Chapter 184: Chapter 184 There’s a Snake

“It’s okay, it’s okay!” Xuexue kept patting his back to comfort him, and slowly, Big Bull finally calmed down.

“Wife, you scared me to death, I won’t dare dig around carelessly anymore,” said Big Bull, letting go of Xuexue with a fearful look on his face, clearly still shaken up.

“Digging in the stream is fine as long as you don’t dig on the banks,” she replied.

“Wife, why are there snakes? I’m terrified of those things. They can bite you to death,” whined Big Bull, his face sullen, looking all hunched and indicating that he now didn’t even dare to dig for loaches anymore—wasn’t it terrifying? Digging for loaches and actually uncovering a snake.

“Who told you to dig randomly? Those holes on the banks are usually mouse or snake holes. Luckily the snake you found was hibernating, so it didn’t get aggressive. Otherwise, it would have surely bitten you,” Xuexue said irritably. She had also been scared by Big Bull a moment ago—damn it, that was a venomous snake.

Big Bull, still not over the shock, dared not touch the loaches anymore. He sat on the side, unusually quiet, staring blankly at Xuexue, lost in thought.

Xuexue had no choice but to dig by herself. The soil here was fertile and there were plenty of loaches, so it didn’t take long before she had filled up two buckets.

Seeing that no one was around, Xuexue put one bucket of loaches into her space. With only one bucket left, she carried it in her hand; you had to keep some visible to avoid suspicion, to show that she had actually gone out to dig for loaches.

Back home, Big Bull was still wooden-faced and blank-eyed, showing no expression, whereas usually, he would follow Xuexue around, asking all sorts of questions.

Madam Xie found it strange and quietly pulled Xuexue aside to ask, “Xuexue, what’s wrong with Big Bull? He seems down. Did you bully him?”

“Who bullied him?” retorted Xuexue irritably. Her mother was clearly biased.

“Isn’t it usually you who bullies him most of the time?” said Madam Xie plainly, as she didn’t tend to beat around the bush.

“This… uh… cough cough…” Xuexue was caught off guard. Honestly, it seemed like that was true, so she simply replied, “No one bullied him. He just got a bit scared, that’s all. He’ll be fine once he snaps out of it!”

Xuexue then recounted the whole incident of Big Bull digging up a snake instead of loaches.

Madam Xie also got a start, goosebumps all over, and said, “Good heavens! That’s too terrifying. Big Bull is such an idiot, digging in a hole on the bank for loaches. It’s no wonder he’s that shaken. If it were me, I’d go mad.”

“That’s because you’re a little woman. It’s different for Big Bull; he’s a full-grown man,” Xuexue replied, raising her voice on purpose, then turned her head and threw a teasing question at him, “Big Bull, you weren’t really scared by just a small snake, were you?”

Big Bull just glanced at her numbly without a word.

“Ow! You little brat, when did your mouth get so sharp, always rubbing salt in people’s wounds?” Madam Xie couldn’t help but scold her teasingly.

Xuexue poured the loaches into a basin to wash them clean, preparing to gut and clean them thoroughly for drying in a pot later that evening.

Madam Xie picked up a knife as well to help with the loaches. Taking the opportunity when Xuexue wasn’t paying attention, she took out another bucket of loaches from the space.

They were busy for a long time, but Mo Yaner didn’t show up. Xuexue, feeling curious, asked Madam Xie, “Mother, where’s big sister?”

“She’s sleeping inside!”

“What time is it now? She’s sleeping?”

“She was tired. She spent the whole night at the Mo family without any sleep. Let her rest.”
