldn’t process what was happening. His eyes held confusion. "Weiwei, what are you doing? Didn’t we already break up?"
"Brother Xian, I said that back then out of anger. It doesn’t count. I wanted to return earlier, but I had to finish my studies first. I thought I’d come back only after completing everything! You promised me you would wait for me, remember? I haven’t forgotten!"
Ye Duowei buried her face into Yin Xian’s chest, inhaling the familiar scent of freshly cut grass. This scent she had missed for so long. Brother Xian, I’m not letting go this time.
"Weiwei, stop this! Please listen to me, okay?" Yin Xian tried to gently push her away, but she wouldn’t let go.
"It’s fine, Brother Xian. Say what you need to; I’m listening. Your heart is beating so fast! Are you excited to see me?"
Yin Xian felt a profound sense of helplessness. So much had changed over these past few years. Once, he had loved this version of Weiwei with all his heart. But now, he found himself drawn to the lighthearted joy he felt around Li Si.
At some point without realizing it, Li Si had slowly crept into his heart. Thoughts of her would surface unbidden.
"Weiwei, we’ve both grown up. You’ve been gone for years, and I’m about to graduate and start my career," Yin Xian said, pulling Ye Duowei to sit on the sofa for a conversation.
