Reborn as a Hatrack in the Mystical Land-Chapter 79 - 8 Death Mission_2
Chapter 79 - 8 Death Mission_2
The location is the same, the person is the same, but Zack today seems somewhat downhearted, claiming to have invited Yue Jinghua for a drink, yet only he is silently drinking alone.
"What a pity, I had planned to go on this task with you," Zack said after downing two whole barrels of Bitter Malt Wine.
Watching Yue Jinghua leave, Zack silently continued to drink.
"Zack, why didn't you keep her? That girl may not be easy on the eyes, but she's someone you could settle down with," said the bearded Warton who was leading Zack on the next task, walking over.
"The eagle will eventually soar into the sky, and the steed must gallop across the plains, she doesn't belong here," Zack touched his mouth, swallowed the bitterness, and forced a smile: "Uncle, what are you looking at? Her..."
Although Yue Jinghua never mentioned her identity or her past, from her speech and manners, Zack was certain that her background was not simple.
She was like an occasional gust of wind that soared over the Tak Desert, capable of circling and lingering, but never staying put.
After the wind passed, the sand silently waited in place.
The wind howled across the desert, sending gust after gust against the sandy dunes.
As long as she reached the location of the Four Directions Xuan Array, Yue Jinghua could return to Polo City.
After saying goodbye to Zack and his sister, Yue Jinghua took one final look back at Shaba Town before leaving.
At the other end of the town, towards the Tak Desert, a faint red hue in the sky, like a suddenly ignited piece of charcoal.
Her extensive knowledge of geography and climate from her previous life made her realize that deep within the Tak Desert, a great storm was approaching.
Thinking of the caravan Zack was escorting, they should have entered the Tak Gobi by now.
"Uncle Warton who is leading Zack on this task is an experienced old mercenary, he should have been prepared for the storm," thought Yue Jinghua as she reassured herself, while observing the changing skies above the Tak Gobi. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"Indecision leads to chaos," Yue Jinghua mocked herself and continued walking forward.
In the vast expanse of the Gobi desert, the relentless sandstorm seems to have blown for centuries, never knowing rest.
A few dots sized people formed a line; that was a group of mercenaries and a team of caravan camels forming a desert squad.
After leaving Shaba Town, Zack and the others followed Mercenary Avenue into the depths of the Gobi.
The deeper into the Tak Desert they went, the already sparse green vegetation gradually disappeared, and signs of desertification appeared on the rocky beaches.
Heat waves passed through the ground, drying the sweat flowing from their bodies, leaving a crust of salt that looked like flakes on their skin.
"What damned weather this is, it's already autumn, and it's still hot like a blazing furnace," grumbled a young mercenary participating in the mission with Zack and the others.
The old mercenary Uncle Warton raised his head, a trace of worry fleeting across his brow, not so easily noticed.
He looked up at the reddened sky, that abnormally red expanse, like a fierce beast opening its jaws, gradually engulfing the entire Gobi. Even the wind of the desert slowly stopped its howling.
"Something's not right, everyone stay alert," Warton warned loudly.
"Uncle Warton, there's no road ahead," not long after Warton issued the warning, the path on Mercenary Avenue ahead of them disappeared.
Before them lay a desolate Gobi strewn with rocks, giving no sense of direction. Looking across, there was no peak in sight.
"Why is there a mountain? I remember the Tak Gobi was a plain, there weren't any mountains," the caravan leader stopped the camel procession.
"Su Luo, go take a look," Warton pointed to a nimble young mercenary in the team and ordered him to climb up the Gobi mountain and check.
The young mercenary headed towards the mountain. But unnoticed by everyone, right after the young mercenary had left, a slit appeared in the sky and then vanished rapidly, like a clamshell that suddenly opens and then snaps shut.
Time, like the sands in an hourglass, slipped away never to return, and the young mercenary did not come back.
Uncle Warton started to grow uneasy, "Let's all go up."
As the caravan and the remaining four mercenaries ascended, the mountain slopes became increasingly steep, and the oppressive heat gradually dissipated.
The barren desert slowly turned greener.
At the end of desolation was an otherworldly paradise.
Paradise Birds with trailing rainbow feathers circled in the sky, lush peonies and peonies flowered everywhere, white jade fountains sprayed out nectar-like liquors, golden stairs shone brightly, and the colonnades were carved from ivory.
In the direction of the setting sun, amidst a magnificence of light, appeared a Sun Palace wrapped in the glow of the sun.
"It's the Sun Temple, the legendary temple," the businessmen of the caravan hopped off their camels and ran towards the palace, the mercenaries couldn't help but follow.
Zack was stunned by this sight. The Sun Temple, according to legend, was a palace of innumerable treasures and limitless wealth. It was said that thousands of years ago, before death and desolation swept across this continent, there was a powerful kingdom on the desert.
But overnight, the kingdom vanished without a trace. The legendary temple was also reduced to ruins.
Such tales are almost something every child in Sabah Town has heard from their parents.
Listening to the cheers of his comrades ahead, a thought flickered through Zack's mind, perhaps if he too possessed all this, he might stand shoulder to shoulder with her.
Zack took a step forward, suddenly, he felt a light trembling on his back.
It was the Great Sword left by his father, a thought crossed Zack's mind.
He took the Great Sword off his shoulder and unwrapped the white cloth around it.
On the blade, covered in rust as if with thick paint, a change took place. The rust came to life, like numerous capillaries wrapped around a heart, and the sword blade emitted a heavy breathing sound.
Waves of chant-like hums resonated from the blade as if sung by a demon.
Upon hearing the chant, Zack felt a thunderous rumble in his head, as if struck by lightning, and his mind suddenly cleared.
When he looked up again at the temple ahead, Zack felt all the vigor in his body rush into his mind.
