Chapter 57 - I'll be waiting for you Jazmine

Amelia looked at the time. It was already 9 pm. Her manager had started calling her. She was supposed to be at the airport by 8:30 pm. After much contemplation, she had to block him. She couldn't afford to attend his call. Her Jazmine had warned her a lot that her grandfather was a very suspicious man.

Damn you, Jazmine! Where are you? You promised to come back before 8 pm. I'm never going to trust your words again!

Amelia had already sent Jazmine Harrison more than twenty messages, half of them consisted of exquisite curses, but there was no reply from her side. Jazmine had decided to send another text when she heard the sound of footsteps coming from outside. She quickly put down her phone and pretended to be asleep.

Dominic Tang opened the door to his granddaughter's room and glanced around. He was a little surprised to find that Jazmine Harrison was still here. His granddaughter was being very obedient, and it unsettled him for some reason.

"Jazmine, wake up! It's time to take your medicine."

She gave no response. Must be asleep soundly.

"Jazmine?"

When he walked closer to the bed intending to wake her up, he heard a muffled cough.

"Grandfather, I've taken the medicine. I'm feeling tired after taking it. So let me sleep."

"What happened to your voice?" Her voice was strangely squeaky.

"My throat; it hurts. Side effects from the medicine. Nothing to worry about." Amelia coughed some more to make her excuse seem realistic.

"Alright. I'll leave you then."

Amelia internally praised herself. God, she was so good! She fooled Jazmine's grandfather! Haha... She would brag about it for the rest of her life.

Dominic Tang had just walked out when he suddenly stopped. He quickly walked back into the room.

"Why didn't you stop me when I called you Jazmine?"

Silence followed his sudden burst. Amelia was befuddled when the door suddenly opened once again. Before she could think of an excuse, Dominic Tang had already walked to the bed and snatched away the blanket from her.

Mother! She was scared!

...

Jazmine Harrison walked back into the director's room with a preoccupied mind. Now she had to deal with her uncle too? As if the Anderson family members were not enough. Just then, she received a myriad of texts from Amelia.

"Hurry up! Your grandfather caught me!"

"I've to hide to text you! At least reply to me!"

"He says he'll kill me if I don't tell him where you are!"

"He has already sent a man to fetch you!"

"Come and save me. I'm going to cry. Your grandfather is far scarier than my manager!"

When she wouldn't stop texting, Jazmine switched off her phone. She looked at the director who was sitting in his office chair.

"Dr. Chen, have you made up your mind whether to tell me the truth or not?"

"Ms. Harrison, Mr. Crowne wants to talk to you." He pushed forward his phone with ease; not appearing tense at all.

"Who is Mr. Crowne?" she asked, taking the phone in her hands.

"The President of Crowne Corporates."

Jazmine Harrison stared at the director. Was he joking?

Suddenly she recalled Lucian Smith's words. Everything connected. Someone from Hong Kong had been helping them. The most powerful force in Hong Kong had something to do with stopping those scandals — Crowne Corporates. And now they had something to do with the hospital too?

She took the phone into her hands and placed it against her ear somewhat absentmindedly. There was silence, but she could feel the imposing presence from the other end.

"This is the President of Tang Enterprises, Jazmine Harrison from Beijing speaking. Your introduction?"

After a silence, a slightly familiar voice answered from the other side.

"The President of Crowne Corporates from Hong Kong." The man skipped his name.

So it was the president of Crowne Corporates? It would be wrong to say that she hadn't heard about him. He was a famous celebrity. Everyone in the business world would know him. Even though at the moment, she couldn't recall his name, she remembered his other name... Devil. He was a devil in the business world; ruthless in his dealings and merciless to everyone who defied him.

Was it really the great 'Devil' or was the director playing some sort of trick on her to get some time? Jazmine Harrison looked at the phone, told a man to copy the number, and send it to Lucian Smith to verify. She eyed the director suspiciously. But he didn't look nervous at all.

"Are you the one who asked Dr. Chen to misinform me about my ailment?"

"Yes," a simple answer in an icy voice with a hint of amusement. It seemed like the man didn't intend to reveal anything more than that, such as the reason behind it. In case he was really the 'Devil,' Jazmine couldn't force him anyway. She had to play by his rules.

"And you are the one who caused the media to stop releasing the scandals?" Jazmine wasn't sure if it was exactly 'him' behind it. But if it was not him, he had something to do with it indirectly from Lucian Smith's speculations. She wanted to confirm.

To this, there was a slight silence. As if the person was surprised that Jazmine Harrison knew about it.

"Yes," his voice had blatant amusement. Jazmine was surprised. She didn't know why, but her heart picked up its pace.

"May I ask the reasons behind your actions?"

"If you want to know the reasons, you'll have to come to Hong Kong. I'll be waiting for you, Jazmine." And the call ended. Jazmine Harrison was left flabbergasted in more than one way. First, why did he use her first name? And second, the most important thing — now that he spoke a full sentence, she recalled where she had heard this voice before.

She glanced at the director to confirm. Her gaze held reluctance.

"Is there any doctor Crowne in your hospital?"

"Yes," the director lied. He remembered Mr. Crowne's words.

"Can I see him?" Jazmine was suspicious.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Harrison. He is currently in Hong Kong to attend some personal matters."

After giving it a thought, Jazmine discarded the possibility. She realized she was being too unreasonable. How could that crazy doctor be the President of Crowne Corporates? Why would he want to impersonate a doctor? That was too absurd. He was the President of Crowne Corporates. He had no reason to do that. So she gave up the idea of investigating that crazy doctor.

Just at that moment, she received a text from Lucian Smith confirming it was the personal number of the President of Crowne Corporates. Everything was confirmed.
